NC State redshirt senior QB Ryan Finley completed 32-of-44 passes for 409 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's 58-3 victory over East Carolina.
Finley (6'4/212) was taking aim at one of the nation's worst defenses. Instead of using this game as a sort of bye week heading into the bowl, the Wolfpack kept their starters in for almost the entire game and went for the throat from the jump. Perhaps this was HC Dave Doeren's response to fans who were annoyed by last week's close win over UNC. Whatever the case, the Wolfpack head into bowl season at 9-3. After that game, Finley will be participating in the Reese's Senior Bowl. Dec 1 - 3:31 PM

Date:

NC State redshirt senior QB Ryan Finley accepted an invitation to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl.

There will be a lot of talented players playing in Mobile, but Finley (6'4/212) will be as talked about as any of them, if not more. The senior signal-caller is considered among the best quarterbacks in the class, and some believe he has a chance to go in the first round because of his accuracy and touch. Consistency hasn't always been his friend, so scouts will be sure to scrutinize Finley during practices and the game in Mobile. We're excited to see what he can do.
Nov 26 - 4:17 PM

NC State redshirt senior QB Ryan Finley completed 16-of-28 passes for 200 yards and one interception in Saturday's 34-28 overtime win over North Carolina.

This was Finley's worst game since a 34-point loss to Clemson earlier in the year. Luckily the team was able to pull out the win including a five-touchdown effort from RB Reggie Gallaspy II and 206 total rushing yards. A three-year starter at NC State, Finley is currently having his most efficient season with a 67.4 completion rate and averaging 8.37 yards per attempt. Big-name media members were attracted to Finley in many early mocks, but the excitement has since died. He'll finish up the regular season against East Carolina next week.
Nov 24 - 5:19 PM

NFL Draft Scout's Steve Fairchild believes that NC State senior QB Ryan Finley is close to reaching his ceiling.

That's both good and bad. The good news is that Fairchild calls Finley "polished" and cites his ability to "feel for subtle and radical moves to alter launch points." The bad news is this means what you see is what you get, and what you see sometimes, as Fairchild puts it: "Finley has enough size and arm strength to play at the next level, but he does not have the big arm and will have to rely on his ability to throw with anticipation at the next level; he has demonstrated he can make these types of throws." The ability to step up in the pocket and deliver the ball quickly will help, but if other teams feel the same as Fairchild, there are some areas that will definitely cause concern, as well.
Nov 19 - 8:15 PM

NC State redshirt senior QB Ryan Finley completed 26-of-36 passes for 316 yards and four touchdowns in Saturday's 52-10 win over Louisville.

Finley (6'4/212) tore up a poor Louisville team by completing short and intermediate passes to his top targets Kelvin Harmon and Jakobi Meyers. The redshirt senior has been criticized for his lack of arm talent, and in his second to last game, his longest pass went for a whole 35 yards including the yards after catch. With that being said, Finley did throw an accurate, floating 25-yard touchdown pass (video in the link below) to Harmon, and that's what he does best. Finley will travel to North Carolina for his second to last regular season collegiate game before heading to the NFL Draft.

The Draft Network's Joe Marino believes NC State redshirt senior QB Ryan Finley is a "maxed out prospect that can be an NFL backup."

Marino has been extremely confused when seeing Finley mocked in the first round as he believes Finlay is "just too limited physically, his accuracy beyond 10 yards is lacking, his trigger can be slow and he’s going to be 24 in December after 6 seasons in college." Speaking to his lack of physicality, Finley lacks arm strength and was unable to throw a 55-yard hail mary into the end zone in Thursday's loss to Wake Forest. Finley will likely be a late-round pick for a team that likes his short-range accuracy and gaudy collegiate counting stats.
Nov 11 - 11:27 AM

NC State redshirt senior QB Ryan Finley completed 35-of-52 passes for 374 yards with a touchdown and interception while running for a score in a 27-23 loss to Wake Forest on Thursday.

Finley really struggled to start this one, although his wideouts didn't help much; there were several catchable passes that ended up on the grass. He and the offense picked things up as the game progresses, and he showed the accuracy and pocket presence that make him a potential (relatively) early selection this spring. It just wasn't enough, and the Wolfpack are likely no longer in "big bowl" consideration. They'll try to rebound next Saturday against lowly Louisville.
Nov 8 - 11:02 PM

NC State senior QB Ryan Finley completed 21-of-27 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's 47-28 win over Florida State.

