Texas senior LB Gary Johnson is expected to be available for the Big 12 Championship Game after serving a one-game suspension.
Johnson entered this week as Texas' leader in tackles, so his absence was noticeable in the Longhorns' 24-17 win over Kansas. The senior linebacker being available for the Big 12 title game would be welcome news for the Longhorns, as they'll be taking on a yet to be determined team that will have more offensive talent than the Jayhawks. Date:

Texas senior LB Gary Johnson hill not play on Saturday against Kansas due to a violation of team rules.

No further details are given. Johnson (6'2/225) is the Longhorns' leading tackler, so this is obviously a big loss for Texas in their regular season finale against the Jayhawks. It sounds like he'll be available for the Big 12 championship game; a game that the Longhorns will play in if they beat Kansas on Saturday.

Texas senior LB Gary Johnson is expected to miss six weeks with a strained groin.

Johnson (6'2/225) will miss the rest of spring practice while rehabbing, but should be ready for further action this summer barring a setback. The four-star JUCO linebacker joined Texas last winter and went on to start seven games while appearing in all 13 of the team's contests. In that space, the then-junior registered 57 tackles (6.0 for loss) and a pair of sacks. Longhorns HC Tom Herman said that Johnson has "really (been) coming along as a leader" this offseason.

Texas received a verbal commitment from four-star 2017 JUCO LB Gary Johnson.

Johnson took an official visit to Texas last weekend, one which helped to sway him over to HC Tom Herman's side. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder will have three seasons to play two at Texas. Rivals ranks Johnson as the No. 4 JUCO prospect in the 2017 class, while the ESPN JC50 notes that former Alabama pledge is "a premium LB prospect with top-level speed, strength and explosiveness." Johnson is the ninth player to commit to Texas since Herman took over for Charlie Strong.
