Texas junior WR Collin Johnson caught eight balls for 177 yards and a score in Saturday's 39-27 Big 12 Championship Game loss to Oklahoma.
With the performance, Johnson (6'6/220) has put himself into a position to log his first career 1,000-yard receiving season. He's posted a 65-945-7 line through 12 games (he missed the Texas Tech game with a knee injury suffered in practice). The true junior is going to have a difficult decision regarding his future after the season. "Johnson doesn't receive nearly enough love for how talented he is," The Athletic's Dane Brugler tweeted during the game. "Legit NFL prospect, not just because of his size, but because of his tempo and ball skills." Dec 1 - 5:00 PM

Texas junior WR Collin Johnson (knee) is taking part in warmups ahead of Saturday's game against Iowa State.

Johnson (6'6/220) has a brace on his knee, and according to the report how he responds during pregame will determine his status for the game. The junior wideout missed Texas' Nov. 10 game against Texas Tech as a result of the knee injury, which was suffered during practice just a couple days prior. Johnson is second on the team in receptions (50), receiving yards (675) and touchdown receptions (5).

The Austin-American Statesman's Brian Davis passes along that Texas junior WR Collin Johnson (knee) is "likely" to play against Iowa State on Saturday.

While this is encouraging news, we probably won't receive official word as to Johnson's status until closer to Saturday, perhaps not even until just before kickoff. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound junior is on the mend from a knee injury sustained in practice late last week, one which ultimately prevented him from playing in Saturday's win over Texas Tech.
Nov 15 - 7:36 PM

Texas junior WR Collin Johnson received an injection in his knee on Monday.

Johnson did not play against Texas Tech because of the knee injury that he suffered in Thursday's practice. It was believed that he was going to play against the Red Raiders, but the Longhorns held him out. We should know more about Johnson's status against Iowa State later in the week.
Nov 12 - 3:51 PM

Texas HC Tom Herman announced prior to Saturday's game against Texas Tech that junior WR Collin Johnson (knee) will not play.

Johnnson (6'6/220) suffered the knee injury during Thursday's practice, but the expectation at that time was that he would be ready to play Saturday. That clearly isn't the case, and as a result Texas will be without one of its most productive pass-catching options. With 50 receptions, 675 receiving yards and five touchdowns, Johnson ranks second on the team in both catches and receiving yards and tied for first in touchdown receptions.
Nov 10 - 5:42 PM

Despite injuring his knee in Thursday's practice, Texas junior WR Collin Johnson is expected to play in Saturday's game against Texas Tech.

Johnson (6'6/220) was on crutches at the end of Thursday's practice, but it would appear that those were merely a precautionary measure. The junior is being reevaluated on Friday and if there's any downturn in his playing-prognosis, we shall pass along word. For the campaign, Johnson has pieced together a respectable 50-675-5 receiving line across nine games played.

The Athletic's Dane Brugler writes that he's "floored" by the improvement of Texas junior WR Collin Johnson in 2018.

Brugler certainly saw positives from Johnson because of his size (6'6/220) and athleticism, but he -- like many others -- saw an inconsistent prospect during his sophomore campaign. "Johnson was the same imposing athlete with long-striding speed and a large catch radius, but his polished patterns and clean footwork were an unexpected sight," writes Brugler. "His routes showed tempo, timing and deception based on coverage reads, manipulating cornerbacks and creating separation out of his breaks." There may be some ceiling concerns with Johnson, but in a less-than-spectacular wide receiver class, the junior has a chance to be one of the first off the board should he give up his senior year.
Oct 29 - 9:18 PM

Texas junior WR Collin Johnson caught five passes for 65 scoreless yards in Saturday's 38-35 loss to Oklahoma State.

