ESPN's Mel Kiper ranks Alabama senior RB Damien Harris as his top running back in the 2019 draft.
Harris comes in ahead of Stanford's Bryce Love and Memphis's Darrell Henderson. This is not the strong croup of tailbacks that we've seen in the last two years, and Kiper doesn't have anyone at the position listed in his top 25. Harris ran for 771 yards on 126 carries in 2018, but the 5-foot-11, 215-pound back did average over six yards a carry while scoring seven touchdowns. It sounds like Kiper expects Harris to come off the board in Day 2. Dec 12 - 7:32 PM

Alabama senior RB Damien Harris (head) has cleared concussion protocol.

Alabama HC Nick Saban told the media Wednesday that he expects Harris to play against Auburn on Saturday. "He cleared, and he practiced yesterday," Saban said. "So, we hope, without setback, he’ll be OK." Harris suffered a "mild concussion" in The Citadel game. Harris won't have to shoulder a huge workload against the Tigers with Najee Harris and Joshua Jacobs around to spell him.

Nov 21 - 12:29 PM

Alabama senior RB Damien Harris (head) wore a non-contact jersey during Tuesday's practice.

Harris was unable to practice at all on Monday due to what HC Nick Saban called a "mild" concussion. Saban expressed optimism over his initial progress off the injury (sustained versus The Citadel on Saturday), though, and it sounds as though he could have a chance to take the field in the Iron Bowl so long as he does not sustain a setback. If Harris can't play against Auburn, Najee Harris and Joshua Jacobs would receive the lion's share of carries.
Nov 20 - 5:34 PM

Alabama senior RB Damien Harris was not able to practice on Monday due to his concussion.

The concussion was described as "mild" by head coach Nick Saban, and Saban also told reporters that the senior tailback was making "really good progress." If he's able to return to practice he'll have a great chance of playing in the Iron Bowl on Saturday, but there's a chance the Crimson Tide will be without their senior tailback until the SEC Championship.
Nov 19 - 2:48 PM

Alabama HC Nick Saban said following Saturday's win over The Citadel that senior RB Damien Harris suffered a "mild concussion."

Harris left Saturday's game during the third quarter, with team trainers taking him back to the locker room after some time in the injury tent. According to Saban, trainers were also checking the senior running back's neck during their evaluation of him. Alabama returns to action Nov. 24 against in-state rival Auburn.
Nov 17 - 3:53 PM

Alabama senior RB Damien Harris (undisclosed) was taken to the locker room during the third quarter of Saturday's game against The Citadel.

Harris took a hard hit on a rushing attempt, prompting his departure from the game. At the time of the senior running back's exit, the Crimson Tide held a comfortable lead on The Citadel. With that being the case, and Alabama having games against Auburn and Georgia left on the schedule, Harris may have seen his last action of the day even if cleared to return.
Nov 17 - 2:39 PM

Alabama HC Nick Saban says senior RB Damien Harris (ankle) will return to practice on Wednesday.

Harris suffered a minor leg injury while dropping 107 yards and a touchdown on LSU on Saturday. Saban said Harris is "doing really well", a good sign for his availability on Saturday against Mississippi State.
Nov 7 - 1:46 PM

Alabama senior RB Damien Harris rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in Saturday's 29-0 win over LSU.

Harris (5'11/215) scored from one yard out with under six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to essentially seal this one. The touchdown run was his sixth of the campaign, with five of those six scores coming over the course of his last four games. He has also turned in 100-yard efforts in two of his last four contests. Up next on the schedule for Harris and the Tide, a showdown with Mississippi State.
Nov 4 - 12:50 AM

Alabama senior RB Damien Harris led the running backs in drills at practice on Monday after he was denied the start against Tennessee on Saturday due to "internal reasons."

Harris (5'11/215) did play in Saturday's blowout win, though he received just three carries for 12 yards (plus a touchdown). This internal issue does not appear like it will be anything that will impact the senior moving forward. Harris has borderline Day 1 talent for the spring -- Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline grades him as a second-rounder -- but has had a mostly quiet season to date. He's topped 65 yards rushing just once. This Alabama offense has a lot of mouths to feed and Harris is but just one cog in the machine.
Oct 23 - 6:11 PM

Following Saturday's win over Tennessee, Alabama HC Nick Saban said that senior RB Damien Harris did not start the game due to "internal reasons."

Not starting put a serious dent in Harris' opportunities in the run game, as he accounted for just 12 yards and a touchdown on three carries. Josh Jacobs (68 yards, two TDs), Brian Robinson Jr. (60 yards) and Najee Harris (50 yards) were the beneficiaries of Harris' misstep, as they finished the game with 12, 13 and nine carries, respectively. Alabama does not return to action until November 3 at LSU, giving the senior running back some time to work his way back into Nick Saban's good graces.
Oct 20 - 8:05 PM

Alabama senior RB Damien Harris rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries in Saturday's 39-10 win over Missouri.

It was the second most carries Harris (5'11/215) has received this season with the Crimson Tide rotating all of their elite running backs into games this season. On his lone touchdown, the senior back had to bounce it all the way outside after running into a brick wall up the middle in order to convert his goal line carry into a score. It was Harris' fourth touchdown of the season, and he'll have a chance to add to the total next week against Tennessee. The running backs might be more involved if Tua Tagovailoa (knee) isn't able to play.
Oct 13 - 10:52 PM

Alabama senior RB Damien Harris carried the ball 15 times for 111 yards and two scores in a 65-31 crushing of Arkansas on Saturday.

The Razorbacks' defense was abhorrent on Saturday, unable to contain the passing or rushing game of the Crimson Tide. The 5-foot-11, 215-pound back was happy to take advantage of it, and found plenty of running room before the game became out of hand in the second half (it wasn't really ever that close). This is Harris's first time over a hundred yards in 2018, but he's averaging close to seven yards a carry, so it's just been a case of Alabama rotating/blowouts that has hurt his stats. Another big game is possible next Saturday against Missouri.
Oct 6 - 3:28 PM

Bama Online's Charlie Potter says that RB Damien Harris (undisclosed) didn't look limited in practice on Monday.

Potter notes that he was watching practice closely, and he didn't look limited while leading the running back group. Harris left Saturday's blowout win against Louisville with an undisclosed injury, and there are reports that it could have been cramping. He should be ready to roll against Arkansas State on Saturday.
Sep 3 - 6:13 PM

Alabama senior RB Damien Harris left Saturday's game against Louisville late in the second quarter due to an undisclosed injury concern.

While the exact nature of the injury has not surfaced, there's speculation on Twitter that this could be a cramping issue for Harris. If that's the case, the senior back figures to be able to return in the second half -- should Alabama even want to put him back in, as they're heading into halftime up 28-0. Najee Harris would likely see the majority of work moving forward should the elder Harris require an extended absence.
Sep 1 - 9:51 PM

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline gave senior RB Damien Harris a second-round grade.

Pauline was surprised by his decision to return to school but said Harris is "a powerful downhill ball carrier with excellent vision, smarts and small area quickness. Though not a truly creative ball carrier he does enough to make incoming defenders miss and always picks up positive yardage when the ball is in his hands." Harris will likely split work with backup Najee Harris. Damien was in a similar role last year and rushed for 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns. Both backs may receive less work this year with the expected switch in quarterbacks to natural-passer Tua Tagovailoa. Harris will have to remain efficient in a time-share in order to keep his draft stock in the top three rounds.
