South Carolina junior DT Javon Kinlaw will return to school for the 2019 season.
Kinlaw (6'6/305) is eligible to declare for the draft, but he opted for one more run with the Gamecocks instead. The junior defensive tackle logged 38 tackles (10.0 for loss) and 4.5 sacks for the 2018 campaign. That sack mark led the team. His return will be a welcome one for a South Carolina team which has a fair number of underclassmen in the front seven. Dec 4 - 4:16 PM

Following Saturday's win over Vanderbilt, South Carolina HC Will Muschamp said that junior DT Javon Kinlaw was "fine" after leaving the game with an apparent right foot injury.

Kinlaw being OK is good news for the Gamecocks, who are already without DE D.J. Wonnum due to a foot injury. The junior DT proved to be a very difficult matchup for Vanderbilt, and he has the potential to be a handful for South Carolina's remaining opponents as well.

South Carolina junior DT Javon Kinlaw left Saturday's game against Vanderbilt with an apparent right leg injury.

Kinlaw was pulled down by a Vanderbilt offensive lineman while rushing the passer, which resulted in both a holding call and the defensive tackle's injury. Kinlaw, given his talent and South Carolina's depth issues on the defensive line, is a player the Gamecocks cannot afford to lose for an extended period of time. South Carolina was already without DE D.J. Wonnum, who's expected to miss a month due to a foot injury.

SEC Country's Daniel Sweeney writes that South Carolina sophomore DL Javon Kinlaw "has the ability to transform the South Carolina defens[e]."

Kinlaw signed with South Carolina out of the JUCO ranks as part of the Gamecocks' 2017 class. 247Sports' ranked him as the No. 2 strong-side defensive end JUCO prospect in the cycle. Sweeney writes that the 6-foot-6, 305-pounder's "impact could be far reaching," as (assuming a smooth transition to FBS play) he should help ease the pressure on both the linebacking corp and the secondary.

South Carolina signed JUCO sophomore DL Javon Kinlaw.

On ESPN, Will Muschamp mentioned that Kinlaw added much-needed beef to South Carolina's line. Kinlaw is the No. 11-ranked junior college prospect in the country and a former Army All-American. The 6-foot-6, 305-pound defensive lineman chose the Gamecocks over Alabama, Tennessee, Louisville and Maryland. 247Sports lists Kinlaw as the No. 2 strong-side DE in the class.