Johnson (6'6/220) was coming off his best game of his career -- he caught 11 passes for 132 yards against Baylor -- but he wasn't able to go crazy on Saturday. The junior receiver still made a few quality grabs and averaged 13 yards per reception on a night where the Longhorns' offense was mostly stagnant for the entire first half. With Texas still competing for a Big 12 title, Johnson will remain focused for a big finish down the stretch. He should have some opportunities next week against West Virginia.
Oct 28 - 12:23 AM

Texas junior WR Collin Johnson caught 11 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 23-17 win over Baylor.

This was the best game of Johnson's career. The 11 catches were easily a career-best (previously eight), and the 132 yards were the second-most he's ever had behind last year's USC game. Johnson was obviously extremely efficient on his 14 targets. They weren't freebies either, as Baylor's defense had an inspired performance Saturday. Johnson, who turned into Shane Buechele's security blanket, showed off his skill in contested situations, consistently coming down with the ball in traffic. In front of our eyes, he's starting to understand how to use his cheat-code 6'6/220 frame.
Oct 13 - 7:38 PM

Texas junior WR Collin Johnson caught four passes for 52 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 19-14 win over Kansas State.

Johnson (6'6/220) reeled in a four-yard touchdown pass from Sam Ehlinger just after the start of the second quarter, with that score giving Texas an early 14-0 advantage. Kansas State would put up a bit of a fight in the second half, but was unable to ultimately overcome their early deficit. The junior wideout has now caught touchdown passes in back-to-back contest and will carry a 24-351-3 receiving line into the Red River Shootout next weekend.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline listed Texas junior WR Collin Johnson as one of his "risers" for his play on Saturday against TCU.

Johnson was outstanding against the Horned Frogs, snagging seven receptions for 124 yards with a touchdown in the 31-16 upset victory. Pauline notes that he had Johnson as a "wait-and-see" player coming into the year, but he's starting to show the production that qualifies him as an NFL prospect. At 6-foot'6, 220-pounds, he has excellent size -- as Pauline notes -- and he's fast enough to stretch defenses as well. "Johnson needs to round out his game and increase his productivity," Pauline summarizes, "but possesses the physical skills to develop into a big-time receiver prospect."

Texas junior WR Collin Johnson snared seven passes for 124 yards and a touchdown in a 31-16 victory over TCU on Saturday.

This is the breakout game we’ve been waiting for. Johnson hasn’t been bad over the first three weeks, but he’s been mostly held in check compared to his impressive sophomore season. He wasn’t held in check today. Sam Ehlinger hit him on a 45 yard pass, but the most impressive plays was a brilliant diving catch from 31-yards out that gave the Longhorns their 17-16 lead. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound junior also made several players that set up scores and moved the chains in the upset victory. Another big game should be in stow for Johnson against Kansas State next Saturday.

Bleacher Report's Matt Miller prospects the Cowboys to take Texas junior WR Collin Johnson in his 2019 mock draft.

The Cowboys didn't address wide receiver until the third round when they selected Colorado State's Michael Gallup. While we're fans of the former CSU wideout, it's tough to say he solves their need for a big-play receiver. Johnson wouldn't come until next year, but he just might help cure some of those woes. "Johnson does need to improve upon his production from the last two seasons and prove to scouts he can run well enough to separate from NFL defenders," writes Miller, "but his size and hands are already getting buzzed about as teams prepare for the upcoming college season."

Texas sophomore WR Collin Johnson (illness) did not practice on Tuesday.

Johnson was out with a 100-degree fever, as was CB Devante Davis. Setting aside their playing status for Friday's game against Texas Tech -- to be determined -- the real concern for Texas, here, would be that Johnson and Davis spread this illness to others on the team. We've seen similar team-wide outbreaks before simply due to the close proximity inherent in a locker room.

Texas sophomore WR Collin Johnson caught just two passes for 27 yards in a 17-7 victory over Iowa State on Thursday.

Johnson (6'6/212) was coming off a massive 193 yard game against USC, but he wasn't able to produce anywhere near that kind of production on Saturday. Some of that was double-coverage, some of it was Texas's commitment to the run-game in what was an ugly offensive game for both clubs. Expect Johnson to get back on track against Kansas State.
