Texas junior QB Shane Buechele is still competing with sophomore Sam Ehlinger for the starting quarterback position.
Coach Tom Herman has been waiting for one of the players to grab the position "by the horns" but neither has been able to do so. Buechele completed 12-of-21 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown while Ehlinger completed 13-of-22 passes for 151 yards. With neither separating themselves from one another, Herman will have a tough decision to make. We like Ehlinger to win the starting job by the time next season rolls around. Apr 22 - 10:30 PM

Texas junior QB Shane Buechele (hip) has been practicing without limitation this spring.

Buechele underwent a minor procedure on his hip in January, but mended up rapidly from that surgery, to the point where he was not even listed on the team's spring injury report. The junior signal-caller is fighting it out with Sam Ehlinger for starting rights this offseason. Ehlinger was handling first-team reps on Tuesday. We like him to win out over Buechele when all is said and done.

Texas junior QB Shane Buechele is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday to repair a minor injury suffered in the Texas Bowl against Missouri.

Per Chuck Carlton of The Dallas Morning News, the surgery will correct a "torn adductor (hip)/abdominal muscle" suffered against the Tigers. Carlton added that Buechele is expected to be ready for spring practices, which begin on March 5. At that time, he and Sam Ehlinger will continue their never-ending quarterback competition.

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele completed 6-of-14 passes for 55 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions and 12 rushing yards in Wednesday's 33-16 win against Missouri in the Texas Bowl.

Buechele and freshman QB Sam Ehlinger split, and the frosh had a better night statistically while misfiring on just four of his 15 attempts. Buechele and Ehlinger will have an open battle in the spring and into training camp as these two signal callers jockey for the most reps. Ultimately head coach Tom Herman likely wants one to step to the forefront so Texas can have some continuity on offense. They'll need it to take that next step to contention in the Big 12 in 2018.

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele will draw the start for the Texas Bowl on Wednesday.

While HC Tom Herman tabbed Buechele as starter, true freshman Sam Ehlinger will see playing time versus Missouri on Wednesday as well. Herman said that Buechele was named starter for the bowl due to Texas' struggles with Ehlinger at the helm in a season-ending loss to Texas Tech at the end of November. In one additional Texas quarterbacking note, Herman said that the position competition will be an open one come the spring.

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele is likely to get the start against Missouri, but Sam Ehlinger is likely to play as well.

Longhorns coach Tom Herman still hasn't named a starter, but it looks like Buechele will get the first snaps for Texas, with Ehlinger getting time as the "running" quarterback. This could be the first step in the audition to see who will be the starting quarterback for Texas in 2018.

Texas HC Tom Herman said he hasn't decided who will start at quarterback for the bowl game against Missouri.

Shane Buechele and Sam Ehlinger have split reps with the first-team in practice, but Buechele has been going out first, followed by Ehlinger. "They've both had good days and both have had not so good days," Herman said. "So we've got a lot of time to worry about that, in terms of who's going to get the bulk of the reps in the game." Either way, the pair will likely platoon against Mizzou, with Buechele functioning as the passer and Ehlinger the runner.

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele started Saturday's game against West Virginia.

HC Tom Herman said earlier this week that both Buechele and freshman Sam Ehlinger will play, so expect to see Ehlinger off the bench on Saturday.

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele completed 22-of-32 passes for 249 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Saturday's 42-27 win over Kansas.

This may well be Buechele's last start of the season, as Sam Ehlinger has been cleared from a concussion and saw a little bit of work during Saturday's victory. For his part, Buechele's lone touchdown on the evening came right at the beginning, as he hooked up with Lorenzo Joe for a 49-yard score just one second into the contest. We'll have to wait and see just who Texas HC Tom Herman turns to to start against West Virginia next weekend, but our money's on Ehlinger so long as he's healthy.

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele will start for the Longhorns on Saturday against Kansas.

Freshman QB Sam Ehlinger (concussion) has been cleared to play for the Longhorns, but Buechele will get the start on Saturday. Don't be surprised if Ehlinger gets a chance to play as well -- particularly if this game gets ugly against the woeful Jayhawks -- but for now, the (slightly) more experienced signal-caller will be under-center for the Longhorns.

Texas HC Tom Herman indicated that both freshman QB Sam Ehlinger and sophomore QB Shane Buechele could play Saturday against TCU.

"I'm not ready to say anything regarding the quarterback and who is going to start," Herman said. "The only silver lining in the fact these two young guys have been injured is we can at least internally keep who is going to start as best under wraps as I can." Ehlinger stole the job from Buechele for his work in games against teams like USC, Kansas State and Oklahoma, but Buechele looked good in last week's win against Baylor with Ehlinger (concussion) sidelined. "They present different issues for defenses," Herman said. "We'll have an idea Tuesday or Wednesday who it's going to be internally ... I would imagine there's still the possibility you might see both of them too."

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele completed 27-of-34 passes for 256 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 38-7 victory over Baylor on Saturday.

Buechele drew the start due to freshman QB Sam Ehlinger's concussion. Outside of the interception, he played well enough, adding 42 yards and another score on the ground. The sophomore figures to return to the bench once Ehlinger recovers.

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele will start against Baylor on Saturday.

Buechele will serve as starting signal-caller in this one due to freshman QB Sam Ehlinger's current concussion woes. The unseated sophomore gunslinger managed 557 yards passing with a 3/2 TD/INT ratio in three games before Ehlinger wrested the gig away from him for good.

The Austin American-Statesman's Brian Davis writes that he would be "absolutely stunned" if Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele did not start against Baylor on Saturday.

Sam Ehlinger is currently dealing with a concussion and has yet to practice this week. All signs are pointing toward Buechele as the man for this weekend's date with the Bears. The sophomore threw for 557 yards with a 3/2 TD/INT ratio in three games before being unseated by Ehlinger as starter.

Texas sophomore QB Shane Buechele (ankle) was limited in practice on Thursday and will reportedly not start against Kansas State on Saturday.

Buechele, who missed two games earlier this season with a bruised throwing shoulder, suffered a "significant" ankle injury against Iowa State last Thursday. He was fitted for a walking boot, and HC Tom Herman said Monday that Buechele would receive a PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) injection. With Buechele perhaps not completely over the shoulder injury, and now hobbled by the ankle injury, it certainly makes sense to use Ehlinger's superior mobility behind Texas' shoddy offensive line on Saturday.
