Texas Tech redshirt senior LB Dakota Allen (hand) is expected to play in Saturday's game against Oklahoma.

Allen will be playing with a broken hand, which was suffered in the Red Raiders' October 27 loss at Iowa State. In that game the redshirt senior linebacker, who has 68 total tackles on the season, accounted for a team-high 16 tackles (two solo, 14 assists) in that loss. Should Allen have any issues with the broken hand, Texas Tech would then turn to Riko Jeffers.

Pro Football Focus lists Texas Tech redshirt senior LB Dakota Allen as the top returning linebacker for 2019.

Allen (6'2/224) considered leaving for the draft after his excellent 2018 campaign, but he's back for the Red Raiders this fall, and it's a big return for the Texas Tech defense. Allen registered 102 tackles and two sacks in 2017, and he also picked off two passes while allowing just a 55 rating when targeted. PFF notes that he needs to do a better job of getting off blocks, but if he can, he has a chance to be one of the first defenders from the Big 12 selected in 2019.

Texas Tech redshirt junior LB Dakota Allen will return for his final season of eligibility in 2018.

Allen (6'2/224) is eligible to jump to the draft, but he'll instead return for one more run with the Red Raiders. The redshirt junior is coming off a campaign in which he registered 102 tackles (6.0 for loss), two sacks and two interceptions across 12 games played. It was a fantastic show-good season given his past travails -- Allen was kicked off the Texas Tech team in 2016 for a failure to uphold team standards and subsequently joined a JUCO program before rejoining the team over the past offseason.

Texas Tech redshirt junior LB Dakota Allen has been added to the Bednarik Award watch list.

The Bednarik is handed out annually to the best defensive player in college football. Allen -- who was booted from Texas Tech in the spring of 2016 for failing to uphold team standards before rejoining the program this winter following a successful JUCO rehabilitation -- has recorded 35 tackles (2.0 for loss), a sack and an interception in four games this season. The 6-foot-2, 224-pounder will try to add to that body of work when the Red Raiders tango with Kansas on Saturday.

Texas Tech dismissed redshirt sophomore LB Dakota Allen.

Per the university, Allen was dismissed for "failure to uphold student-athlete expectations." Further information could surface as to the exact reason for his dismissal in the coming days, but regardless of the "why," this is a legitimate blow to an annually shaky defense. The 6-foot-2, 224-pound redshirt sophomore led the Red Raiders with 87 tackles (6.0 for loss) in 2015 and was a three-star recruit out of high school.
