Auburn redshirt senior DT Dontavius Russell accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl.
Russell plays in the middle of the Auburn defensive line, and while it was a disappointing season for the Tigers (7-5), Russell still flashes the ability to be an anchor. He also has shown some ability to get to the quarterback, as the 6-foot-3, 320-pound defender registered three sacks as a junior. It's a loaded defensive tackle field, but Russell could go in the first 100 picks if he tests well -- starting with the Senior Bowl. Nov 26 - 9:30 PM

ESPN's Alex Scarborough lists Auburn redshirt senior DT Dontavius Russell as the most underrated player on the Tigers for 2018.

As Scarborough notes, it's tough for a 6-foot-3, 320-pound defensive tackle to be "underrated," but the loaded Auburn line sometimes leaves Russell under-looked. "Still, the senior nose guard deserves credit not just for anchoring one of the best lines in the country, but also doing his fair share of getting after it with 6.5 tackles for loss and three sacks last season," writes Scarborough. Another strong season could see Russell go (relatively) early come draft time.

Auburn redshirt senior DT Dontavius Russell sustained a dislocated thumb during a recent car crash.

Russell (6'3/210) posted a picture of the wreck to Instagram, with an Auburn spokesman confirming that the accident happened last weekend. The injury figures to sideline the defensive tackle for at least a portion of spring practice. The Tigers are currently on break until March 20. Russell could have jumped for the NFL Draft earlier this winter, but opted instead to return for one more run in the SEC. This past season, he registered 46 tackles (6.5 for loss), three sacks and a forced fumble. He'll be a starter for the upcoming campaign so long as he's healthy.

An NFL area scout mentioned Auburn redshirt junior DT Dontavius Russell as a potential first-round talent in a conversation with Walter Football's Charlie Campbell.

This is the first Rd. 1 buzz we've heard around Russell. Russell heads into his junior campaign as a two-year starter at defensive tackle. In his 26 appearances (23 starts), he's posted 71 career tackles. The former four-star recruit has been on the SEC Academic Honor Roll in all three of his years on campus.
