Auburn junior DE Marlon Davidson will return to school for the 2019 season.
While the Tigers' 2018 season very much went sideways after they entered the campaign with vague Playoff hopes and dreams, HC Gus Malzahn's boys have had a nice few weeks since the campaign's close. They waxed Purdue in bowl action earlier this winter, for starters. More recently, we have seen a flurry of "coming back to school" announcements from key members of the team in the past few days, with Davidson set to join T Prince Tega Wanogho and DT Derrick Brown as draft-eligible players who will be running it back for another go-round. For his part, the 6-foot-3, 278-pound Davidson racked up 46 tackles (4.5 for loss), 2.5 sacks and three passes defended across 13 games played for the 2018 campaign. Jan 8 - 1:35 PM

Auburn junior DE Marlon Davidson is a possibility to enter the NFL Draft, according to Christian Page of SportsCall Auburn.

Davidson is one of three who Long mentions are possibilities, alongside fellow defensive lineman Derrick Brown and OT Prince Tega Wanogho. While Davidson hasn't put up huge numbers, he is considered a quality athlete who could play inside or help as a five-technique, and that versatility would help him get middle-round looks assuming he tests well.

Auburn junior DE Marlon Davidson (left foot) is considered day-to-day heading into Saturday's game against Ole Miss.

Davidson had to be helped off the field in the third quarter of last Saturday's loss to Tennessee. He limped to keep pressure off his left foot.

Auburn sophomore DE Marlon Davidson is wearing a brace on his left arm after spraining his elbow back in spring practice.

Davidson (6'3/280) indicated that this was just a precautionary move. "Everything is good now, I had a UCL sprain (in the spring). Other than that, I’m 100 percent ready to go," he explained. His health will be critical for the Tigers' cause during the coming season -- last year, Davidson started all 13 games as a true freshman and recorded 38 tackles (6.0 for loss), 2.5 sacks, four passes defended and a forced fumble along the way. SEC Country's Oliver Connolly believes that he could contend for the SEC sack-lead during the coming campaign.

SEC Country's Oliver Connolly writes that he is "grabbing all the stock (of Auburn sophomore DE Marlon Davidson) [he] can before the midseason rush."

"Davidson has a magnificent blend of quickness, power and hustle. His technique needs refining, and he must deal without having Montravius Adams and Carl Lawson alongside, but Davidson has the potential to lead the SEC in sacks," Connolly notes. The 6-foot-3, 280-pounder (a four-star recruit for the 2016 cycle) logged 38 tackles (6.0 for loss), 2.5 sacks, four passes defended and a forced fumble while appearing in all 13 of Auburn's games as a true freshman.

Four-star DE Marlon Davidson committed to Auburn in September.

New Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele should be looking forward to working with Davidson. An Alabama native, the 6-foot-3, 280-pound recruit kicks down the door at No. 38 in the ESPN 300. The boys over at the Worldwide Leader noted that Davidson has a "wonderful combination of height and bulk" that factors into his potential as a "real tough, versatile and highly productive Power-5 DL." On the more cautious side, the site notes that Davidson occasionally relies too much on his raw athletic ability, rather than his technique. This is far from a unique criticism of a defender his age, though, and he should naturally be able to shore up some of the rawness as he matures.
