South Carolina redshirt senior WR Deebo Samuel accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl.
This will be the last time that we see Samuel wearing a South Carolina helmet, as he's not going to play in the Belk Bowl against Virginia. He's been a dynamic player when healthy, but when is an operative term. Still, he's an explosive athlete, and the 6-foot, 210-pound wideout can make defenders look foolish with the ball in his hands. There's a real chance he goes in the first two rounds if he tests well/gets cleared medically. Dec 10 - 3:10 PM

Date:

South Carolina redshirt senior WR Deebo Samuel will not play in the Belk Bowl against Virginia.

Samuel's time with the Gamecocks is officially over. The senior wideout has flashed tremendous potential -- just look at the 210 yards and three touchdowns he put up against Clemson -- but also has been banged up, so you can't blame him for skipping out on a fairly non-consequential game. If Samuel tests well and gets a clean bill of health, he's likely to go in the first two rounds.
Dec 3 - 5:06 PM

South Carolina redshirt senior WR Deebo Samuel caught four passes for 33 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 28-3 win over Akron.

Easy pickings for Samuel, who brings his season receiving touchdown total to 11. The redshirt senior "caught" a Jake Bentley "pass" on a sweep and he turned it upfield for a 15-yard touchdown for his first score. Samuel then crossed up the slot corner like he was Kyrie Irving for a short five-yard touchdown for his second end zone trip of the day. Samuel will have the South Carolina bowl game before he heads to the NFL Draft.
Dec 1 - 4:06 PM

South Carolina redshirt senior WR Deebo Samuel caught 10 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's 56-35 loss to Clemson.

Both quarterback Jake Bentley and Samuel had career games against a good Clemson defense. For Samuel, it was his first game scoring three touchdowns, his first game going over 200 receiving yards, and just his second game with double digit receptions. It's a great time to have a big game for the redshirt sophomore with just two games remaining (Akron and a bowl game) before he heads to the NFL Draft. Samuel has 849 yards and 9 touchdowns on the year.
Nov 24 - 11:59 PM

South Carolina redshirt senior WR Deebo Samuel registered five receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 49-9 win against Chattanooga.

Samuel has posted back-to-back 100-yard games for the first time in his career, and he has found the end zone in five of the past seven games. He is finishing up his career strong, and he'll look for a third straight 100-yard game at Clemson next Saturday. He missed last season's rivalry game with the Tigers due to injury. However, he has played against the Tigers twice before, and he had five grabs for 104 yards and a score Nov. 28, 2015 in a narrow loss against Clemson in Columbia.
Nov 18 - 1:41 AM

South Carolina redshirt senior WR Deebo Samuel caught four passes for 120 yards in Saturday's 35-31 loss to Florida.

Samuel (6'/202) was unable to find the end zone in this one, but did major damage with his four grabs regardless. In addition to his work as a receiver, the redshirt senior also put up 78 yards on a quartet of kick returns. For the campaign as a whole, now, Samuel has posted a 43-527-5 receiving line across nine games played. He should be able to find room work against Chattanooga next weekend.
Nov 10 - 3:26 PM

South Carolina redshirt senior WR Deebo Samuel caught seven passes for 88 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 26-23 loss to Texas A&M.

Samuel (6'0/202) had his best statistical game of the year, but it was an up-and-down game for him. The redshirt senior was able to haul in a six-yard touchdown grab late in the fourth quarter and made adjustments to catch some inaccurate Jake Bentley passes, but he also made a crucial drop that cost South Carolina points. Samuel hasn't been as good in part to his 2017 leg injury, but he's still on pace to be a 2019 NFL Draft pick. He will look to increase his draft stock against Tennessee on October 27th.
Oct 13 - 7:47 PM

South Carolina redshirt senior WR Deebo Samuel caught four passes for 88 yards with a touchdown in a 37-35 victory on Saturday over Missouri.

