Texas HC Tom Herman announced prior to Saturday's game against Texas Tech that junior S Brandon Jones (ankle) will not play.

Jones (6'0/205) will miss a second consecutive game as a result of the ankle injury, which he suffered at the team hotel prior to Texas' Nov. 3 loss to West Virginia. With the junior safety ruled out, freshman B.J. Foster will figure prominently in the Longhorn defensive game plan against Texas Tech.

Texas junior S Brandon Jones (ankle) is considered to be questionable for the Longhorns' November 10 game against Texas Tech.

Jones (6'0/205) was unavailable for Texas' most recent game, a 42-41 loss to West Virginia, due to his re-aggravating his ankle injury at the team hotel. While the junior safety has missed two games this season, his 52 total tackles rank fourth on the team. Freshman B.J. Foster made the start against the Mountaineers, and that would likely be the case against Texas Tech should Jones not be able to play.

Texas junior S Brandon Jones (ankle) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against West Virginia.

Jones is a fairly big loss for the Longhorns as one of their best cornerbacks. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline even gave him a draftable, 6th round grade. He has two interceptions on the year and will try to return the following week against Texas Tech.
Nov 3 - 3:35 PM

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline gave Texas junior S Brandon Jones a sixth-round draft grade.

Pauline believes Jones "is a tough, feisty safety who makes plays downhill while also flashing cover skills." He recorded 61 total tackles last season, including five for a loss. Jones is expected to take a big step in his junior season.

Texas signed four-star S Brandon Jones.

The Longhorns beat out usual suspects Baylor and Texas A&M, among others, for the local Nacogdoches High School product. Scout actually considers Jones a five-star recruit and the top safety prospect in the country. ESPN has him a bit lower, No. 49 overall and a four-star prospect. "A run and hit type with great athleticism and instincts," ESPN's scouting report reads. "A potential interchangeable safety but feel he may have the most upside at strong with continued physical development."
