Multiple outlets are reporting that Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore QB Joshua Jackson is no longer facing a potential academic hurdle to eligibility.
Per both David Teel of the Daily Press and Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times, Jackson's academic issue has been "resolved" and he's currently a member of the team. Word surfaced in early June that he was dealing with a classroom concern, one which could have potentially kept him out of action this fall. With that apparently squared away, he should be good to go for summer workouts and August camp beyond. Jackson is looking to retain his starting role after throwing for 2,991 yards (59.6% completions) with a 20/9 TD/INT ratio this past season. He added 274 yards rushing on top of that. Hendon Hooker and Ryan Willis figure to push him in camp as best they can, but this is Jackson's job until he stumbles. Jun 19 - 11:06 AM

Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore QB Joshua Jackson recorded the highest passer rating in the ACC on plays lasting 2.6 seconds or longer.

Jackson is a talented player but is currently at risk of a suspension due to academic concerns. He started all 13 games for the Hokies last season, throwing for 2,991 yards and 20 touchdowns while adding another 274 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. If the rumors of Jackson's eligibility prove to be true, backups Hendon Hooker and Ryan Willis will have a crack at the starting job.

The Athletic's Bruce Feldman hears that contrary to earlier reports, Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore QB Joshua Jackson (academics) has not been suspended indefinitely by the team.

While Jackson apparently remains in good standing with the team at this juncture, his availability for the fall may be in question due to academic concerns. His father told the Richmond Times-Dispatch on Thursday that clarity as to the quarterback's situation should come in "two days," so we may hear more from this story either later on Friday or over the weekend. Jackson started all 13 games for the Hokies last season, throwing for 2,991 yards (59.6% completions) with a 20/9 TD/INT ratio. Backup quarterbacks Hendon Hooker and Ryan Willis would be thrust into the August spotlight should Jackson find himself in an eligibility lurch upcoming.

Mike McDaniel of ESPN Radio's Blacksburg affiliate reports that Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore QB Joshua Jackson (academics) has been suspended indefinitely.

Per McDaniel, Jackson has been suspended "pending an investigation into an academic issue." No further information has surfaced as of yet as to the exact nature of this investigation, but the quarterback's father is saying that more about his status with the team should be known in the next few days. This past season, the 6-foot-1, 203-pounder threw for 2,991 yards (59.6% completions) with a 20/9 TD/INT ratio while starting all 13 games. Should this suspension end up costing him August camp and beyond, Virginia Tech would require a backup option such as Hendon Hooker or Ryan Willis to step up in his place.

Virginia Tech redshirt freshman QB Josh Jackson completed 14-of-21 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown along with an interception in a 10-0 blanking of Virginia on Friday.

Jackson added 37 yards on nine carries. This was an atrocious offensive game, although you do have to give at least a little bit of credit to both defenses. The only touchdown in the game came on an eight-yard throw from the freshman quarterback to Chris Cunningham on a run-pass option. It was a solid -- if flawed -- first full season for Jackson, and he'll get a chance to finish the season on a strong note in Virginia Tech's bowl game.

Virginia Tech redshirt freshman QB Joshua Jackson completed 13-of-27 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown while rushing for an additional score in Saturday's 24-3 win over Duke.

While this was not the most statistically noteworthy of games by Jackson, he got the job done nonetheless. The 6-foot-1, 211-pounder tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass in the closing seconds of the first half and ran the ball in for a six-yard score late in the third quarter. Jackson has now accounted for 19 touchdowns in eight games this season. He's done a fine job of navigating the Hokies through the campaign and will try to keep it going in a big road showdown with Miami next weekend. Virginia Tech improved to 7-1 with Saturday's win.

Virginia Tech redshirt freshman QB Joshua Jackson threw three touchdowns in a 59-7 shellacking of North Carolina on Saturday.

This was ugly from the start. Jackson (6'1/211) didn't have much accuracy throwing the football, but he didn't need to. The Tar Heels are among the worst Power 5 teams in the country, and the Hokies took advantage of it. Jackson could have had many more scores if he wasn't pulled in the second half with the game out of hand. They'll take on Duke next week.