Finley (6'4/212) and the Wolfpack snapped a two-game losing streak with their emphatic victory on Saturday. The senior signal-caller tossed touchdowns in each of the final three quarters to help keep NC State out in front. In eight games this season, Finley has thrown for 2,490 yards with a 16/6 TD/INT ratio. He figures to be able to do work against a questionable Wake Forest pass defense in Week 11 (that will be a Thursday kick).
Nov 3 - 8:01 PM

NC State senior QB Ryan Finley completed 26-of-44 passes for 473 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's 51-41 loss to Syracuse.

Finley (6'4/212) played very, very well, but it took a little while for the NC State offense to get on track early on, allowing the Orange a chance to work out to a 24-7 lead after one quarter of play. While the end result was not a palatable one for the Wolfpack, it was nice to see Finley and company come out with a strong collective effort after Clemson stomped all over them last weekend. The senior signal-caller should be able to put up tasty numbers against FSU next weekend.
Oct 27 - 11:51 PM

Draft Analyst's Joe Marino believes NC State senior QB Ryan Finley has traits that are "very alarming when projecting him to the NFL."

Marino labels those issues as "limited arm strength, slow trigger, and ball placement issues beyond 10-yards." Finley had a chance to show what he's made of against Clemson, and really dropped the ball. His draft stock certainly took a hit after this performance. Marino described the outing as one "littered with late decisions, throws without enough juice and misplaced throws." The Wolfpack take on Syracuse next Saturday.
Oct 21 - 10:31 AM

NC State senior QB Ryan Finley completed 21-of-34 passes for 156 yards and two interceptions in Saturday's 41-7 loss to No. 3 Clemson.

NFL scouts aren't going to love what they saw from Finley (6'4/199) in this one. Of course Clemson's defense is no joke, but first-round quarterback prospects should look better than how Finley looked on Saturday. The Athletic's Dane Brugler said, "There is plenty of blame to go around on this NCST offense, but his limitations are clear in this game." His draft stock took a hit today, but he's still on pace for his third straight 3,000 yard season. The Wolfpack will travel to Syracuse next Saturday.
Oct 20 - 7:47 PM

NC State senior QB Ryan Finley completed 25-of-34 passes for 308 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in Saturday's 28-23 victory over Boston College.

Finley didn't have his best game with two interceptions but was very efficient otherwise. His two favorite targets, Kelvin Harmon and Jakobi Meyers, combined for 19 receptions, 227 yards, and two touchdowns. His first touchdown was from four yards out to Meyers and his second was from 34-yards away to Harmon. This final score was misleading as Boston College had a commanding 28-3 lead with just 2:57 left in the third quarter but allowed three straight touchdowns to end the game. After a bye week, Finley and company will have their toughest test to date against Clemson on October 20th.
Oct 6 - 5:08 PM

NC State senior QB Ryan Finley completed 4-of-6 passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns when facing pressure in Saturday's 35-21 victory over Virginia.

Finley's stats under pressure adds up to an impressive 144.2 passer rating. He spread the ball out consistently, finding eight different receivers and had no interceptions. Finley will look to continue his success against Boston College next Saturday.
Sep 30 - 10:54 AM

NC State senior QB Ryan Finley completed 22-of-32 passes for 257 yards and three scores in a 35-21 victory on Saturday over Virginia.

More of the same for Finley, and that's a good thing. The senior slinger found eight different receivers in this one, but his top target was Kelvin Harmon, who caught six passes for 94 yards and a score. He also found Cary Angeline and Emeka Emezie for scores, and he didn't turn the ball over. Finley and the 4-0 Wolfpack will face Boston College on Saturday.
Sep 29 - 3:43 PM

NC State senior QB Ryan Finley is the highest rated quarterback through the first four weeks according to Pro Football Focus.

A little surprising, if only because there are some quarterbacks that are putting up some monster numbers early on. Finley has been excellent, however, with a rating of 93.5 over the first few weeks. PFF currently grades him at 93.5, which is a full point ahead of Alabama star Tua Tagovailoa. Finley (6'4/199) is considered a first-round prospect, and just might be the first signal-caller off the board if he keeps this up.
