Georgia junior RB Elijah Holyfield rushed for 50 yards and one touchdown on six carries in Saturday's 66-27 win over UMass.
This game was out of hand earlier, so Holyfield (5'11/215) wasn't needed. The junior back was able to make the most of his small workload however. His lone touchdown came on a cut outside, and it brought his season total up to six. Holyfield will likely see more than six carries next week against Georgia Tech before the Bulldogs take on the No. 1 team in the country on December 1st. Nov 17 - 9:04 PM

Georgia junior RB Elijah Holyfield rushed for 115 yards and a score on 18 carries in Saturday's 34-17 win over Kentucky.

Billed as a heavyweight fight, Georgia popped Kentucky in the mouth right after the opening bell sounded, had them on the mat early in the third quarter, and choked them out from there. The strategy was quite simple: Run the ball effectively, and shut down Benny Snell. Check and check. The Bulldogs dropped 331 rushing yards on the Wildcats and held UK's ground attack to a mere 84.

Georgia junior RB Elijah Holyfield rushed for 90 yards on 14 carries in Saturday's 43-29 win over Missouri.

The Bulldogs running backs room is an interesting one. Heading into the season, it was just assumed that D'Andre Swift would be the lead runner in this loaded backfield. That has not been the case. Holyfield (5'11/215) drew the start in this one and ended up leading the team in rushing for a second consecutive contest (though Swift did ultimately see two more carries than him). In the last two games, he's rushed for 190 yards. The situation is looking more and more like it's starting to develop into a timeshare. Georgia will play host to Tennessee next weekend.

Georgia junior RB Elijah Holyfield warmed up with the starters ahead of Saturday's game against Missouri.

Per beat writer Seth Emerson, Brian Herrien was warming up with the second group while D'Andre Swift appeared third in line. Swift appears to have a minor right leg injury, so this might be Holyfield's day to shine.
Sep 22 - 11:56 AM

Georgia junior RB Elijah Holyfield rushed for 100 yards on eight carries in Saturday's 49-7 win over Middle Tennessee.

Holyfield (5'11/215) led the Bulldogs on both the carry and yardage fronts in Saturday's victory, while starting back D'Andre Swift had just four carries for 15 yards, here. Games like this are the perfect sandbox for HC Kirby Smart to play around with options and we wouldn't read too much into Swift's limited load. Holyfield has now rushed for an even 200 yards and two touchdowns through three games played. Missouri shows next on the Bulldogs' schedule.

With Georgia freshman RB Zamir White reportedly tearing his ACL, junior RB Elijah Holyfield is likely to see more reps backing up D'Andre Swift.

Holyfield (5'11/215), a four-star prospect out of high school, appeared in 13 games last season and rushed for 293 yards and two touchdowns on 50 carries. With Sony Michel and Nick Chubb both in the NFL, Georgia will be looking for new contributors in the backfield with D'Andre Swift expected to be the starter. And with White likely to miss the entire season, Holyfield appears to be the Bulldogs' top option to back up Swift with James Cook also competing for reps.

Georgia HC Kirby Smart would not confirm that sophomore RB Elijah Holyfield or sophomore WR Riley Ridley will be suspended for a game due to their offseason arrests for marijuana possession.

"We are internally disciplining them so it will come out in due time. Those guys are both being disciplined internally," Smart said. Georgia's policy for student-athletes hit with arrests such as these is a one-game suspension. Should that play out, both Holyfield and Ridley would sit in the Bulldogs' season-opener against Appalachian State on September 2.

Georgia sophomore RB Elijah Holyfield was arrested on a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge early Monday morning.

Campus police arrested Holyfield, who has been charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, plus paraphernalia. The last name should be familiar enough -- he is the son of boxer Evander Holyfield. This past season, the 5-foot-11, 204-pounder saw playing time in five games as a true freshman, rushing for 29 yards in that space. According to Georgia policy for student athletes, a one-game suspension could be coming down the pike.

Georgia HC Kirby Smart indicated that he expects freshman RB Elijah Holyfield (ankle) to play against Nicholls State on Saturday.

"We hope to get him some work this week," Smart said during his weekly radio show. Holyfield tweaked his ankle during Georgia's second scrimmage of August and was held out of Saturday's season-opening win over North Carolina -- though his sitting was due to the fact that the injury prevented him from receiving adequate practice reps, rather than the injury itself. Nick Chubb is locked in as a starter (and then some), but the 5-foot-11, 204-pound Holyfield should be able to knock out some carries against a cupcake opponent this weekend. He wouldn't hold fantasy intrigue unless Chubb went down injured.

Georgia freshman RB Elijah Holyfield (ankle) is currently day-to-day.

Holyfield suffered a minor ankle tweak during last Saturday's scrimmage. Said HC Kirby Smart, "He’s still gimpy on the ankle, but we’re gonna get all we can out of him." To that effect, the 5-foot-11, 204-pounder practiced on Friday. With Sony Michel (arm) still uncertain for the opener against North Carolina, Holyfield could be in line for relief carries behind Nick Chubb if his ankle responds well over the coming week.

Georgia freshman RB Elijah Holyfield (ankle) was a full-participant in practice on Friday.

Holyfield initially hurt his ankle early in last Saturday's scrimmage. It didn't concern HC Kirby Smart at the time and the tweak was apparently minor enough that the 5-foot-11, 204-pounder was able to return to practice on Friday. Holyfield ranked as Rivals' No. 108 prospect for the 2016 cycle. He is worth a look in dynasty drafts -- not only for his long-term outlook, but also for a nice little potential short-term upside if Nick Chubb (knee) or Sony Michel (arm) suffer setbacks.

Georgia freshman RB Elijah Holyfield's ankle injury is not serious, according to head coach Kirby Smart.

Smart made sure to note Holyfield's injury is not a high ankle sprain and should be able to return to the field by the end of the week. Holyfield suffered the injury during a scrimmage on Saturday. Right now Nick Chubb sits atop the depth chart, with Sony Michel behind him despite working back from a broken arm. There might be a handful of carries available to open the season.

Georgia freshman RB Elijah Holyfield suffered an ankle injury during Saturday's scrimmage.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Seth Emerson and Chip Towers hear that Holyfield suffered the ankle injury early in scrimmage, after the media's open-viewing period had ended. He was subsequently spotted sporting a walking boot. The 5-foot-11, 204-pounder likely wouldn't have seen extended playing time this season prior to fellow back Sony Michel's fractured arm in July, but that injury opened the door for him to earn a potential early backup role behind Nick Chubb. Holyfield's status moving forward is not yet known, but the former four-star recruit's outlook should become more clear after HC Kirby Smart addresses the media on Wednesday.

Four-star running back Elijah Holyfield committed to Georgia.

The son of boxing champ Evander Holyfield is the No. 181 recruit in the ESPN 300. He picked the Bulldogs over Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama and South Carolina. "Holyfield is a tough, balanced runner who uses his patience and vision to find the hole and get through it quickly," reads his ESPN scouting report. "Has the speed to get outside and the elusiveness to make defenders in the second level miss. Shows the ability to spurt through tight creases in-line. Shows more toughness and power than you might think." The 5-foot-11, 204-pounder rushed for 1,735 yards with 28 touchdowns at Woodward Academy last year.
