The playing career of Miami junior WR Ahmmon Richards has come to an end due to what's been termed as a "disabling neck injury."
The news regarding Richards, who hadn't appeared in a game since Miami's season-opening loss to LSU due to a bone bruise in his knee, was made public following Saturday's 28-27 comeback win over Florida State. Just three days prior, Miami HC Mark Richt discussed the possibility of the junior wideout redshirting in 2018. Per reports it is unclear when Richards, who was considered to be Miami's best receiver and a possible first round draft pick before the season began, suffered the neck injury. Oct 6 - 8:53 PM

Miami HC Mark Richt said there's a chance that junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) could redshirt.

Richards has missed four consecutive games with a bone bruise on his knee and "remains sidelined indefinitely," according to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson. He won't play against FSU. Richards has been sidelined since getting injured in the opener against LSU. With the NCAA's new four-game redshirt rule, Richards could play in the regular season finale, the ACC title game (if the Hurricanes qualified) and a bowl game and still redshirt. "If things don’t get better, it could happen," Richt said of Richards redshirting. "That’s a possibility. He’s not able this week."

Miami junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) is expected to be "out for a while" according to HC Mark Richt.

Richards (6'1/190) has not played this year because of the knee injury. While Jett Thomas and a few other Hurricanes have stepped up in his absence, it's been a major loss for the Miami offense, as Richards is one of -- if not the -- most talented player on the offense. It's starting to sound like this could be a season-ending injury for the junior, which is, as the kids say, a bummer.

Miami junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against North Carolina.

Richards (6'1/190) has not played since the team's opening loss to LSU. He'll be missing his fourth consecutive game come Thursday. As talented as they come when healthy, the junior has been waylaid by injury concern on repeat throughout his career. As a true freshman, he took the field in 13 games while posting a 49-934-3 receiving line. It's been more or less downhill since then, unfortunately. Just when he plays again this season remains an unknown.

Miami junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) was working out on an exercise bike on Monday.

Richards (6'1/190) has missed three straight games with a knee injury sustained in the opener against LSU. He's week-to-week at this point. We'll have a better idea of his status for Thursday's game against UNC in 48 hours or so.
Sep 24 - 12:26 PM

Miami HC Mark Richt ruled out junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) for Saturday's game against Florida International.

This will be the third straight game the injury-prone Richards has missed after suffering the injury in the opener against LSU. He's officially walking down the path of a second straight year wrecked by injuries. Last fall, the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder was limited to only six games after suffering a severe hamstring injury in August camp and then later getting shut down for the year courtesy of a torn meniscus sustained during a late November practice.

Miami junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) was working out on an exercise bike on Wednesday.

Richards (6'1/190) is day-to-day with a knee injury initially sustained in the opener against LSU. While he has not played in either of the past two games, the junior wideout was listed on the team's Week 4 depth chart in advance of this weekend's coming tilt with FIU and there is tentative optimism that he'll be able to play in that contest. We'll continue to keep tabs on his status in the leadup to kickoff.

Miami junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) did not practice on Tuesday.

Richards (6'1/190) is being considered a day-to-day proposition. He has not played in either of the last two games due to the knee injury he sustained against LSU in the opener. Miami is keeping optimistic about his availability for Saturday's game against FIU, though, and did list him as starting X-receiver on the Week 4 depth chart, a glimmer of hope for the talented-but-injury-cursed wideout. We should have a more clear idea as to Richards' availability for the weekend as the practice week progresses.
Sep 18 - 3:57 PM

Miami junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) is listed as the starting X-receiver on the depth chart for Saturday's tilt with FIU.

This tentatively suggests that Richards will be returning on Saturday after he missed the last two games with a knee injury suffered in the opener against LSU. Of course, the Hurricanes won't rush him back for FIU, so even a minor setback this week could compromise his status. We'll keep you updated as we go.

Miami junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) was ruled out for Saturday's game against Toledo.

Rough start to the year for Richards. He missed five games last year in a campaign that was plagued by knee, ankle and hamstring issues. This year, he couldn't even get through one full game healthy after suffering the knee injury in the opener against LSU. HC Mark Richt has described that injury as a possible bone bruise. Richt still has not revealed a timetable for Richards' return, which is a bit ominous in lieu of the receiver's history.
Sep 13 - 2:13 PM

Miami junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) remains day-to-day ahead of this weekend's game against Toledo.

On Monday, Richt declined to give a timetable for Richards' return, so we're not exactly hopeful that he'll be on the field against the Rockets. Richards missed last Saturday's game against Savannah State after getting injured in the opener against LSU.
Sep 11 - 5:28 PM

Miami HC Mark Richt said there is still no timetable on junior WR Ahmmon Richards' (knee) return, but Richt said Richards is still "day-to-day."

"No timetable" for a player with Richards' injury sounds ominous, while "day-to-day" sounds breezy and light, in the we're-all-day-to-day kind of way. Miami is under no obligation to be more precise publicly with Richards' status, so expect vague updates until a breakthrough. Injured in the opener against LSU, Richards missed Saturday's game against Savannah State. The Canes travel to Toledo this week.
Sep 10 - 1:14 PM

Miami junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) will not play on Saturday against Savannah State.

Not great, Bob. Richards continues to be dogged by injuries. The 6-foot12, 190-pounder was limited to only six games last season, suffering a severe hamstring injury in August camp and then later getting shut down for the year courtesy of a torn meniscus in his left knee sustained during a late November practice. It's anyone's guess as to when he'll return. But from an NFL Draft evaluation perspective, Richards' durability concerns are very real.
Sep 6 - 12:52 PM

Miami HC Mark Richt said that junior WR Ahmmon Richards (knee) is day-to-day.

Richards (6'1/190) sat out Wednesday's practice -- or at least he wasn't practicing during the open media window -- as he continues to rehab from the knee injury sustained in Sunday's loss to LSU. While Richt said earlier in the week that he does not believe that Richards' knee injury is one that will knock him out of commission for the remainder of the season, it's very possible that the wideout could end up missing time upcoming. When healthy, the junior is a dynamic receiver, but his body has betrayed him on multiple occasions during his collegiate career with the Hurricanes.
Sep 5 - 1:51 PM

Miami HC Mark Richt doesn't believe junior WR Ahmmon Richards's knee injury is a "season-ending type thing" or "a prolonged thing."

But Richt did say he isn't "100-percent sure", and further went on to insinuate that Richards may miss time. "We don’t think it’s that severe, certainly enough to keep him from playing. But there’s a difference between an injury that will keep you out of a game and keep you out of a season," Richt said. "We don’t see it being some type of season-ending type thing and we don’t think it’s going to be a prolonged thing but we’re still gathering information and we haven’t tried to do anything in practice yet. Yesterday was a complete day off for the players." Richards, whose 2017 season ended prematurely due to a knee injury, hurt himself on Sunday when he landed on his knee against LSU.
