Tulane redshirt senior WR Freddy Canteen (shoulder) will miss the season.
Tulane coach Willie Fritz said the shoulder injury occurred during Friday's practice. "Just diving for a ball," Fritz said. "Nothing that you don't do 100 times a week with different guys on the team." It's a devastating blow for Canteen, and the newest twist in his winding collegiate journey. A former member of Michigan and Notre Dame, Canteen missed most of last season with an injury to the same shoulder. Canteen could apply for the sixth year of eligibility. With his injury history, he'd seem to have a good shot. In the meantime, senior Terren Encalade (39 catches, 730 yards, four touchdowns last season) and junior Darnell Mooney (34-599-4) will continue to see most of the targets in Tulane's triple-option offense. Notre Dame redshirt senior WR Freddy Canteen transferred to Tulane as a graduate.

This is Canteen's second transfer after initially signing with Michigan as a four-star recruit in the 2014 class. His first move came in a transfer to Notre Dame two winters ago. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder managed to play in just three games last season before a torn labrum knocked him out for the campaign. He will have at least one year of immediate eligibility with Tulane starting this season, but could net an additional year on top of that should the NCAA approve his medical hardship waiver.

Notre Dame redshirt senior WR Freddy Canteen will transfer as a graduate.

Canteen (6'1/185) has already transferred as a graduate once, saying farewell to Michigan and hello to Notre Dame last winter. His lone year with the Irish was a scuttled one, as a torn labrum sustained in September knocked him out for the remainder after just three games played. Canteen noted in his Twitter transfer post that Notre Dame did not offer the graduate degree he was hoping to attain, hence a major reason for his decision to leave the program. He's made minimal statistical contribution during his collegiate career to date, but does still have two years eligibility remaining in which he'll try to make his mark at a new home.

Notre Dame redshirt junior WR Freddy Canteen will miss the remainder of the season with a torn labrum.

Canteen is a graduate transfer from Michigan and played in tow games for the Irish, totaling just one catch for seven yards. This likely ends his collegiate career unless a redshirt year is granted.

Notre Dame redshirt junior WR Freddy Canteen was listed as a starter in the Irish's opening depth chart against Temple on Saturday.

A graduate transfer from Michigan, Canteen (6'0/194) ended up beating Chase Claypool, Miles Boykin and approximately 72 other receivers to earn the starting spot. He didn't do much in his two years with the Wolverines, but he does have some speed, and he could see some one-on-one coverage with Equanimeous St. Brown getting plenty of double coverage.

Michigan graduate WR Freddy Canteen transferred to Notre Dame.

Canteen will have two years of eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately in 2017 as a graduate transfer. That is, if Canteen is healthy enough to play. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder missed the 2016 season after undergoing shoulder surgery. In his two healthy seasons with the Wolverines, he caught a combined six passes for 22 yards and a touchdown.
