Kentucky redshirt senior edge rusher Denzil Ware transferred to Jacksonville State as a graduate.
Ware (6'2/255) exits stage left from Kentucky having put together an active statistical body of work which included 157 total tackles (27.0 for loss), 13 sacks and a pair of fumbles forced. However, the edge rusher went out on a somewhat ignoble note, sitting out the Music City Bowl versus Northwestern in December while suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules. Jacksonville State makes for an interesting transfer home, as Ware could have transferred within the FBS without NCAA penalty due to his having already graduated. The drop from SEC competition to that of the Ohio Valley Conference is a steep one and the move will surely be interrogated when Ware hits the evaluating process in advance of the 2019 NFL Draft next spring. Kentucky redshirt senior edge rusher Denzil Ware will transfer as a graduate.

This is a huge loss for the Wildcats. Ware (6'2/255) ranked second on the team in TFL (9.0) and third in sacks (6.5) last year. He also had two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. For all that, he earned Phil Steele All-SEC Third Team honors. And that was despite being suspended for the Music City Bowl tilt against Northwestern for an unspecified violation of team rules. That suspension may have led to his abrupt departure. Ware is now eligible to play wherever he likes immediately as a graduate. A potential NFL-caliber talent who's already accrued 27 TFL in 35 games against SEC competition, Ware will be a valuable commodity on college football's free agent circuit.

Kentucky redshirt junior edge rusher Denzil Ware has been suspended for Friday's Music City Bowl tilt against Northwestern.

Ware (6'2/255) was suspended for an unspecified violation of team rules. He was involved in a scuffle during the season-finale against Louisville, but HC Mark Stoops did not divulge whether that was impetus for the punishment. It's going to be a major deficit for the Wildcats come Friday, as the redshirt junior has registered 48 tackles (9.5 for loss) and 6.5 sacks this season. Stoops would not comment on Ware's future with the team, but he's eligible to declare for the draft should he choose to do so.

Kentucky redshirt sophomore edge rusher Denzil Ware had 15 tackles and four sacks in the spring game.

The co-crown jewel of the celebrated 2014 recruiting class alongside QB Drew Barker, Ware is now ready to break out on the defense just as Barker is ready to take over the offense. Ware, a former four-star prospect, played sparingly last year (one sack) after redshirting in 2014. "At 6-foot-2 and 255 pounds, he has the size and the quickness to be a difference-maker," Alex Scarborough wrote.