Samuel (6'0/202) hasn't had the breakout season many anticipated, but he had a solid game against Missouri; even with Bryan Edwards again being the top target in the victory. His touchdown was an eight-yard score from Michael Scarnecchia that brought the Gamecocks within two at 23-21 in the third, and he also had a big 37-yard catch that set up a score. Samuel will look to build on this next Saturday when South Carolina takes on Texas A&M.
Oct 6 - 5:43 PM

Draft Network's Joe Marino called South Carolina senior WR Deebo Samuel a "nuanced route runner."

Marino notes that the 6-foot, 202-pound Samuel "knows how to separate from coverage while also able to win above-the-rim in contested situations" and additionally writes that the senior wideout is "prolific after the catch." Coming back off a severe leg injury which cut his 2017 season short, Samuel has worked out to a 22-206-2 receiving line. He's also runback four kickoffs for 95 yards. While his statistical output has been somewhat disappointing this season, the same can be said for South Carolina's offense as a whole. At this juncture, Samuel should be viewed as a likely Day 3 selection for the draft.
Oct 5 - 1:32 PM

South Carolina senior WR Deebo Samuel caught two passes for 61 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 24-10 loss to Kentucky.

Samuel (6'0/202) scored a 58-yard touchdown on a broken play that was nearly intercepted. After he caught the pass, he had to beat a couple Kentucky defenders to the corner of the end zone. The Gamecocks just couldn't get him touches tonight, which was disappointing given how little offense South Carolina was producing. The senior weapon will look to get more involved next week against Missouri.
Sep 30 - 12:35 AM

South Carolina senior WR Deebo Samuel caught seven passes for 56 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 49-15 win over Coastal Carolina.

Samuel (6'0/202) made an eight-yard scoring catch in the closing minutes of the third quarter. He also added 45 yards on a pair of kick returns. Samuel was knocked out by a fractured leg three games into the 2017 season, but turned in a strong rehab over the offseason to come out healthy to open the freshly-birthed campaign. He's a fun, dynamic athlete when healthy.
Sep 1 - 3:41 PM

On South Carolina's Week 1 depth chart, senior WR Deebo Samuel is listed as starter without injury qualification.

Samuel (6'0/202) fractured his leg just three games into the 2017 season. He missed the rest of the campaign while in rehabilitation, but this offseason has been a clean one on the health front and all signs have Samuel back to full strength as USC embarks on what's something of an anticipated season. He's a dynamic player when right, one who works as a dangerous cog in the machine both as a receiver and a kick returns ace. During a mostly healthy 2016 season, Samuel logged a 59-783-1 receiving line, rushed for six touchdowns and averaged 26.9 yards on his 16 kick runbacks.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline gives South Carolina senior WR Deebo Samuel a first-round grade heading into the 2019 season.

Not surprisingly, that grade is the top among Gamecocks' players. Pauline calls Samuel a "game breaking" talent, with the ability to make plays in the return game, and his reliable hands with 6-foot, 202-pound size make him a potential top 32 selection. He also notes that there are injury concerns here -- Samuel broke his leg last season -- so he'll have to have a strong season and check out medically if he is going to be selected in the first round.
Aug 19 - 11:00 AM

CBS Sports analyst Will Brinson pegged South Carolina redshirt senior WR Deebo Samuel to the New York Jets with the No. 3 pick in his recent 2019 mock draft.

Brinson likes the Samuel-to-Jets connection due to Gang Green needing to rack up some weapons for the just-drafted Sam Darnold. We understand and endorse the logic, there, though a top-three selection for the 6-foot, 202-pound Samuel feels incredibly rich to us. It's outside of the industry consensus, at the very least -- to whit, neither ESPN's Todd McShay, nor Bleacher Report's Matt Miller, have Samuel being drafted until the mid-20's in their own recent 2019 mocks.

May 15 - 2:14 PM

South Carolina redshirt senior WR Deebo Samuel (leg) said that he's back to 85-90% health.

Samuel (6'0/202) is almost all the way returned to full health after a lengthy recovery from a fractured fibula sustained in Week 3 of the 2017 campaign. The redshirt senior wideout participated in spring practice, though the Gamecocks did limit him with his practice work as he continued his rehabilitation. Samuel has the upside to surpass 1,000 yards receiving for the coming season so long as he's healthy.
