Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones said that he will not sit out the team's Independence Bowl matchup with Temple.
Jones has not officially declared for the draft, but The Athletic's Dane Brugler passed along at the end of November that he has heard such a declaration will be coming down the pike in time. Regardless of his eventual decision -- no timeline on that -- the redshirt junior said that he has never seriously considered sitting out Duke's bowl game. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound Blue Devils standout ranks as Mel Kiper Jr.'s No. 25 overall prospect in the draft-eligible pool. Dec 4 - 3:31 PM

An NFL scout told The Athletic's Dane Brugler that he believes Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones will enter the NFL draft.

"I haven’t seen him in person yet – and that’s a huge piece of the puzzle for me – so I don’t have a great feel for how high he’ll go," writes the scout. "I know he’s well-liked across the league and it sounds like he’ll be part of this draft class." Brugler notes that Jones has injury risk because of his past, and his supporting cast won't help him much in 2019. He also mentions that he's not a lock to be a first-rounder at this point, and a good season as a senior could see him raise his stock.
Nov 28 - 4:21 PM

Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones completed 17-of-36 passes for 145 yards, one touchdown and an interception in a 59-7 loss to Wake Forest on Saturday.

After starting the season 4-0, Duke sputtered the rest of the season, going 3-5. This was arguably Jones' worst game of the season, especially when considering the opponent. His 47.2 completion percentage is nearly 13 percent worse than his season average (60 percent). Despite struggling as of late, the Blue Devils remain bowl-eligible and finish the regular season with a 7-5 overall record and 3-5 conference record. Jones is a popular draft prospect in some circles with ideal size (6'5/220) but will need to put it all together on tape in Duke's upcoming bowl game.
Nov 24 - 6:33 PM

Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones completed 24-of-43 passes for 158 yards in a 35-6 loss to Clemson on Saturday.

A lot -- and we do mean a lot -- of dink-and-dunk -- from Jones on Saturday night. Outside of a 37-yard completion to Daniel Helm, everything that was completed was in front of the Clemson defense, and you just aren't going to beat the Tigers that way; the defense is too fast. After a brilliant showing against North Carolina, Jones came back to earth in a big way, and it's a tape that scouts are going to study. Often. He'll look to rebound next Saturday against Wake Forest.
Nov 17 - 10:38 PM

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. lists Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones 18th on his updated Draft Board.

Jones is now the second rated quarterback on the board, trailing only Oregon's Justin Herbert who ranks fourth. With rumors that Herbert could be heading back to school in 2019, that could make Jones the first quarterback taken, as Kiper notes. "The most impressive trait I've seen from Jones this season is his ability to buy time in the pocket and use his feet to get square and make a throw," writes Kiper. "He has thrown 26 interceptions in his three seasons as the starter, and he forces passes at times, but he has mostly cut down on the poor throws this season, as he has only six picks." Jones is a volatile prospect to many, but there's a real chance he goes high in 2019, assuming he gives up his redshirt senior season.

Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones recorded 72 yards after contact when rushing the ball in Saturday's 42-35 win over North Carolina.

Jones was uber-efficient on the ground and had 12 designed runs with one scramble. He forced three missed tackles on his way to 208 total yards, one touchdown, and six first downs. Jones has been an excellent dual-threat quarterback and has a chance to vault up quarterback ranks in a what's expected to be a weak 2019 draft class.
Nov 11 - 9:44 AM

Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones completed 31-of-54 passes for 361 yards with three touchdowns and one interception while adding 186 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries in Saturday's 42-35 win over North Carolina.

This is a game that will get some people chatting about Jones possibly being the QB1 in the 2019 NFL Draft, if he does declare. The redshirt junior was able to throw for the second-most passing yards in his career today, but it was his ability to break off big runs that was the difference maker in the close win over the Duke rival. Check out his 61-yard touchdown run on a QB draw in the link below. Despite suffering a broken collarbone earlier in the year, Jones has piled up 16 passing touchdowns (5.8 TD%) and nearly 2,000 yards in eight games. If he is able to have a good game against Clemson next week, Jones will be sitting close to the top of NFL teams' quarterback rankings depending on which quarterbacks declare.
Nov 10 - 5:21 PM

Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones completed 17-of-35 passes for 130 yards and an interception in Saturday's 20-12 win over Miami.

