Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien accepted an invitation to the East-West Shrine Game.
Rypien (6'2/202) won't be heading to the Senior Bowl ala Will Grier or Drew Lock, but will have a fine stage of his own on which to start building his draft case in earnest. The Boise State signal-caller has a beautiful touch on his throws and is a sharp prospect on the pure mechanical level, though he lacks true arm strength. The Draft Network's Benjamin Solak also notes in the negative that Rypien "[p]anics under pressure and often makes ill-advised 'hope' throws when under duress" before adding that he is "not an escape artist." Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline hits him up with a sixth-round grade as we head into the winter. Dec 6 - 4:38 PM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 15-of-31 passes for 125 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in a 19-16 overtime loss against Fresno State in the Mountain West Conference Championship game.

Rypien and his teammates came up just short against the Bulldogs, but they're still going bowling. The Broncos will likely be bucking their way to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Bowl against a Conference USA opponent, as Fresno punched its ticket for the Las Vegas Bowl with the win. Rypien will be looking to go out in style and start ramping up for the NFL, with several scouts likely paying close mind.
Dec 1 - 11:56 PM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 23-of-32 passes for 310 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 33-24 win over Utah State.

Rypien (6'2/202) now has 21 300-yard passing games in his career, which is a new Mountain West record, but this was a huge team win to get to the Mountain West Championship Game highlighted by running back Alexander Mattison's 37-carry, 200-yard and three-touchdown performance. For Rypien, it's another solid effort ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft, and this one was against a quality Utah State defense. On the season, the senior quarterback has 29 passing touchdowns and only seven interceptions with a solid 8.6 yards per attempt average. NFL scouts will be watching him against Fresno State and in Boise State's bowl game.
Nov 25 - 2:31 AM

The Draft Network's Benjamin Solak believes there's a path for Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien to become the first quarterback taken in the 2019 NFL Draft.

There are some things that have to go right, but all of these things are possible. Solak cautions first that Rypien isn't there yet, and he has Justin Herbert, Will Grier and Dwayne Haskins ahead of him. Herbert could be headed back to school, and there's no word yet if Haskins will enter. Rypien also will need an invite to the Senior Bowl -- which seems likely -- and he'll have to "crush" -- as Solak puts it -- the interview and combine. If that happens, it's certainly possible that Rypien could be the first quarterback taken -- assuming teams sour on Grier and Drew Lock, of course.
Nov 19 - 8:39 PM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 17-of-27 passes for 222 yards with three touchdowns in a 45-14 thrashing of New Mexico on Friday.

Rypien started out red-hot in this one, and threw two touchdowns on his first two drives; both to Sean Modster. He connected with Modster again for touchdown number three, but he had much less success after the first quarter. Still, a strong game for one of the more underrated quarterbacks in the country. He and the Broncos have a must-win game next Saturday against Utah State.
Nov 17 - 12:34 AM

Boise State senior QB Bret Rypien completed 24-of-29 passes for 269 yards with a touchdown and interception in a 24-17 victory over Fresno State on Friday.

This was a terrific game that lived up to the hype, and it's a critical win for Boise State that gives them a big tiebreaker for the division title. Rypien did throw one costly interception, but outside of that he was accurate and on-time with his throws -- as usual -- and he completed a two-touchdown comeback with a 49-yard touchdown pass to Khalil Shakir. The Broncos improve to 8-2, and keep their dreams of a big bowl game alive. They'll take on New Mexico next Friday.
Nov 10 - 1:52 AM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 23-of-35 passes for 214 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Saturday's 21-16 win against BYU.

It was just the second time this season Rypien failed to record at least two touchdown passes in his nine starts. He took a step back after posting a season-best 399 yards and five touchdowns last weekend at Air Force. He'll need to turn in a much better outing if the Broncos are going to upend the top-25 Fresno State Bulldogs on the Smurf Turf on Friday night.
Nov 4 - 3:07 AM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 20-of-34 passes for 399 yards and five touchdowns in Saturday's 48-38 win over Air Force.

