The Draft Network's Joe Marino believes Auburn junior DT Derrick Brown is "underdeveloped" in some areas as a player.
Specifically, Marino notes Brown struggles in "vision, mental processing and functional strength." The former five-star recruit recorded three sacks and 9.5 tackles-for-loss last season. Marino admits Brown has "terrific size, athletic ability and flashy hand technique," but his other deficiencies are major issues. In a class loaded with talented defensive lineman, Brown will have to show improvements to make a significant move up the board. Aug 12 - 3:07 PM

MMQB's Albert Breer believes that Auburn sophomore DT Derrick Brown belongs in the same conversation with Michigan DE/DT Rashan Gary, Ohio State DE Nick Bosa and Clemson DT Dexter Lawrence.

All four are apart of the vaunted 2019 defensive line class, and Breer thinks that each could be labeled as top-10 prospects next summer. The 6-foot-5, 316-pound Brown, a former five-star recruit, has eight TFL and 3.5 sacks on the season.

Five-star DT Derrick Brown signed with Auburn.

Brown was the biggest National Signing Day unknown once Rashan Gary committed to Michigan. Auburn and Georgia were considered the major front-runners for his services until he ended the suspense and chose the Tigers. The No. 9 player in the ESPN 300, he's a 6-foot-4, 322-pounder offering a power attack. He also has the potential to play either as a defensive tackle or a defensive end at the collegiate level. ESPN 300 believes that so long as he can keep his pad level low, add a bit of weight and refine his technique, he could develop into a beast.

Four-star DT Derrick Brown indicated that he likes the defensive approach of new Georgia HC Kirby Smart.

Said Scout.com's No. 9 prospect in the country, "Coach Smart is definitely a defensive coach. I think he is going to be focused on the defense at Georgia and he is going to have Georgia more focused and playing big boy football." Brown's being wooed by the likes of Auburn (he called his visit to the Tigers "definitely a nine, or 10"), Alabama and Mississippi State. He'll also be taking a visit to Tennessee. "If I could go to all five schools, I would, but I know I cannot, so I have to make the best decision for the impact it has on my future," he said. We can confirm that he won't be able to attend all five schools. Expect the 6-foot-4, 322-pound future-stalwart to announce his official decision on National Signing Day.

Four-star DT Derrick Brown termed his visit to Auburn "definitely a nine, or 10"

Brown's among the best remaining recruits who has yet to give a verbal commitment, checking in at No. 9 on the ESPN 300. Don't expect that commitment to come before National Signing Day for the 6-foot-4, 322-pound defensive lineman. He's visiting Georgia this weekend and has a date set with Tennessee for January 29. As for Auburn, Brown said, "I really enjoyed the visit. The town itself I like. Every time I go down there I get a little better feel for everything. It has a family feel."
