Date:

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele completed 22-of-32 passes for 249 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Saturday's 42-27 win over Kansas.

This may well be Buechele's last start of the season, as Sam Ehlinger has been cleared from a concussion and saw a little bit of work during Saturday's victory. For his part, Buechele's lone touchdown on the evening came right at the beginning, as he hooked up with Lorenzo Joe for a 49-yard score just one second into the contest. We'll have to wait and see just who Texas HC Tom Herman turns to to start against West Virginia next weekend, but our money's on Ehlinger so long as he's healthy.
Nov 11 - 10:05 PM

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele will start for the Longhorns on Saturday against Kansas.

Freshman QB Sam Ehlinger (concussion) has been cleared to play for the Longhorns, but Buechele will get the start on Saturday. Don't be surprised if Ehlinger gets a chance to play as well -- particularly if this game gets ugly against the woeful Jayhawks -- but for now, the (slightly) more experienced signal-caller will be under-center for the Longhorns.
Nov 9 - 9:10 PM

Texas HC Tom Herman indicated that both freshman QB Sam Ehlinger and sophomore QB Shane Buechele could play Saturday against TCU.

"I'm not ready to say anything regarding the quarterback and who is going to start," Herman said. "The only silver lining in the fact these two young guys have been injured is we can at least internally keep who is going to start as best under wraps as I can." Ehlinger stole the job from Buechele for his work in games against teams like USC, Kansas State and Oklahoma, but Buechele looked good in last week's win against Baylor with Ehlinger (concussion) sidelined. "They present different issues for defenses," Herman said. "We'll have an idea Tuesday or Wednesday who it's going to be internally ... I would imagine there's still the possibility you might see both of them too."
Oct 31 - 2:54 PM

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele completed 27-of-34 passes for 256 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 38-7 victory over Baylor on Saturday.

Buechele drew the start due to freshman QB Sam Ehlinger's concussion. Outside of the interception, he played well enough, adding 42 yards and another score on the ground. The sophomore figures to return to the bench once Ehlinger recovers.
Oct 28 - 4:13 PM

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele will start against Baylor on Saturday.

Buechele will serve as starting signal-caller in this one due to freshman QB Sam Ehlinger's current concussion woes. The unseated sophomore gunslinger managed 557 yards passing with a 3/2 TD/INT ratio in three games before Ehlinger wrested the gig away from him for good.
Oct 26 - 7:58 PM

The Austin American-Statesman's Brian Davis writes that he would be "absolutely stunned" if Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele did not start against Baylor on Saturday.

Sam Ehlinger is currently dealing with a concussion and has yet to practice this week. All signs are pointing toward Buechele as the man for this weekend's date with the Bears. The sophomore threw for 557 yards with a 3/2 TD/INT ratio in three games before being unseated by Ehlinger as starter.
Oct 25 - 8:07 PM

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele (ankle) was limited in practice on Thursday and will reportedly not start against Kansas State on Saturday.

Buechele, who missed two games earlier this season with a bruised throwing shoulder, suffered a "significant" ankle injury against Iowa State last Thursday. He was fitted for a walking boot, and HC Tom Herman said Monday that Buechele would receive a PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injection. With Buechele perhaps not completely over the shoulder injury, and now hobbled by the ankle injury, it certainly makes sense to use Ehlinger's superior mobility behind Texas' shoddy offensive line on Saturday.
Oct 6 - 5:05 PM

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele (ankle) practiced on Tuesday.

Buechele was just coming back from a shoulder injury when he sustained an ankle injury in Thursday's win over Iowa State. Unlike that shoulder injury, which cost the sophomore two games, this ankle issue is not expected to force him to miss any game action. Texas tangos with Kansas State on Saturday.
Oct 3 - 10:56 PM

Texas HC Tom Herman expects sophomore QB Shane Buechele (ankle) to be able to play against Kansas State.

Buechele (6'1/205) injured the ankle in Thursday's win over Iowa State, and was seen in a walking boot. The injury apparently isn't significant, and the sophomore quarterback should be at close to full-go when the Longhorns take on Kansas State on Saturday.
Oct 2 - 2:39 PM

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele sustained an ankle injury in Thursday's win over Iowa State.

We'll wait and see on this one, but at this juncture, it is believed to be a minor injury concern. Buechele earlier missed two games due to a bruised throwing shoulder prior to his return to starting action against the Cyclones on Thursday.
Sep 30 - 4:08 PM

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele completed 19-of-26 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown with an interception in a 17-7 victory over Iowa State on Thursday.

Buechele (6'1/205) also ran for 42 yards for the Longhorns. It wasn't an overtly impressive return for the sophomore quarterback, but he looked healthy, handling a couple of big shots from Cyclones' defenders. He mostly dinked-and-dunked on the night, with the long pass being a 28-yarder to Lil'Jordan Humphrey. His touchdown pass was a gorgeous pass over the middle to a wide open Toneil Carter to give Texas a 14-0 lead with just over five minutes left in the second quarter. Buechele and the Longhorns will take on Kansas State on October 7.
Sep 28 - 11:31 PM

Updating a previous item, Texas sophomore Shane Buechele (shoulder) will start on Thursday against Iowa State.

Buechele warmed up with the starters, so this is no surprise. Freshman Sam Ehlinger will likely see time in the game as well.

Sep 28 - 8:02 PM

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele (shoulder) warmed up with the first-team before Thursday night's game with Iowa State.

Buchele has missed the past two games with the shoulder injury. It looks like he could get the start tonight, or at the very worst get playing time against the Cyclones.
Sep 28 - 7:56 PM

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele (shoulder) has been taking the majority of first-team reps in practice this week.

While Longhorns HC Tom Herman does not plan on announcing his starter until prior to kickoff against Iowa State on Thursday evening, Buechele's workload in practice is a pretty good indicator that the sophomore will be starting. He has missed the past two games due to a bruised throwing shoulder sustained in a season-opening loss to Maryland, with true frosh Sam Ehlinger filling in for him while he has been sidelined.
