Arizona HC Kevin Sumlin is uncertain when sophomore RB Gary Brightwell (ankle) will be able to play again.
Brightwell (6'2/206) dinged up his ankle in a blowout win over Oregon in Week 9 and was not available for Friday's win over Colorado. While none of this is encouraging, Arizona is off on their bye week as of current and will not play again until Nov. 17, affording the sophomore back a fair amount of time to rest up before the Wildcats have their next contest, against Washington State. Arizona sophomore RB Gary Brightwell (ankle) has been ruled out for Friday's game against Colorado.

Brightwell (6'2/206) picked up an ankle injury in the victory over Oregon in the second quarter, and he was considered doubtful, so this isn't a big surprise. With Brightwell out, Nathan Tilford is listed as the third tailback behind J.J. Taylor and Anthony Mariscal.

Arizona sophomore RB Gary Brightwell (ankle) should be considered doubtful for Friday's game against Colorado.

Brightwell (6'1/206) injured his left ankle in the second quarter of last Saturday's blowout of Oregon. Should he be unable to suit up for action on Friday, it would serve as a major thinning of depth for Arizona. In eight games this season, Brightwell has rushed for 479 yards (5.7 YPC) and two touchdowns while working behind starter J.J. Taylor.

Arizona sophomore RB Gary Brightwell (ankle) left Saturday's 44-15 victory against Oregon in the second quarter due to a left ankle injury, and he finished just 31 yards on seven carries.

Brightwell was injured on a second quarter carry and he was unable to return to the game. J.J. Taylor picked up the slack and ran wild (30-212-2) with Brightwell sidelined. It was a missed opportunity for Brightwell, as Arizona rolled up 276 rushing yards on 51 carries for 5.4 yards per tote. His status for Friday's home game against Colorado is uncertain, but Anthony Mariscal would likely back up Taylor if Brightwell is unavailable in six days.
Oct 28 - 2:35 AM

Arizona sophomore RB Gary Brightwell carried 15 times for 121 yards in Saturday's 31-30 loss at UCLA.

It was Brightwell's first triple-digit yardage total since the Wildcats ran roughshod over Oregon State in Corvallis back on Sept. 22. He has been held out of the end zone in three consecutive outings, but the sophomore from Pennsylvania has proven to be a solid complement to J.J. Taylor in the Arizona backfield. The Wildcats will host an angry Oregon team next weekend in Tucson.
Oct 21 - 2:12 AM

Arizona sophomore RB Gary Brightwell is listed second on the depth chart for Saturday's contest with BYU.

Brightwell has apparently beaten out Nathan Tilford and Anthony Mariscal to be the back behind JJ Taylor. He made the switch from wide receiver to running back this offseason, but he was a tailback in high school, and the 5-foot-11, 190-pound sophomore can make plays out of the backfield with his legs and also should be a reliable receiver. Expect to see him get plenty of touches against the Cougars -- and for the remainder of the year.
Aug 30 - 8:32 PM

After serving mostly as a receiver in 2017, Arizona sophomore Gary Brightwell is listed as a running back on the team's 2018 roster.

Brightwell (5'11/190) did not log a catch during the most recent campaign, nor did he receive a carry. The versatile athlete was a three-star running back coming out of high school and it looks like he'll at least open the spring working primarily in that capacity. What role, specifically, Brightwell might have in 2018 will sort itself out over the course of the coming months.
Feb 16 - 3:02 PM

Arizona freshman RB/WR Gary Brightwell will be used mostly as a receiver this season.

Brightwell (5'11/190) is going to see most of his work out of the slot with the Wildcats. He initially signed on with them as a three-star running back in February. Arizona HC Rich Rodriguez indicated that he will still probably see some carries this season.

Arizona signed three-star RB Gary Brightwell.

He flipped from Temple. The Wildcats sure needed the depth after what happened last year. Orlando Bradford was dismissed, Nick Wilson battled injuries again, and J.J. Taylor broke his ankle. Brightwell figures to redshirt with Wilson, Taylor and four-star recruit Nathan Tilford above him on the depth chart.
