Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson was limited in the second half of the MAC Championship with a leg issue.
Johnson (6'2/210) was dominant in the first half of the game, but Bulls HC Lance Leipold told reporters after the game that the leg issue limited his action in the final 30 minutes of the game; a game that saw Buffalo blow a 29-10 lead in the third quarter. There's no word yet if this will cause Johnson to miss the Dollar General Bowl against Troy on December 22, but it's something we'll certainly be monitoring. Dec 7 - 6:12 PM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson accepted an invitation to the Reese's Senior Bowl.

We're excited about this one. Johnson didn't quite match his ridiculous production in 2017 during the 2018 campaign, but he still had some monster games, and the 6-foot-2, 210-pound wideout has looked good doing it. With his frame and ball skills, he has a chance to be one of the first senior wide receivers selected. A strong showing in Mobile will go along way towards solidifying that status.
Dec 3 - 2:20 PM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Jonson registered seven receptions for 124 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-29 loss to NIU on Friday.

A tremendous game for Johnson, although the majority of this damage was done in the first half. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound wideout showed his impressive ball skills on both scores -- with credit to Tyree Jackson for excellent throws -- and also was able to make defenders miss in the open field. Johnson had an inconsistent regular season, but the talent is obvious. He'll have on more college game when the Bulls play in a Bowl this December.
Nov 30 - 10:41 PM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson caught three passes for 26 yards and a touchdown in Tuesday's 48-14 win over Kent State.

The Bulls were rolling to absurd degree on the ground and did not need major contributions from their aerial attack -- Tyree Jackson attempted just 16 passes -- but Johnson managed to find the end zone regardless, hitting pay dirt from three yards out early on in the third quarter. On the whole this season, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound redshirt senior owns a 35-699-9 receiving line in eight games. Johnson and crew will close up shop on the regular season with games against Ohio and Bowling Green.
Nov 6 - 11:03 PM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson caught eight passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns in Tuesday's 51-42 win over Miami (OH).

Johnson (6'2/210) coming in with a beautiful performance on Tuesday night, catching passes all over the field while repeatedly schooling the Redhawks. His first touchdown came on a perfectly placed deep ball from QB Tyree Jackson from 75 yards out in the first quarter, and he later added scores of 20 and 10 yards. When healthy -- he's dealt with a nagging hamstring injury this season -- Johnson has been fantastic. For the campaign as a whole, the redshirt senior is working on a 32-673-8 receiving line in seven games played. He could put up supernova numbers against Kent State next Tuesday.
Oct 31 - 12:19 AM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson was named the Reese's Senior Bowl Offensive Player of the Week for his effort on Saturday against Toledo.

Johnson was back to his old tricks on Saturday, picking up two touchdowns on four catches in the 31-17 victory over the Rockets. The talented wideout has battled hamstring issues for the past month, but the 6-foot-2, 210-pound receiver has obvious talent. "Tools-wise, one of his best assets is his good functional playing strength," wrote Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy. "He is strong running thru (sic) contact and he is hard for defensive backs to get on the ground without help." Johnson is going to need to show he's fully healthy, but his production is tough to ignore. He has a chance to be one of the highest drafted seniors at the position.
Oct 24 - 6:50 PM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson caught four passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 31-17 win over Toledo.

He's baaaaccccckkkk! Jackson has struggled with a hamstring injury over the past month, an injury that forced him to miss one game and had him limited in another. Johnson (6'2/210) was reported to be nearing 100% prior to the game and then went out and showed that to be the case. He is a prime NFL prospect.
Oct 20 - 3:52 PM

Buffalo radio announcer Paul Peck reports that Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson (hamstring) is expected to be near 100% for Saturday's game against Toledo.

Johnson returned to the field last week but was limited against Akron. He appears to have kicked his hamstring issue. Hopefully we'll see him more involved in what could be a high-scoring game against MAC rival Toledo.
Oct 20 - 12:12 PM

Buffalo HC Lance Leipold likes the progress that redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson (hamstring) is making.

Johnson (6'2/210) missed the CMU game due to a hamstring injury suffered against Rutgers on Sept. 22 and returned to post a 2-44-0 line in last week's win over Akron. "It’s daily," Leipold said. "It’s going to be one of those things on how he feels. He continues to progress, but we need to be smart with him. Weather changes, and other things happen and a lot of factors go in, but it was great to see him make some plays and make some important plays." Johnson has 20 catches for 352 yards and three touchdowns this year. It's been a trying season, both medically and personally. But Buffalo has a chance to have a special season and Johnson appears to be rounding into form just in time to try to push their ceiling up a bit higher.
Oct 17 - 3:04 PM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson (hamstring) caught two passes for 44 yards in Saturday's 24-6 win over Akron.

Johnson (6'2/210) didn't do much in this one, but good to see him back on the field regardless. He had missed the previous game against CMU due to a hamstring injury sustained against Rutgers back on Sept. 22. We'll keep an eye on the star wideout during the upcoming practice week, but he should be go to go as normal moving forward. Look for him to be more involved against Toledo next weekend.
Oct 13 - 4:46 PM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson (hamstring) is expected to play against Akron on Saturday.

Johnson is dressed and warming up. Johnson sat out Saturday's win over Central Michigan and has not played a full game since tweaking his hamstring against Rutgers on Sept. 22. It would be a boon for the Buffalo offense if he can give it a go.
Oct 13 - 11:51 AM

Buffalo HC Lance Leipold referred to redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson's hamstring injury as "day-to-day, week-to-week."

Ominous signs, here. Not only did Leipold fail to offer any sort of a definitive word for Saturday's showdown with Akron, he indicated that Johnson might be facing a longer absence if he doesn't get right soon. Said the coach, "It’s not like he’s trying to shut it down, but if it doesn’t change, we’ll have to shut it down and see what we can do." Johnson sat out Saturday's win over Central Michigan and has not played a full game since tweaking his hamstring against Rutgers on Sept. 22. While Buffalo has offensive firepower beyond the wideout -- K.J. Osborn has emerged as a lethal deep threat this season -- he's a game-changing talent and any extended sidelining would be tough.
Oct 9 - 2:33 PM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson (hamstring) is warming up in advance of Saturday's game against Central Michigan.

Johnson (6'2/210) tested his hamstring in pregame warmups. "He may again be limited to red zone plays," tweeted University at Buffalo announcer Paul Peck. Johnson suffered the hamstring injury a few weeks ago against Rutgers and didn't record a catch against Army.
Oct 6 - 11:55 AM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson (hamstring) is day-to-day.

Johnson (6'2/210) is nursing a hamstring injury sustained against Rutgers two weekends ago. While he saw the field in limited capacity in Saturday's loss to Army, the redshirt senior did not record a catch in that contest. We'll keep tabs on Johnson's progress during the remainder of the practice week leading up to this weekend's kickoff against Central Michigan. The star wideout owns an 18-301-3 receiving line for the campaign to date.
Oct 2 - 2:15 PM

Buffalo redshirt senior WR Anthony Johnson (hamstring) is warming up in advance of Saturday's game against Army.

Johnson (6'2/210) did not play in the second half of last weekend's victory over the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers, but it looks like he's made smooth progress through the practice week. While he was considered questionable coming into the weekend, barring a late setback, it looks like the star wideout will try to give it a go on Saturday. If he ends up scratched, we'll pass along word.
