Stanford redshirt senior LB Joey Alfieri (hand) will not have a cast on his right hand for Saturday's game against California.
After missing five games due to the hand injury Alfieri made his return in Stanford's Nov. 24 win over UCLA, accounting for three tackles. The redshirt senior, who's been used at OLB when healthy, has racked up 31 total tackles and 3.5 sacks this season. Junior Jordan Fox should also see a solid amount of playing time Saturday afternoon. Sat, Dec 1, 2018 02:59:00 PM

Stanford was working out senior LB Joey Alfieri at inside linebacker this spring.

Stanford has extreme depth on the outside with Peter Kalambayi, Mike Tyler, Casey Toohill, and Curtis Robinson, giving the team room to play around with Alfieri's role. ESPN's David Lombardi writes that the 6-foot-3, 240-pounder's "trial run at inside linebacker has pleased the Stanford coaching staff," adding that "[t]hey now believe they have a Swiss Army knife-type player on the second level to complement an already formidable crew." This past season, Alfieri recorded 51 tackles (10.5 for loss), four sacks, two interceptions and a forced fumble.

Stanford junior LB Joey Alfieri was named to the Lott Impact Trophy preseason watch list.

A Portland native, Alfieri is first and foremost a smart cat. He was on the high school honor society and is a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete. The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder is also an NFL prospect who logged 40 tackles, 7 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks last season as a sophomore.
