Mississippi State redshirt senior QB Nick Fitzgerald completed 14-of-31 passes for 152 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions while rushing for 103 yards and a touchdown in Tuesday's 27-22 loss to Iowa in the Outback Bowl.
Fitzgerald did his typical thing as a runner in this one -- Tuesday's performance was his seventh 100-yard performance on the ground for the campaign -- but likewise did his typical thing as a passer. Mississippi State had several opportunities for a bigger offensive output, to no avail. The redshirt senior will now be heading into the NFL Draft evaluation process. As intriguing as the 6-foot-5, 230-pounder might be due to his ability on the ground, he is not an NFL passer at this point in his development. Even so, Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline stamps him with a fourth-round grade for the spring. That feels a bit rich for our blood. Jan 1 - 3:29 PM

Mississippi State redshirt senior QB Nick Fitzgerald completed 11-of-18 passes for 111 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Saturday's 35-3 win at Mississippi.

Fitzgerald also ran 18 times for a game-high 117 yards and two touchdowns, as the Bulldogs rumbled for 309 yards (6.1 yards per carry) with four total scores on the ground. The Bulldogs (8-4, 4-4) wrapped up their regular season with a rout of their rivals and now will wait to learn of their destination for a bowl game. The Bulldogs could be headed for one of the early New Year's Day bowl games with SEC tie-ins like the Citrus or Outback Bowls.

Mississippi State redshirt senior QB Nick Fitzgerald completed 9-of-14 passes for 127 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 85 yards with a score in a 52-6 rout of Arkansas on Saturday.

Fitzgerald bounced back very nicely after his struggles against Alabama, and while it's important to note how much worse Arkansas is than Alabama, it was still a strong effort in the quarterback's final home game. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound quarterback avoided mistakes, delivered the football on time, and showed off his impressive power running at the same time. If we would have seen this version of Fitzgerald all year, there's no way Mississippi State loses four games. The Egg Bowl against Mississippi closes out the year for the Bulldogs on Thursday.

Mississippi State redshirt senior QB Nick Fitzgerald completed 11-of-20 passes for 125 yards in a 24-0 loss to Alabama on Saturday.

First of all, goodness gracious this Alabama defense is ridiculous. Now that we got that away, Fitzgerald did not have a great game against the Tide, and a quarterback we routinely see pick up triple-digits in the run game had negative 14 on Saturday, even with a gain of 11. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound signal-caller has had tremendous production at times, but there have been far too many games like this; particularly this year. He'll look to rebound against a much easier opponent in Arkansas.

Mississippi State redshirt senior QB Nick Fitzgerald completed 17-of-28 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 107 yards in Saturday's 45-3 win over Louisiana Tech.

Fitzgerald (6'5/230) came out firing, tossing three of his four touchdown passes in the first quarter before finishing up with his fourth and final scoring toss in the second quarter. Mississippi State hit the locker room holding a 31-3 lead. The redshirt senior signal-caller had just three previous contests of multiple touchdown passes entering the weekend. While this was a nice performance against an outclassed team, we are not expecting Fitzgerald to do much of anything against Alabama next weekend.

Mississippi State redshirt senior QB Nick Fitzgerald completed 14-of-22 passes for 241 yards with two touchdowns and ran for 88 yards and two scores in a 28-13 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday.

What a great time for the Bulldogs for Fitzgerald (6'5/235) to have his best passing game of the season, and one of his best as a member of the Bulldogs. He's certainly had better and bigger totals running and throwing the football, but considering the situation, this was huge, and a nice reminder of how productive he's been over his career. He punctuated this victory with a 76-yard scamper to make it 28-13 late in the fourth quarter. If Fitzgerald plays like this the rest of the year, Mississippi State will be tough to beat. They get a break from conference play next Saturday against Louisiana Tech.

Mississippi State senior QB Nick Fitzgerald completed 8-of-24 passes for 59 yards and four interceptions while rushing for 131 yards on 23 attempts in Saturday's 19-3 loss to LSU.

We got the full Nick Fitzgerald Experience on Saturday evening, with the quarterback showing off plenty of good stuff on the ground while proving essentially incapable of doing anything right as a passer. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound has now failed to throw for 100 yards in any of his last three games. He'll try to get over that low, low bar against Texas A&M next weekend.

Mississippi State senior QB Nick Fitzgerald rushed for 195 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 23-9 win over No. 8 Auburn.

