Wisconsin senior LB T.J. Edwards (hamstring) was given a rest day on Thursday.
Edwards (6'1/242) has been dealing with a hamstring issue since (essentially) the beginning of camp. While not considered serious, the Badgers are understandably easing the senior linebacker along this month. We'll continue to pass along updates as available. We would expect Edwards to be ready for the team's opener against Western Kentucky on Aug. 31, but with camp hitting its back half, any setback could jeopardize his availability for that showdown with the Hilltoppers. Wisconsin senior LB T.J. Edwards (hamstring) was held out of practice, but the injury is not considered serious.

The hamstring injury was suffered last week in practice, but it is not expected to be an issue moving forward. Pro Football Focus lists Edwards as the top returning coverage linebacker in the nation after holding targeted receivers to just 192 yards on 41 targets. Edwards also intercepted four passes. Already an NFL candidate last season as a junior, Edwards is one of the top linebacker prospects of 2018.

Pro Football Focus lists Wisconsin senior LB T.J. Edwards as the top returning linebacker by pass-coverage rating.

Edwards allowed just a 38.9 rating in coverage last year, which squeaks by Buffalo linebacker Khalil Hodge (39.4) for the top mark. "Edwards was targeted 41 times, allowed 28 receptions for just 192 yards and intercepted four passes while breaking up another six, PFF writes. "He led all off-ball linebackers in total plays on the ball last season with 10. He did not allow a reception of longer than 19 yards all season long and was stingy against the run to boot." Edwards was an NFL candidate as a junior, but he's back for his senior season, and could be one of the top inside linebacker prospects in the country.

Wisconsin redshirt junior LB T.J. Edwards will return for the 2018 season.

Edwards (6'1/238) had sought council from the NFL's College Advisory Committee. They came back to him with a "return to school" grade. The redshirt junior linebacker is heeding that advice. He turned in 81 tackles (11.0 for loss) and a quartet of interceptions across 14 games this season. Edwards has made at least 80 tackles in all three of his active campaigns with the Badgers.

Wisconsin redshirt junior LB T.J. Edwards received a "return to school" grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board.

The board gives a "return to school" grade to players who do not draw first- or second-round grades. Said Edwards, "I didn’t expect to get a first- or second-round grade, to be honest with you. ... I’m still on the fence, just because there’s so many things that go into it." The 6-foot-1, 238-pounder indicated that the biggest demerit he's been hearing in terms of his draft stock relates to a lack of speed. He'll have until Jan. 19 to declare should he so choose. Edwards registered 75 tackles (11.0 for loss), four interceptions and seven passes defensed during the regular season.

Wisconsin redshirt junior LB T.J. Edwards had five tackles, an interception and a pass break-up in Saturday's win over Iowa.

The 6-foot-1, 238-pound Edwards, a leader on Wisconsin's vaunted defense, now has 49 tackles, six TFL and four interceptions on the year. "Though vertically challenged, Edwards is a potential three down player for the next level who stacks well against the run while showing the ability to cover running backs or tight ends on passing downs," Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline wrote.

Wisconsin redshirt sophomore LB T.J. Edwards (foot) will not play in Saturday's tilt against LSU.

Edwards fractured his foot over the summer. Near the end of July, HC Paul Chryst said that he had been ruled out indefinitely. Alas, the 6-foot-1, 238-pounder has been unable to recover sufficiently over the past month. He has not practiced during August camp. Tough beat for the Badgers, as Edwards led their strong defensive unit with 84 tackles posted for the past campaign. Chris Orr and Jack Cichy will fill in at middle linebacker and will surely appreciate these opportunities when Leonard Fournette is trucking toward them in the open field come Saturday.

Wisconsin HC Paul Chryst indicated that redshirt sophomore LB T.J. Edwards (foot) will be out indefinitely.

No specifics are available regarding how Edwards suffered the injury, but he was spotted wearing a walking boot earlier in the week and Chryst informed the local media on Tuesday that the 6-foot-1, 238-pounder would be out for at least the foreseeable future. Wisconsin starts up camp on August 8 and kicks off the 2016 campaign in Lambeau Field against LSU on September 3. If Edwards is not ready for the start of the season, it would be a legitimate blow to the Badgers. Last season, he led the program with 84 tackles. He also posted 6.5 TFL. Redshirt sophomore Ryan Connelly and redshirt freshman Nick Thomas should see increased reps in camp while Edwards rehabs from the injury.

Wisconsin redshirt freshman LB T.J. Edwards led the school with 84 tackles as a frosh.

He also posted 6.5 TFL and a forced fumble. ESPN's Travis Haney ranks Edwards as the No. 49 returning player in college football. The Badgers lost both star senior LB Joe Schobert and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda. Next year, they'll rely on a tremendous linebacking unit to stay strong on that side of the ball. Edwards, Vince Biegel and Jack Cichy are the linchpins of that unit.
