Notre Dame redshirt senior LB Drue Tranquill has accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl.
Tranquill has been among the most productive linebackers in college football in his time with the Fighting Irish when he's on the field. Unfortunately, he's been limited throughout his career with various injuries, including two ACL tears. He made the move from safety to linebacker, so he's able to help in coverage, and the 6-foot-2, 235-pound defender is also stout in the run game. He'll have to test well and show he's healthy, but if he can, he'll be one of the first senior linebackers selected in 2019. Wed, Nov 21, 2018 03:53:00 PM

Notre Dame redshirt senior LB Drue Tranquill (ankle) will not start Saturday's game at Northwestern.

Jordan Genmark Heath will start in place of Tranquill, who is attempting to return to the lineup after injuring his right ankle during Notre Dame's October 27 win over Navy. Tranquill did go through pregame warmups with his ankle heavily taped, but ultimately the decision was made to do with Genmark Heath. There's been no determination made as to whether or not the redshirt senior will be able to play at all Saturday night.

Notre Dame redshirt senior S Drue Tranquill (ankle) is participating in warmups ahead of Saturday's game against Northwestern.

Tranquill (6'2/235) has his right ankle, which he injured in Notre Dame's October 27 win over Navy, heavily taped. Notre Dame HC Brian Kelly was optimistic that the redshirt senior safety would be able to play Saturday night, and his being able to go through pregame is a step in that direction. Should he not be able to play, Jordan Genmark Heath would be next in line.

Notre Dame is optimistic that redshirt senior S Drue Tranquill (ankle) will be able to play against Northwestern on Saturday.

Tranquill (6'2/235) required a cart to leave the field in Saturday's win over Navy and the initial mood surrounding his prognosis was not particularly light. X-rays came back negative, though, and (at least publicly) Irish HC Brian Kelly expressed some hope on Tuesday that the redshirt senior could still potentially suit up versus the Wildcats. For now, consider Tranquill questionable.

Notre Dame redshirt senior S Drue Tranquill (ankle) is "by no means likely to play next weekend" against Northwestern.

After Saturday's game, coach Brian Kelly said he wouldn't rule Tranquill out for next weekend's game, but NBC Sports reports that Kelly's statement is too optimistic. Tranquill is dealing with a sprained ankle, but at least the x-rays came back negative. The severity, which is currently unknown, determines the length of the absence, so Tranquill could miss anywhere from 1-4 weeks. His practice availability will be a good indicator of when he will return.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said he wouldn't rule out redshirt senior S Drue Tranquill (ankle) for next week's game against Northwestern.

Tranquill was carted to the locker room just hours ago, but Kelly said his redshirt senior safety was already moving around well without the walking boot he was wearing after returning from the locker room. This is fantastic news for the Fighting Irish, as the video suggested Tranquill's injury could be very serious. If he can return to practice late this week, he has a shot at playing.

Notre Dame redshirt senior S Drue Tranquill (ankle) reportedly sprained his right ankle during Saturday's game against Navy.

Tranquill, who was carted off of the field after having his right leg rolled up on, eventually returned to the Notre Dame sideline with a protective boot on his foot. The injury had the look of something far more serious than a sprain, so this reported diagnosis appears to be good news for the redshirt senior. How much time Tranquill will have to miss as a result of the injury is unknown at this time.

Notre Dame redshirt senior S Drue Tranquill (leg) returned to the team sideline with a boot on his right foot after suffering an injury in Saturday's game against Navy.

Tranquill's injury looked really bad at the time that it occurred, with a Navy lineman rolling up on his leg. While the redshirt senior certainly won't return to action Saturday night, the fact that he's back on the sideline could be a positive sign when it comes to the severity of the injury. Sophomore Drew White has replaced Tranquill in the lineup, and more should be learned about the injured safety's status for future games in the coming days.

Notre Dame redshirt senior S Drue Tranquill was carted off the field with a possible knee injury in the first quarter of Saturday's game against Navy.

Tranquill has dealt with knee injuries throughout his collegiate career, so this is obviously a distressing development. He had a towel over his face as he was carted off the field. We'll pass along updates as information becomes available. Drew White replaced Tranquill after he left the game.

Notre Dame sophomore S Drue Tranquill is out for the season after tearing the ACL in his right knee against Georgia Tech.

Tranquill is already the sixth key contributor the Irish have lost for the season. He will undergo surgery within two weeks. The Irish are also playing without QB Malik Zaire (broken right ankle), RB Tarean Folston (torn right ACL), TE Durham Smythe (torn right MCL), DT Jarron Jones (torn right MCL) and nickelback Shaun Crawford (torn ACL). "Certainly we can't afford to lose any more players at key positions: Quarterback, running back, you start to get into true freshmen, and that will be obviously a significant change in what we look like," Kelly said.