Fitzgerald also completed 9-of-17 for 69 passing yards with one interception, but that's irrelevant since he nearly rushed for 200 yards with a pair of rushing touchdowns. The senior broke the SEC career record for most rushing yards by a quarterback that was formerly held by a guy named Tim Tebow. Fitzgerald (6'3/235) won't ever be a consistent passer, but his rushing ability is an unique trait and it can be enough for Mississippi State to beat high quality teams like Auburn. The Bulldogs get another tough matchup after this week's bye when they take on the LSU Tigers on October 20th.

Mississippi State senior QB Nick Fitzgerald completed just 11-of-26 passes for 98 yards and ran for just 32 yards on 20 carries in a 13-6 loss to Florida on Saturday.

You can choose to give credit to the Florida and Mississippi State defenses, or you can choose to admit that these are bad offensive football teams. The answer is probably somewhere in between. In an ugly game, Fitzgerald struggled to get the ball downfield, and his accuracy was once again a problem in a loss for the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound quarterback has completed over 50 percent of his passes just once this season, and he couldn't compensate with the run game. Another tough test comes next Saturday against Auburn.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline lists Mississippi State senior QB Nick Fitzgerald as a player whose stock is sliding after his performance in Week 4.

Fitzgerald was awful against Kentucky on Saturday, completing just 16-of-32 passes without a touchdown for 145 yards with a pick. That leads to a QBR rating of 26.1, which not what you're looking for. As Pauline bluntly -- but accurately -- puts it: "The bottom line is that Fitzgerald has shown little improvement as a passer since his sophomore season and gives little reason to believe there will be much progress in the future." He may need to change positions if he's going to play in the NFL.

Mississippi State redshirt senior QB Nick Fitzgerald completed 16-of-32 passes for 145 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 28-7 loss at Kentucky and he rushed for one score.

The No. 14 Bulldogs hit the road for Lexington and were unable to deal the Wildcats their first loss of the season. Kentucky's defense was surprisingly stout, limiting Mississippi State to just the one Fitzgerald rushing score. It was an especially surprising result considering Mississippi State entered the game averaging 50.0 points per game. The Bulldogs will look to bounce back next Saturday at home against old coach Dan Mullen and the Florida Gators.

Mississippi State redshirt senior QB Nick Fitzgerald passed for 243 yards on 14-of-21 passes for two scores and ran for 107 yards and four scores in a 56-10 victory over Louisiana on Saturday.

We can't imagine how many yards Fitzgerald would have gone for if this game was competitive. He once again was impressive running the read-option, but this time, he was much more accurate throwing the football than he was against Kansas State. He was on time on most of his throws, and the 6-foot-5, 230-pound quarterback showed of his speed and ability to break tackles all night. If Fitzgerald plays like this all season, the Bulldogs are going to be tough to beat. A showdown with Kentucky comes next Saturday.
Sat, Sep 15, 2018 10:42:00 PM

Mississippi State redshirt senior QB Nick Fitzgerald went 11-for-27 for 154 yards, two touchdowns and an interception and ran for 159 yards in Saturday's 31-10 win over Kansas State.

In his return from a one-game suspension, Fitzgerald (6'5/230) and Kylin Hill were utterly devastating on the read-option, consistently shredding the KSU defense (Hill ran for 211 yards as the Bulldogs rolled up 372 on the ground). Mississippi State's run game is going to be extremely tough to slow down this year. If we're going to nitpick, we'll just say that Fitzgerald still has a long way to go in the pocket. His accuracy was scattershot throughout the afternoon, despite some wide-open throwing windows. The Bulldogs will become truly scary if Joe Moorhead can turn Fitzgerald into a plus thrower in the pocket.

Mississippi State redshirt senior QB Nick Fitzgerald has been reinstated after serving a one-game suspension.

Fitzgerald (6'5/230) sat out the team's opener against Stephen F. Austin as punishment for an undisclosed violation of team rules which occurred in March. While Keytaon Thompson started in his place on Saturday and put up nice numbers as both a passer and a runner, Fitzgerald is expected to resume starting duties now that he's been reinstated. Mississippi State tangoes with Kansas State on Saturday.

Mississippi State HC Joe Moorhead announced that redshirt senior QB Nick Fitzgerald's suspension is from a violation of team rules in March.

It sounds like this will be a one-game suspension for Fitzgerald, and fortunately for the Bulldogs, it comes against an FCS program in Stephen F. Austin. With Fitzgerald out, Keytaon Thompson will be under center in the season opener. We'll likely see the senior signal-caller back as the starter against Kansas State.
