Toledo WR Cody Thompson accepted an invitation to the 2019 NFL Draft Combine.
No surprise, but it's still nice to see. Thompson was a very productive wideout for the Rockets, and he's going to get a chance to play in the East-West Shrine Game in January. He was a member of Bruce Feldman of The Athletic's "Freak List" because of his 38-inch vertical and ability to do 22 bench press reps of 225 pounds. Don't be surprised if Thompson is one of the stars of the combine at the wideout position. Mon, Dec 31, 2018 02:38:00 PM

The Athletic's Bruce Feldman notes that Toledo redshirt senior WR Cody Thompson has a 38-inch vertical and can bench press 22 reps at 225 pounds.

Thompson (6'1/205) made Feldman's annual "Freaks List" that highlights the most athletic college football players of the year. Feldman called Thompson "strong and explosive" and he's expected to raise his draft stock with his Combine results. As a redshirt senior, Thompson caught 48 passes for 647 yards (13.5 YPR) and 10 touchdowns. Up next for Thompson is the East-West Shrine Game.

Toledo redshirt senior WR Cody Thompson caught five passes for 55 yards in Friday's 35-32 bowl loss to FIU.

Thompson (6'1/205) was largely forgettable in windy conditions in the Bahamas, but it will not be the last time we hear about him. The redshirt senior has already accepted an invite to the East-West Shrine Game this season despite battling health issues. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline called Thompson a sleeper in the 2019 draft, but he needs to perform well in the Shrine Game and during workouts/medicals to confirm his Day 3 status.

Toledo redshirt senior WR Cody Thompson accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game.

Thompson has battled health issues, but when he's been able to play, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound wideout has performed well. He scored 10 touchdowns this year on "just" 43 receptions, and he had a 64/1,269/11 line in his redshirt sophomore season with Toledo. With his size and quality hands, he could be a red-zone threat, but he'll have to test well if he's going to get the opportunity at the highest level.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline lists Toledo senior WR Cody Thompson as a sleeper for the 2019 draft.

Thompson picked up eight receptions for 110 yards for the Rockets on Wednesday, and he's been consistently putting up high reception totals all year for Toledo; even with some quarterback issues limiting the offense. "Thompson offers nice size (6-foot-1.5 and 205 pounds), consistent hands and great football intellect," Pauline writes. "If there are no medical red flags, I believe he will slide into the later rounds and become a productive fifth receiver at the next level."

Toledo redshirt senior WR Cody Thompson caught eight passes for 110 yards in Wednesday's 38-15 loss to NIU.

With starting quarterback Mitchell Guadagni unable to play in this one due to a shoulder injury, the Toledo offense proved mostly punch-less with backup Eli Peters drawing the start. Thompson (6'2/205) was able to cobble together a fine performance nonetheless. This was his first game over 100 yards receiving in 2018. For the campaign as a whole, the redshirt senior now owns a 39-535-10 receiving line across 10 games played. Toledo will wrap the regular season with contests against Kent State and Central Michigan.

Toledo redshirt senior WR Cody Thompson caught six passes for 63 yards and three touchdowns in Thursday's 51-24 win over West Virginia.

Thompson (6'2/205) caught touchdowns in the first, third and fourth quarters of Thursday's comfortable win. This was the redshirt senior's second three-touchdown game of the campaign, and he's up to nine scores for the campaign. Most encouragingly, he has not had to miss time due to injury. A year ago, a broken leg limited his season to just five games played. Thompson and crew will play Ball State in Week 10.

Toledo redshirt senior WR Cody Thompson caught four passes for 57 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's 63-44 win over Nevada.

His touchdowns were from 20, 19, and four yards out with one coming from WR Desmond Phillips. Interestingly enough, Thompson has had 3+ touchdowns on two other occasions in his career including three against Tulsa in 2017 and four against Central Michigan in 2016. Thompson was playing a massive role in the five games prior to his injury in 2017 (28-537-4) and looks to have reclaimed his position as the No. 1 WR for his final season. The Rockets will square off with Fresno State on the road next.

Toledo redshirt senior WR Cody Thompson (leg) was limited in spring practices.

Thompson (6'2/200) is returning after breaking his ankle in October of last year. If he hadn't have broken that leg, his eligibility would be exhausted, but the NCAA rubber-stamped Thompson's medical hardship waiver. Toledo is treating him with kid gloves for now. "He’s done a really good job," HC Jason Candle said back in March. "He’s able to participate in some things, but we’re going to be smart with him. It’s hard to hold him back because he’s really, truly a competitor and wants to be out there and rush everything. But we’ll be smart with him and get him back when he needs to be." Thompson posted a 64-1,269-11 line in 2016 and will be in line for huge numbers again in 2018, assuming his body complies.

Toledo senior WR Cody Thompson will exercise his fifth year of eligibility and return to the team for the 2018 season.

Thompson (6'2/200) exploded to the tune of 64 catches for 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2016. He was on his way to another stellar season this year, but a broken leg sustained in a win over Eastern Michigan on Oct. 7 sidelined him for the remainder of the campaign. He opened the current season with four consecutive 100-yard showings before that leg injury cut matters short.

Toledo senior WR Cody Thompson suffered a broken leg in Saturday's win over Eastern Michigan.

Thompson (6'2/200) sustained the broken leg during Toledo's first offensive drive on Saturday. The injury will likely keep him out for the remainder of the season. It's an absolutely brutal loss for the Rockets, as the senior had been working to a sharp 28-537-4 receiving line prior to going down injured. Diontae Johnson, Jon'Vea Johnson and Danzel McKinley will see the bulk of targets moving forward with Thompson sidelined for potentially the remainder of the campaign.

Toledo senior WR Cody Thompson caught nine passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns in a 54-51 victory over Tulsa on Saturday.

When you catch four passes for 142 yards and two scores like Diontae Thompson did on Saturday and you aren't the leading wideout on your own team, you know someone went off. The other Thompson did just that. The 6-foot-2 wideout scored 11 times last year, so we knew he was no stranger to the end zone. His first score was a big one, as the 28-yarder brought the Rockets back to within two scores at 28-14 with just seven seconds left in the first half. He hauled in two scores in the third quarter, an 81-yarder from Logan Woodside to make it 31-28, and a 15-yarder to make it 34-31. Toledo throws the ball a lot, and Thompson's size, speed and opportunity should allow him to be among the FBS leaders in plenty of receiving categories.

Toledo senior WR Cody Thompson caught five passes for 112 yards on Thursday in Toledo's 47-13 victory over Elon.

Thompson (6'2/200 pounds) didn't get in the end zone -- something he did 11 times last year -- which is a minor upset against an FCS school. He's a ridiculous athlete who plays in a pass-happy offense, so you shouldn't expect him to be shutout in that area too often. He'll get another chance to put up big numbers next Saturday against Nevada.

Toledo senior WR Cody Thompson checked in at No. 38 on Bruce Feldman's annual "Freaks List."

Thompson benches 350 pounds and has a vertical jump of 37 inches. He posted a 64-1,269-11 line last year and boasts a 3.7 GPA in the classroom.

Toledo senior WR Cody Thompson is "dependable but has average size for a possession wide out," writes Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline.

Though lacking in NFL upside, Thompson (6'2/200) is a monster in Toledo's explosive offense. He posted a 64-1,269-11 line last year and will be one of college football's most productive receivers again in 2017.