Virginia Tech redshirt freshman QB Joshua Jackson completed 29-of-44 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions in a 31-17 loss to Clemson on Saturday.

Jackson (6'1/211) had easily the worst game of his Hokies' career on Saturday, which isn't surprising considering he was facing one of the best defenses in the country in Clemson. He threw two costly interceptions, including one that was returned for a touchdown that basically eliminated Virginia Tech from competition. Jackson should get back on track next week against Boston College.

Virginia Tech redshirt freshman QB Joshua Jackson completed 20-of-30 passes for 298 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's 38-0 shutout of Old Dominion.

He added 29 yards on the ground. You can forgive Jackson for throwing his first interception of the season. The 6-foot-1, 203-pounder has been a revelation in his first year as starter, throwing for 1,127 yards and an 11/1 TD/INT rate on 65-percent passing. He's a threat to run, but Jackson hasn't actually topped 30 yards rushing since he had 101 in the opener against West Virginia.

Virginia Tech redshirt freshman QB Joshua Jackson completed 24-of-31 passes for 372 yards and five touchdowns in Saturday's 64-17 bludgeoning of ECU.

Jackson has already shown off an impressive running ability this season, but he actually was not able to get much of anything going on that front against the Pirates. Instead, he just lit them on fire through the air. The 6-foot-1, 203-pounder was particularly lethal in the second half, when he fired off four of his five touchdown passes. Jackson should have an easy time with Old Dominion next weekend. We cannot wait to see how he performs in conference play once the Hokies hit the meat of their ACC schedule.

Virginia Tech redshirt freshman QB Joshua Jackson completed 15-of-26 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 101 yards on 11 attempts in Sunday's 31-24 win over West Virginia.

Jackson tossed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Cam Phillips with about two minutes remaining before the end of the third quarter to give the Hokies a 24-17 lead, but his most impressive work came as a runner. He found particular success on draws up the middle, scoring from five yards out in that fashion just before halftime and also busting a huge 46-yard run in the second half which almost went for a touchdown. On that play, he was upended and landed in scary fashion on his neck, but bounced up with the confidence of a young man. Virginia Tech was slow to start in this one but they looked noticeably sharper in the second half. They face cupcake Delaware next Saturday in what should be an easy win.

Virginia Tech redshirt freshman QB Joshua Jackson has been named the starter for the coming season.

Jackson (6'1/211) took the lead over JUCO transfer A.J. Bush and true freshman Hendon Hookier via a strong spring for the Hokies. He carried that momentum into camp and will now have the honor of taking over starter duties for the departed Jerod Evans. Jackson was a four-star recruit in the 2016 class and ranked as Rivals' No. 23 dual-threat quarterback prospect coming out of high school.

Virginia Tech redshirt freshman QB Josh Jackson exited spring practices with an edge over JUCO import A.J. Bush and true freshman Hendon Hookier for the starting job.

Jackson (6'1/211) drew some comps to ex-Hokies quarterback Tyrod Taylor during his impressive spring. He's competing for the right to replace Jerod Evans, who left early for the NFL, behind center. The Hokies also must replace standout receiver Isaiah Ford and star tight end Bucky Hodges.

Virginia Tech signed four-star QB Joshua Jackson.

Michigan native Jackson received interest from the likes of Air Force, Boston College and Bowling Green prior to National Signing Day, but he ultimately chose to join HC Justin Fuente's new Virginia Tech attack. The 6-foot-1, 203-pound dual-threat gunslinger ranks at No. 185 on the ESPN 300, with the outlet offering a comparison to the athletic profile of Ohio State's J.T. Barrett in that he can run, but he picks and chooses his spots. The Hokie faithful can look forward to monitoring Jackson's progress this spring, as he's already enrolled at the university. It's unlikely he wrests the starting job away from senior QB Brenden Motley, but at the very least he'll earn some nice seasoning.
