Browns signed Georgia DT Trenton Thompson.
Thompson (6’3/288) was a surprise entrant into the draft after struggling with a right MCL injury for most of his junior year, causing his production to dip from 9.5 tackles for loss and five sacks as a sophomore to 3.5 TFLs and no sacks in 2017. Thompson showed he was back to full health in Indy, registering top-ten SPARQ results among defensive linemen at the Combine. A five-star high school recruit who was just hitting his stride pre-injury, Thompson is an exciting gap-shooter prospect for a three-technique role. May 2 - 8:15 PM

Georgia DT Trenton Thompson ran the 40-yard dash in 5.06 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

In terms of Thompson's on-field drill work outside of the 40-yard dash, the 6-foot-4, 288-pounder posted a vertical jump of 32.5 inches, a broad jump of 111 inches and a 20-yard shuttle of 4.56 seconds. Nothing particularly jumps out in those marks and we're actually more interested to see find out how he checked out medically. He sustained several notable injuries while at Georgia, most seriously one which necessitated shoulder surgery after the close of the 2016 season. If he checks out relatively clean, he's a probable selection for the first half of Day 3 come the draft. Day 2 is not completely outside the realm of possibility should a team fall in love with the Bulldogs defensive tackle.

Georgia junior DT Trenton Thompson will forego his final season of eligibility to enter the 2018 NFL Draft.

A bummer for Georgia, as Thompson had hinted in early December that he might be returning to school for the 2018 season. No dice, though, no dice. The 6-foot-4, 307-pounder registered 38 tackles (3.5 for loss) during the past season while fighting through knee issues. He's a fast, deceptively agile lineman. While Thompson did not register a sack in 2017, he posted five of them for the previous campaign and has shown the ability to be a positive contributor as a pass-rusher during his career with the Dawgs. He also projects to be scheme versatile and could fit in either a 3-4 or 4-3 setup. Walter Football's Charlie Campbell stamps Thompson with a Day 2 (Rds. 2-3) grade.

Georgia junior DT Trenton Thompson (knee) hinted that he will return to school for his senior season.

While this is far from scientific evidence, Thornton posted on his instagram that he was "looking ahead" while including hashtags #UGA19 and #Seniorsoon. The six-foot-four, 307-pound defensive lineman has battled knee issues for most of 2017, but had one of his best games of the season against Georgia Tech. A healthy return would be a major boon for the Bulldogs' defense in 2018.

Georgia HC Kirby Smart said that junior DT Trenton Thompson (knee) "look[ed] quick out there" during Tuesday's practice.

"He hasn’t taken a step back so that’s good," Smart said. Thompson has missed Georgia's past two games with the knee injury, which he sustained in a win over Vanderbilt at September's end. He rested up during the bye week and is tracking toward playing against Florida on Saturday assuming a clean remainder of the practice week.

Georgia junior DT Trenton Thompson (knee) practiced on Tuesday.

Thompson (6'4/307) has missed each of Georgia's last two games due to a knee injury suffered against Vanderbilt at the end of September. The Bulldogs are off on bye this week, giving the junior plenty of time to mend before he and his crew take on Florida on October 28. His playing-status for that contest will be determined closer to that kickoff.

Georgia junior DT Trenton Thompson (knee) did not practice on Tuesday.

Thompson has been nursing a knee injury sustained against Tennessee two games ago. He did not play in Saturday's win over Vanderbilt. While Bulldogs HC Kirby Smart said that the 6-foot-4, 307-pounder was "able to do a little bit [on Tuesday]," the junior defensive lineman remains a serious question mark for this weekend's upcoming tilt against Missouri.

Georgia junior DT Trenton Thompson (knee)is out for Saturday's game against Vanderbilt.

Thompson sprained the knee against Tennessee last week. It's a big loss for the Bulldogs, as Thompson was a preseason All-SEC player who is considered one of the best run-stuffers in the 2017 NFL Draft class.

Pro Football Focus' Steve Palazzolo likens Georgia junior DT Trenton Thompson to Seattle Seahawks DT Jarran Reed.

Reed cashed in on his ability to stop the run in getting selected in the second round by the Seattle Seahawks in 2016. Thompson has an "eerily similar on-field profile," according to Palazzolo, in that he can "both disrupt and finish." Thompson had 56 tackles, 9.5 TFL, five sacks and a pair of passes defended last year. "Neither Reed nor Thompson is known for their pass-rush skills, and Thompson will likely have to take a step forward in that department in order to move up draft boards," Palazzolo wrote. "But both players show elite run defending skills and that's what makes Thompson an intriguing prospect as he kicks off his junior season."

SEC Country's Shehan Jeyarajah writes that "2017 is the year [Georgia junior DT Trenton Thompson] makes the leap to superstar."

An uneventful summer would be helpful for Thompson -- he has been rehabbing from what was deemed as a "significant" health issue this offseason after undergoing shoulder surgery. This past season, the junior lineman registered 56 tackles (9.5 for loss), five sacks and a pair of passes defended. His status should probably be monitored heading into August camp, but as of now, Thompson is expected to enter as a healthy participant.

Georgia junior DT Trenton Thompson has returned to the team and is training.

This is big news. Thompson withdrew from school over the winter for the spring semester to deal with what was called a "significant" medical issue. He reportedly could be back in classes in May. His high school coach Octavia Jones said Thompson has lost weight and looks "more like a defensive end than a defensive tackle." Thompson was listed at 6-foot-4 and 309 pounds last season and now is, according the Jones, "265 or 270. He still has his muscles; he’s just not as thick." Thompson reportedly had shoulder surgery in January and has been dealing with high blood pressure as a result of stress. Thompson, the nation’s consensus No. 1 recruit in the 2015 cycle, led the team with 9.5 TFL last year.

Thompson was, according to the Associated Press, "behaving incoherently, and appeared to be experiencing some type of unknown medical problem." The undisclosed medical issue led him to be hospitalized recently for an extended stay. Thompson led the team with 9.5 TFL last year.

According to ESPN's Edward Aschoff, Georgia sophomore DT Trenton Thompson "was a monster" in spring practices.

Incoming defensive whiz kids Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker saw three starting linebackers leave, including stars Leonard Floyd and Jordan Jenkins, but the returning talent is stellar, led by Thompson. Thompson was the No. 3 overall recruit in the nation in the last cycle, per ESPN. Though he underwhelmed as a freshman, Aschoff wrote that Thompson "should be a force" and a "double-team machine."

NFL Media ranks Georgia true freshman DT Trenton Thompson as the No. 13 impact freshmen in the nation.

"Physically, he should be able to step in right away and play, and his ability to get upfield is matched by few at his position. [Thompson will] be a big weapon on third down for defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt," wrote College Football 24/7 writer Bryan Fischer. Thompson was the No. 3 player in the ESPN 300. "This is an explosive player who comes off the ball with an impressive initial burst to disrupt," reads his ESPN scouting report. "Possesses very good down the line speed and effort to make backside plays. Displays good upper and lower body strength to hold point and also penetrate and jolt blockers back."
