Arkansas HC Chad Morris expects junior RB Devwah Whaley (ankle) to return Saturday against Mississippi State.
Whaley was the team’s starting running back until suffering an ankle injury in the Ole Miss game in mid-October. Whaley had 298 yards and two touchdowns rushing at the time. He will likely form a committee with Rakeem Boyd going forward. Thu, Nov 15, 2018 12:45:00 PM

Arkansas junior RB Devwah Whaley (ankle) was seen running on Tuesday.

Whaley is expected to return at some point in November following ankle surgery. Arkansas, on bye this week, next plays a week from Saturday against LSU. We should have a better idea about Whaley's status in a week's time.

Arkansas junior RB Devwah Whaley (ankle) will be out until at least November following surgery.

We can officially shelve the Devwah Whaley Breakout Year talk for another year (and, perhaps, forever). Whaley missed the Alabama game with a concussion but was able to return Saturday against Ole Miss. He promptly suffered the ankle injury. Rakeem Boyd also got dinged up in that one. Arkansas will hope Boyd's status clears up this week ahead of the Tulsa game.

Arkansas junior RB Devwah Whaley left Saturday's 37-33 loss to Ole Miss in the third quarter due to an undisclosed injury.

Whaley has been suffering from concussive symptoms prior to the game and was just recently cleared to play mid-week. This injury occurred at the end of a 13-yard run in the third quarter and Whaley looked to be in a significant amount of pain. Prior to exiting, Whaley had 67 yards on 12 carries. Fellow RB Rakeem Boyd also got injured in this one, leaving the Razorbacks with Chase Hayden. Whaley and Boyd's status is up in the air for next week's game against Tulsa.

Arkansas junior RB Devwah Whaley (concussion) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice and is likely to return on Saturday against Ole Miss.

"It will be great to get [Whaley] back, but Rakeem Boyd has had a really good last few weeks," HC Chad Morris said. "I do anticipate being able to roll Devwah in if he's able to go." So it sounds as though Whaley will return as the 1B option off the bench. Whaley's long-awaited breakout campaign may never come.

Arkansas HC Chad Morris confirmed that junior RB Devwah Whaley (concussion) is doubtful to play against Alabama on Saturday.

Morris said Whaley still hasn't cleared the concussion protocol. Whaley, who leads the Razorbacks with 231 yards rushing, didn't practice this week. The 5-foot-11, 209-pounder will almost assuredly sit out against the Crimson Tide. Rakeem Boyd will likely start in his place.

Otis Kirk, of NBC's Arkansas affiliate, reports that Arkansas junior RB Devwah Whaley (concussion) will not play against Alabama on Saturday.

Whaley has not yet been officially ruled out, but it looks like things are trending that way barring a rapid recovery over the next few days. The 5-foot-11, 209-pound junior is recovering from a concussion sustained in Saturday's loss to Texas A&M. Should Whaley be sidelined against the Crimson Tide -- as if they needed the help -- Rakeem Boyd would slide up to start in his place.

Arkansas junior RB Devwah Whaley (concussion) is considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday's game against Alabama.

Whaley missed last Saturday's loss against Texas A&M after suffering the head injury in the second half of the Sept. 22 loss to Auburn. Whaley has rushed for 231 yards and two touchdowns on 53 carries this year. Rakeem Boyd is next man up if Whaley can't go.

Arkansas junior RB Devwah Whaley is considered to be "very doubtful" for Saturday's game against Texas A&M due to an undisclosed injury.

Whaley took a hard hit during the third quarter of the Sept. 22 loss to Auburn, not returning to the game as a result. While it's been reported that the junior may have suffered a concussion, Arkansas HC Chad Morris did not confirm or deny that during his media availability. The 5-foot-11, 209-pound junior is Arkansas' leading rusher this season, as he's rushed for 231 yards and two touchdowns on 53 carries. Should Whaley not be able to play Saturday, sophomores Chase Hayden and Rakeem Boyd would be next in line.

Arkansas junior RB Devwah Whaley (unspecified) is considered day-to-day in advance of Saturday's game against Texas A&M.

Whaley (5'11/209) was forced out of Saturday's loss to Auburn due to an undisclosed injury concern, potentially a concussion. Razorbacks HC Chad Morris declined to confirm whether the junior back was in the concussion protocol when asked about it on Monday. He said he'd have a further update on the injury later in the week. Should Whaley (231 yards two touchdowns) be unable to play versus the Aggies on Saturday, look for Chase Hayden and Rakeem Boyd to receive extra touches.

Arkansas junior RB Devwah Whaley ran for 165 yards and a score on 26 carries in a 34-27 loss to Colorado State on Saturday.

The Razorbacks came up short against the MWC school, but it's hard to fault Whaley. He bounced nicely after a mediocre game against Eastern Illinois, consistently making tacklers miss and churning out yardage. The score was a three-yard dive to give the Razorbacks a 7-3 lead in the first quarter. Unfortunately, the Razorbacks' passing game and defense wasn't up to the challenge. Whaley should have another big game against North Texas next Saturday.

Arkansas sophomore RB Devwah Whaley rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in the school's 42-24 win over New Mexico State on Saturday.

Whaley's size certainly fits Bret Bielema's profile, as does his running style. Whaley's touchdown was a short one, inside the 10-yard line, as he bounced it outside for the score. This was easily Whaley's top game of the season.

Arkansas sophomore RB Devwah Whaley is warming up ahead of Saturday's game against Texas A&M.

As expected, Whaley will function as the starter against the Aggies. That wasn't assured two days ago, when reports surfaced that Whaley had gotten into a scuffle with a teammate in the locker room. HC Brett Bielema called the incident "minor" and cleared Whaley to play.

Arkansas HC Bret Bielema said on his radio show that sophomore RB Devwah Whaley will play on Saturday against Texas A&M.

Earlier today, it was reported that Whaley had gotten into a scuffle with a teammate in the locker room. Bielema called the incident "minor," and said it won't effect his status for the game on Saturday against the Aggies.

SEC Country's Eric Boland reports that Arkansas sophomore RB Devwah Whaley got into a fight with a teammate.

When news of the fight surfaced, there were initial rumors that Whaley had sustained a broken jaw in the altercation. Boland is hearing from multiple sources that that is not the case, though. Whaley has since tweeted that he's "set to travel" with the team for their showdown with Texas A&M on Saturday. Arkansas has yet to comment on all this ugliness and it's possible that Whaley travels to Arlington but does not play in the game. If he sits, expect David Williams and Chase Hayden to receive the bulk of carries. This is a developing story and we'll pass along updates as they become available. Stay tuned.
