Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson will not play in the team's Birmingham Bowl date with Wake Forest on Dec. 22.
No real surprise with this one after Henderson declared for the draft on Wednesday. The electric junior sprints off into the sunset having rushed for 1,909 yards (8.9 YPC) and 22 touchdowns during the 2018 season. Bleacher Report's Matt Miller views him as a potential Day 2 selection for the spring. As for Memphis' plight sans Henderson, Patrick Taylor (1,012 yards, 15 touchdowns) is about as able a backup as you will find in the country. He'll look to put the hurt on the Demon Deacons -- now in a lead role -- upcoming. Dec 13 - 6:19 PM

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson declared for the 2019 NFL Draft.

Henderson (5'9/200) crushed the 2018 campaign, rushing for 1,909 yards and 22 touchdowns -- the touchdown tally tied the FBS record -- while averaging a silly 8.9 YPC. He's as smooth a runner as there is in the country, though The Draft Network's Kyle Crabbs notes that Henderson "[d]oes not necessarily have an elite physical trait: is tough, but not a power back," adding that he has "some burst, but doesn’t have top shelf speed." Crabbs also wonders on Henderson's durability, as we've yet to see him take a true workhorse's carry load. He ends his Memphis career having taken just 431 carries. Of course, the positive offshoot to this is that Henderson will enter the NFL with barely any tread worn off the metaphorical tires. His draft process will be a very interesting one to watch coming off an electric season.
Dec 12 - 12:32 PM

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson is expected to meet with HC Mike Norvell Saturday to discuss his future options.

Henderson has yet to decide on whether or not he will enter the 2019 NFL Draft, and that decision will likely impact whether or not he plays in the Tigers' Jared Birmingham Bowl matchup with Wake Forest as well. The junior running back, who tied for the FBS lead with 22 rushing touchdowns, rushed for 1,909 yards and averaged 8.9 yards per carry while also catching 19 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns this season.
Dec 8 - 1:23 PM

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries in Saturday's 56-41 loss to UCF.

It's a heartbreaking loss for Memphis, who let UCF come back from a 24-7 first quarter deficit. But Henderson did everything he could to prevent it. As he's done all season long, Henderson broke off long run after long run finding the end zone with ease. His touchdowns came from 62, 12, and 82 yards out, so people making Henderson highlight tapes will have another five minutes of footage from this game alone. With today's performance, Henderson is up to 1,909 yards and 22 rushing touchdowns on the season. It doesn't get much better than that folks.
Dec 1 - 8:19 PM

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson gobbled up 178 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries in Friday's 52-31 victory against Houston to set the AAC all-time single-season rushing yardage mark.

Henderson moved past James Flanders of Tulsa (1,629 yards - 2016) for the top spot all-time in conference history. He also was instrumental in helping the team push a side a pesky Cougars team to secure a spot in the AAC Championship Game against UCF, a rematch of last season's entertaining game. Henderson will enter that game with 1,699 yards and 19 rushing scores on the season. The Mississippi native rolled up 199 yards and a touchdown vs. UCF back on Oct. 13.

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson racked up 21 carries for 132 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 59-41 win over East Carolina.

Henderson also added 72 yards and a touchdown through the air. His two rushing touchdowns both came in the fourth quarter from 39 and 20 yards out as he helped to solidify the Tigers win. Most of his receiving yards came on a well-designed 70-yard screen pass where he ran untouched into the end zone. Henderson now has 18 total touchdowns on the season in Memphis' high-scoring offense. He will look to continue his success next week against Tulsa.
Nov 3 - 4:47 PM

Memphis HC Mike Norvell said that junior RB Darrell Henderson (leg) is not expected to be limited in his workload come this weekend's game against ECU.

Henderson (5'9/200) played early against Missouri in Week 8, but was forced out due to a leg injury which had flared up during pregame warmups. Memphis was off on bye for Week 9, and the junior back was able to practice during that bye without issue. Full speed ahead at this juncture, it would appear. Henderson has rushed for 1,148 yards (10.1 YPC!) and 13 touchdowns in eight games this season.
Oct 30 - 6:39 PM

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson told reporters that he's dealing with a leg injury.

We knew that Henderson was dealing with injury -- he was forced out early in a loss to Missouri prior to the bye -- but we're only just now finding out the specific nature of the issue. Per the star junior, he's dealing with a leg injury that cropped up in warmups prior to that contest with Mizzou. With the extra week to rest up, it's expected that Henderson will be able to play against ECU this coming weekend. We'll pass along word if the practice week turns sour on him.
Oct 30 - 2:26 PM

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson (undisclosed) is expected to play on November 3 against East Carolina.

Henderson left Saturday's blowout loss against Missouri after he "tweaked" something, with that "something" not being named by Mike Norvell. It sounds like it's not something serious, so the star tailback should be good to go -- and put up monster numbers -- when the Tigers face ECU after their bye. If he can't go, Patrick Taylor Jr. would be the starter.
Oct 22 - 4:48 PM

Following Saturday's loss at Missouri, Memphis HC Mike Norvell said that junior RB Darrell Henderson did not return to the game because he "tweaked something."

While Norvell did not say what his star running back tweaked, it has been reported that Henderson was dealing with a hamstring issue. Given his impact on the Memphis offense, the junior's injury status is certainly worth monitoring moving forward. The good news for Henderson is that next week is a bye week, with Memphis set to return to action November 3 at East Carolina.
Oct 20 - 7:59 PM

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson (undisclosed) is unlikely to return to Saturday's game against Missouri.

That's the official word from the Tigers. Henderson (5'9/200) was forced out of the game and into the locker room after sustaining an undisclosed injury in the first half. With Missouri up 48-20 on the scoreboard early in the third quarter, it looks like the team will take a precautionary approach to the electric junior. We'll pass along an update on Henderson's status moving forward as information becomes available.
Oct 20 - 6:28 PM

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson has headed back to the locker room with an apparent injury suffered on Saturday against Missouri.

Henderson was seen on the sidelines trying to stretch out and get back into the game, but the Tigers are sending him back to the locker room. With Henderson out, Patrick Taylor is operating as the lead back. We'll be sure and update you when we have more information on the severity of the injury.
Oct 20 - 5:20 PM

Memphis junior RB Darrell Henderson was named one of the first-team All Americans by Pro Football Focus for the first half of the 2018 season.

This shouldn't surprise anyone. Or at the very least, it shouldn't surprise anyone who has seen Henderson's stats. Not only has Henderson (5'9/200) ran for 1,133 yards and 13 scores already; he's put up 733 yards after contact. For perspective, only six players have more total yardage than that from the running back position. Other notable players on the list include Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa, Colorado WR Laviska Shenault, and Texas A&M TE Jace Sternberger.