A major caveat with this one -- the weather was soggy and the field water-logged. Even so, this was a comedown of a showing by Jones, who had thrown for eight touchdowns over his previous three games entering action this weekend. He'll hope for better -- and drier -- times against North Carolina in Week 11.
Nov 3 - 10:49 PM

Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones completed 27-of-42 passes for 396 yards and four touchdowns in Saturday's 54-45 loss to Pitt.

Jones (6'5/220) was exceptional today, but Pitt was able to match him and the Panthers ended up with the win. The redshirt junior averaged nearly 10 yards per pass attempt, while throwing to touchdowns inside the five and two touchdowns from the other side of the 50. Jones got some help from Deon Jackson, who was running all over the field today, but NFL scouts will love this gutsy performance from Jones. After today's game, Jones has 13 passing touchdowns to just four interceptions. Duke will travel to Miami for their next game.
Oct 27 - 7:11 PM

Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones completed 22-of-40 passes for 240 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Saturday's 28-14 loss to Virginia.

The Blue Devils' suffered their second loss of the season this week, largely due to their offensive inefficiencies. Jones averaged a measly 6.0 yards per pass attempt and lead the team in rushing with 37 yards on 15 attempts (2.5 yards per carry). Jones' lone touchdown pass was from 46 yards out. The team's next-best rusher was Deon Jackson who recorded 17 yards on 11 carries. The Virginia defense truly stifled what has otherwise been a good offense (27.4 points per game). They will look to get back on track against Pittsburgh next week.

While Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones was recovering from a broken collarbone earlier this fall, his teammates 3D-printed him a brace.

A "living in the future now" story for your Friday. Jones fractured the collarbone on his non-throwing shoulder in Week 2, against Northwestern. Working in tandem with the training staff, C Clark Bulleit and LB Kevin Gehsmann used a 3D printer to create a brace for the quarterback which adhered to the staff's recommendations regarding the best approach to aid his recovery. The redshirt junior signal-caller ultimately sat out just two games before returning to action. Jones, Bulleit, Gehsmann and the rest of their Blue Devil buddies are currently 5-1 on the season.
Oct 19 - 6:49 PM

Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones completed 17-of-27 passes for 206 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's 28-14 win over Georgia Tech.

Jones (6'5/220) did most of his damage in the second half, specifically the third quarter. That's when he hit on all three of his touchdown passes to help the Blue Devils pull away. Duke would enter the fourth quarter holding a commanding 28-7 lead. Jones suffered a broken collarbone to his non-throwing shoulder in Week 2, but has had no health setbacks since making a speedy return. He has started each of the last two games without any apparent limitation. A showdown with Virginia shows next on the schedule.
Oct 13 - 3:43 PM

Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones completed 23-of-35 passes for 226 yards and one touchdown with one interception in Saturday's 31-14 loss to Virginia Tech.

Jones (6'5/220) was surprisingly active just weeks after breaking his non-throwing collarbone, so the mediocre showing gets excused. Virginia Tech was motivated to put last week's loss to Old Dominion behind them and Duke's offensive line struggled to give Jones time to pass. It could take a few weeks for Jones to round into form, but it's a good sign for Duke that he was able to return so quickly from an injury known to give quarterbacks trouble. Jones gets a well timed bye this week, and then the Blue Devils return to play Georgia Tech on October 13th.
Sep 29 - 10:26 PM

Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones (collarbone) will start Saturday's game against Virginia Tech.

Jones (6'5/220) broke his collarbone in Week 2, against Northwestern. He made rapid progress in his rehab after sustaining the tough break, with HC David Cutcliffe saying that the redshirt junior's recovery has "amazed" the medical staff. Quentin Harris filled in for two games with Jones out, but will now fall back into a backup role.
Sep 29 - 11:12 AM

Duke redshirt junior QB Daniel Jones has progressed quicker than expected since suffering a broken collarbone and, if cleared medically, might play in Saturday's game against Virginia Tech.

Jones still has to be cleared medically, but he has been practicing with the team. "We are getting some complete medical information on Daniel," Duke HC David Cutcliffe said Thursday when asked about his starting QB's status. Jones, who was back on the practice field ten days after undergoing surgery, has been splitting reps in practice with Quentin Harris and Chris Katrenick.