Rypien (6'2/202) was not always sharp in his accuracy, but he more than made up for it when he did connect with John Hightower, Sean Modster and company. The senior signal-caller was at his hottest in the first half, when he threw for four of his five scoring passes. He tied a career-high with the quintet and has now thrown for at least 300 yards and at least three touchdown passes in five of his eight contests this season. Up next on his schedule, a showdown with BYU.
Oct 27 - 10:58 PM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 22-of-26 passes for 308 yards and four touchdowns in a 56-28 shellacking of Colorado State on Friday.

Impressive. Rypien (6'2/202) wasn't exactly challenged in this one going against one of the worst secondaries in college football -- at least statistically -- but his ability to get rid of the ball quickly and accurately was on full display. He also made a few plays with his legs, but for the most part, he was able to pick apart the Rams in the pocket. The Broncos will look to improve their 4-2 record next Saturday when they face Air Force.
Oct 20 - 12:21 AM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 28-of-38 passes for 299 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in Saturday's 31-27 win at Nevada and he rushed for 24 more yards.

It was a dogfight in the Biggest Little City in America, but Rypien and the Broncos were able to overcome their four turnovers and hold off the upset-minded Wolf Pack. Each of Rypien's two scoring strikes came in the decisive third quarter, hitting CT Thomas for a 36-yard touchdown and A.J. Richardson for a 41-yard score. It was a gutsy effort for Rypien and the Broncos after a home setback against San Diego State last week. They'll look to keep up the winning ways next Friday when Colorado State visits the Smurf Turf.
Oct 14 - 2:50 AM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 21-of-41 passes for 185 yards and two interceptions in Saturday's 19-13 loss to San Diego State.

Rypien had thrown for at least 300 yards with multiple touchdowns in every game this season entering the weekend, working to a spotless 12/0 TD/INT ratio. The touchdown and yardage streaks came to end on Saturday, ditto his interception-free line. We'll toss him a mulligan on this one given his immaculate prior work. Doff of the cap to SDSU for a fine defensive effort. Rypien figures to be able to bounce back against Nevada next weekend.
Oct 6 - 7:36 PM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 28-of-42 passes for 342 yards with two touchdowns in a 34-14 thrashing of Wyoming on Saturday.

It wasn't Rypien's fault that the Broncos were crushed by Oklahoma State in their previous game, and he was a key factor for the blowout win on Saturday. There were fits of inaccuracy, but for the most part, the veteran signal-caller was on time with the football, and able to get the ball down the field when necessary. He's now up to 12 touchdowns on the year without an interception, and he'll look to keep that up next Saturday when Boise State takes on San Diego State.
Sep 29 - 10:42 PM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 39-of-56 passes for 380 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's 44-21 loss to Oklahoma State.

While Rypien may have come away with the loss on Saturday, his was a game effort nonetheless. He opened the game's scoring with a 31-yard touchdown toss to John Hightower with barely 30 seconds gone off the first quarter clock, then followed that up with scoring tosses to A.J. Richardson -- who made a beautiful one-handed catch to scoot into the end zone from 34 yards out -- and Chase Blakley in the third quarter. Blakley's five-yard touchdown in the closing minutes of the stanza represented the final points BSU would score in the game. Tough loss aside, Rypien has been a statistical star this season, having now thrown for 1,047 yards with a 10/0 TD/INT ratio in just three games. The Broncos will be off on bye next weekend before they head to Laramie to take on Wyoming in Week 5.
Sep 15 - 7:37 PM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 21-of-28 passes for 362 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 62-7 blowout win over UConn.

Rypien had his second straight outstanding performance to kick off the 2018 campaign, and he now has a pair of 300-yard passing games with seven touchdowns and no interceptions. The game was well out of hand in the second half, so he turned it over to Chase Cord to finish things up. Rypien and the Broncos will face a much bigger test next week when they travel to Oklahoma State to tangle with the Cowboys.
Sep 9 - 2:07 AM

Boise State senior QB Brett Rypien completed 20-of-28 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns in Saturday's 56-20 win over Troy.

Fine work by Rypien, here. The senior signal-caller fired off all four of his touchdown passes in the first half as the Broncos roared out to a 35-7 halftime lead. They cruised comfortably in the second half to polish off a nice opening victory. With Rypien now having reached his final year of eligibility, BSU has one last shot at big national things before they'll have to retool without the signal-caller.
