Iowa State redshirt junior WR Hakeem Butler said after Saturday's win over Drake that he would seek feedback regarding his NFL draft prospects.
It's important to note here that Butler said that he has yet to make a decision one way or another regarding the NFL. The redshirt junior, who caught four passes for 67 yards Saturday, finished the regular season with a stat line of 47/1,059/9. ESPN drafy analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has Butler ranked seventh on his list of the top draft-eligible wide receivers. Dec 1 - 3:47 PM

Iowa State redshirt junior WR Hakeem Butler brought in four catches for 67 yards in Saturday's 27-24 win over Drake.

The Cyclones' passing offense was kept quiet for most of the afternoon. In fact, QB Brock Purdy was yanked briefly for Kyle Kempt before returning. Butler finishes an eye-opening breakout regular season with a 51-1126-9 receiving line. The 8-4 Cyclones will receive their bowl assignment in the next 24 hours.
Dec 1 - 3:13 PM

Iowa State redshirt junior WR Hakeem Butler brought in five catches for 144 yards and a touchdown in a 42-38 victory over Kansas State on Saturday.

Butler and David Montgomery are the stars of the Iowa State offense, and they showed why on Saturday. Butler has gone over the hundred-yard mark often this year -- this was the fifth time in Iowa State's 11 games, and he also went over the thousand-yard barrier for the first time. Butler could be one of the first wideouts off the board if he enters the draft -- and tests well -- but he has a chance to add to his regular season mark next Saturday against Drake.
Nov 24 - 10:38 PM

Iowa State redshirt junior WR Hakeem Butler caught six passes for 99 yards in Saturday's 24-10 loss to Texas.

While Butler had himself a sturdy enough game, the Longhorns dominated from start-to-finish, limiting the Cyclones to just 204 yards of total offense. For the season writ large, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound junior has caught 42 passes for 915 yards and eight touchdowns over the course of 10 games played. Upcoming, Iowa State will take on Kansas State and Incarnate Word to close out the regular season.
Nov 17 - 11:16 PM

Iowa State redshirt junior WR Hakeem Butler caught just three passes for 25 yards in Saturday's 28-14 win over Baylor.

This is a largely forgettable game for Butler (6'6/225), but he's done enough recently that we can give him a pass for this one. For example, Butler blew up for 164 yards and two touchdowns on just two receptions just last week. The NFL will value his large frame and explosive plays, but it will be nice to see him show out against Kansas State next week.
Nov 10 - 8:16 PM

Per Pro Football Focus, Iowa State redshirt junior WR Hakeem Butler contributed a 153.3 passer rating when targeted in Saturday's game against Kansas.

He averaged a whopping 32.8 yards per reception and 6.07 yards per route run on his way to a blowup 6/164/2 game. He was their main form of offense in this one and has the potential to be a high draft back come 2019. Butler has now increased his yardage total in four straight weeks, going over 100 yards the past three weeks. He'll look to add to this against Baylor next week.
Nov 4 - 10:11 AM

Iowa State redshirt junior WR Hakeem Butler caught five passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 27-3 win over Kansas.

This game was entirely nondescript outside of Butler, who took things into his own hands as Iowa State's only consistent source of offense. One play in particular stood out. With ISU at midfield in the first quarter, QB Brock Purdy chucked one up to Butler in single coverage. The ball was under-thrown, coming down around the 16. Butler slowed his momentum, elevated over the trailing cornerback, and snagged the ball. The defender grabbed his arm upon landing and Butler simply threw him aside like he was a child. Butler then outraced him to the end zone, executing a front flip to paydirt. This description doesn't do the play justice, so we've linked to it below. Butler will be a first-round pick if he tests well. Everything else is there, including a ridiculous 6'6/225 frame, plus-plus jump-ball ability and sticky mitts in contested situations.
Nov 3 - 3:29 PM

Iowa State redshirt junior WR Hakeem Butler caught six passes for 107 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 30-14 upset of West Virginia.

Butler (6'6/225) and true frosh QB Brock Purdy had a nice connection working on Saturday evening. The redshirt junior wideout made a little four-yard scoring grab near the end of the first quarter before going on to finish with his second 100-yard game of the campaign. Purdy seems to have brought a fresh spark to the passing game and we would not be surprised if Butler's able to put together a few more standout performances as the season hurtles toward its end game.

The Draft Network's Trevor Sikkema believes Iowa State redshirt junior WR Hakeem Butler showed "ideal traits" in Saturday's 37-27 loss to Oklahoma.

Butler (6'6/225) had the best game of his career with a 5/174/2 line and kept Iowa State in the game. Despite not really being on the draft radar entering the season, Sikkema goes as far to say, "Butler showcased size and tools to be mentioned as a potential NFL stud." He certainly looked the part on Saturday and a few more perfomances like this could make his draft stock catapult higher.
Sep 16 - 11:20 AM

Iowa State redshirt junior WR Hakeem Butler hauled in five passes for 174 yards and two scores in a 37-27 loss to Oklahoma on Saturday.

Butler was quiet in the season-opening loss to Iowa. He wasn't quite in this one. Even with starting quarterback Kyle Kempt out, Butler was still able to get his and then some. He and Zeb Noland connected on a pair of 50-yard touchdown passes, a 51-yarder in the second, and a 57-yarder a quarter later. Butler has impressive size at 6-foot-6, 219-pounds, and he should remain the top option in the passing game. Iowa State and Butler will look to get their first win of the season next Saturday against Akron.
Sep 15 - 3:52 PM

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline gives Iowa redshirt junior WR Hakeem Butler a seventh-round grade coming into the 2018 season.

He's one of two players on the Cyclones that get draftable grades, with tailback David Montgomery getting a third-round grade from Pauline. Butler is expected to take a big step forward in 2018 statistically, as go-to target Allen Lazard graduated. At 6-foot-6, 219-pounds, his ability to make plays in the red zone will be critical to improving his draft stock, as he has the size to be a touchdown target at the next level.
Aug 24 - 9:45 PM

Iowa State redshirt sophomore WR Hakeem Butler racked up five receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 21-20 win over Memphis in the Liberty Bowl.

Butler finished the season with a respectable 41 grabs for 697 yards and seven scores, including visits to the end zone in each of the final three outings. With Allen Lazard's days in Ames now over, Butler is expected to move to the top of the wide receiver pack heading into 2018. The 6-foot-6, 219-pounded has the tools to be a dominating force in the Big 12 over the next couple of seasons.

Iowa State redshirt sophomore WR Hakeem Butler had five catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns in a overtime loss to Iowa on Saturday.

Butler was having another outstanding game until he dropped a wide-open pass on third-and-8 in overtime, forcing Iowa State to kick a field goal (Iowa ended up scoring a touchdown). Butler has posted a 12-203-3 line through two games.

Iowa State HC Matt Campbell said redshirt sophomore WR Hakeem Butler may be the most talented wide receiver on the team.

What's fascinating about that comment is that the Cyclones boast Allen Lazard, a consensus Day 2 NFL prospect. As for Butler, he appeared in 11 games last year, catching nine balls for 134 yards and two touchdowns. He made only one start in 2016, but may be in line for a full-time starting gig this fall. The Cyclones have a monstrous receiving trio in the 6-foot-5 Lazard, the 6-foot-4 Matthew Eaton and the 6-foot-6 Butler.
