FAU redshirt junior QB De'Andre Johnson said that he is still regaining his arm strength after having two blood clots removed from his arm last September.
Johnson (6'0/177) appeared in the 2017 opener versus Navy, but missed the rest of the campaign after he had surgery to remove a pair of blood clots. He's been on the rehab trail ever since. Johnson was able to connect on a few deeper passes during practice last week as he continues to work his way back. "I’m feeling the strength, touch is back, and the confidence is there," he said of his ongoing recovery. He's competing for starting honors with Oklahoma transfer Chris Robison this offseason. FAU redshirt junior QB De'Andre Johnson will not apply for a medical redshirt waiver for his injury-shorted 2017 season.

Johnson -- of LAST CHANCE U fame and formerly of Florida State -- appeared in FAU's season-opener against Navy this past season, but sat out the remainder of the campaign after undergoing surgery to remove two blood clots from his arm. While he will not be applying for a medical redshirt at this time, Johnson could potentially do so down the road. The 6-foot, 177-pounder has recovered from his surgical procedure and is expected to be a full participant in spring practice. He'll be competing with former Oklahoma QB Chris Robison for starting honors this offseason. Robison should be considered the favorite in that competition.

The father of FAU redshirt sophomore QB De'Andre Johnson took to Facebook to write that his son underwent surgery for two blood clots in his arm.

This would be Johnson's "scary medical condition" which Owls HC Lane Kiffin referred to on Monday. Per his father, the 6-foot, 177-pounder underwent surgery last week. There is no current timetable for the redshirt sophomore's return to action. It is possible that he could end up missing the rest of the season.

FAU redshirt sophomore QB De'Andre Johnson was hospitalized with "scary medical condition."

Head coach Lane Kiffin would not elaborate any further. Johnson is obviously out indefinitely, and local media is not certain if it is related to the issue that kept Johnson out of practice for most of the last month. Kiffin said it is too early to know if Johnson returns tot he field this season.

FAU redshirt sophomore QB De'Andre Johnson (undisclosed) was held out of passing drills again during Wednesday’s practice.

Johnson continues to battle with an undisclosed nagging injury that’s bothered him for most of August. Owls HC Lane Kiffin expects Johnson to be ready for the Sept. 1 opener against Navy, and he doesn't anticipate the injury lingering into the season. "I think with tomorrow off, and Saturday off as well, before Sunday (when) we really officially Navy practice the majority of practice, I think he’ll be a lot better," Kiffin said. Johnson remains in a three-man battle for the FAU starting QB gig.

Former FSU redshirt freshman QB De'Andre Johnson will transfer to Florida Atlantic.

Readers, meet Lane Kiffin's first big acquisition. Johnson spent the past two years at East Mississippi Junior College (yes -- the school featured in the popular Netflix documentary "Last Chance U") after getting dismissed by the Seminoles in August 2015. He will enroll at FAU in January. The 6-foot, 170-pound Johnson, a three-star recruit and the No. 2 pro-style JUCO quarterback in the Class of 2017, has three years of eligibility remaining. The Owls had some of the worst QB play that we saw at the FBS level this year. Consider Johnson the early favorite to start for Kiffin's first Owls squad.

I apologize to the lady in the incident, to her family, to my family, to my mother. I know I wasn’t raised that way. If I could do it all over again, I would." The lawyer of dismissed FSU freshman QB De'Andre Johnson says racial slurs precipitated his client's punch that led to his dismissal from school.

The Seminoles booted Johnson off the football team after video surfaced of him punching a woman in the face. Lawyer Jose Baez told NBC News that the woman raised a fist and shouted "racial epithets" at Johnson when he accidentally brushed up against her when approaching the bar. He also said he has witnesses that will back up this story. According to Baez, Johnson "tried to deescalate the situation" but the woman "kneed him in the groin area" and "took another swing before he retaliated." One way or the other, Johnson is a college free agent who is currently in legal hot water.

Johnson was charged with misdemeanor battery after the State Attorney watched the surveillance video. If Johnson continues his playing career, it will likely have to start at the JUCO level.
