USC HC Clay Helton said that he expects freshman TE Tyler Petite (knee) to be able to play in Saturday's game against Colorado.
Petite (6'6/235) sustained a minor sprain to the AC joint in his shoulder in this past weekend's win over Arizona, but all systems go for Saturday's showdown with the Buffs. The frosh tight end has made a nice impact in his initial season of collegiate play, registering a 20-292-3 receiving line in 10 games this year. Fri, Nov 10, 2017 09:00:00 PM

USC freshman TE Tyler Petite suffered an AC sprain in his shoulder in Saturday's loss to Arizona.

This is a fairly big loss, as the Trojans now have only two healthy scholarship tight ends. Petite contributed right out of the gates for the Trojans this season, posting a 20-292-3 line. USC has not yet released a timetable for his return.

USC freshman TE Tyler Petite caught three passes for 79 yards and two scores in a 28-27 victory over Utah on Saturday.

Now that's efficient. Petite (6'6/235) certainly made the most of his three touches; finding the end zone twice against the Utah secondary. He did most of the work on his 52-yard score, and he also had a 17-yard score from Sam Darnold to make it 21-14 Utes in the middle of the third quarter. This could be a breakout game from the talented freshman.

USC HC Clay Helton says freshman TE Tyler Petite (foot) will be a game-time decision Saturday against Cal.

Per Helton, Petite "made significant progress" Thursday in practice. The 6-foot-6, 235-pound Petite is a nice receiving target for Cody Kessler when he's on the field. Helton also told the media that Connor Spears will play more against the Bears.

USC head coach Steve Sarkisian notes that they're "anxious to try and get" USC freshman TE Tyler Petite "the ball a little more."

The 6-foot-6, 235-pound Petite has been a "really good weapon for us," USC coach Steve Sarkisian told Los Angeles Daily News. Sarkisian praised the true freshman for his poise, as the "game hasn’t been too big for him." With sophomore Bryce Dixon expelled from school for violating USC’s sexual-conduct code, Petite has now taken over as the Trojans’ No. 2 tight end.

USC freshman TE Tyler Petite should "see time this season with depth an issue at tight end," USC beat writer Scott Wolf notes.

The former four-star recruit out of California, recorded 37 receptions for 969 yards and nine touchdowns during his senior year at Campolindo High School. ESPN ranked the 6-foot-6, 235 pound Petite the No. 2 tight end in the 2015 recruiting class and the 85th overall recruit. With sophomore Bryce Dixon out of the program due to an unspecified student-conduct issue, and junior Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick still working on being academically eligible, Petite has solid opportunity to contribute.
