Iowa redshirt sophomore TE T.J. Hockenson was named the winner of the John Mackey Award.
The John Mackey is given out annually to the best tight end in the country. Hockenson's teammate Noah Fant entered the season with far more fanfare, but the redshirt sophomore ultimately ended up posting a more robust campaign on the statistical front than his more heralded fellow Hawkeye. The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder put together a 46-717-6 receiving line while averaging 15.6 yards per reception this year. For reference's sake, Fant finished out with a 39-518-7 receiving line. Fant has already declared for the NFL Draft. Hockenson is likewise eligible to do so, though as of yet, he has not announced one way or another. Dec 5 - 1:18 PM

The Draft Network's Kyle Crabbs believes Iowa redshirt sophomore TE T.J. Hockenson's "profile will continue to grow" after Saturday's game against Indiana.

Crabbs said that most of the focus draft-wise has been on Iowa's other tight end, Noah Fant, but Hockenson is legit. His "coming-out party" against Indiana wasn't a fluke either as Crabbs mentions he excels through the air and blocking on the ground. Hockenson is draft eligible this year as a redshirt sophomore and while he won't overtake Fant's draft position, he could climb the ranks pretty quickly with similar performances to Saturday's 4/107/2 outing.

Iowa sophomore TE T.J. Hockenson had four catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 42-16 victory over Indiana.

Hockenson was outstanding a few weeks ago against Wisconsin, but this was his true coming out party. Overshadowed by teammate Noah Fant, college football's most gifted TE, Hockenson is himself a superb NFL TE prospect. Today, when Hockenson wasn't making plays as a receiver, he was ragdolling Hoosiers edge defenders as a blocker. Hockenson will enter next year as one of the top TE prospects in the nation.

Hockenson was only out of action for a short period, and the injury is apparently not serious.
Sep 1 - 6:16 PM

Iowa sophomore TE T.J. Hockensen was seen heading to the locker room with an undisclosed injury in Saturday's game against Northern Illinois.

Hockensen was getting medical treatment on the field before heading to the locker room. Noah Fant will now have an even bigger role. Expect an update on his status after the game.
Sep 1 - 6:00 PM

Iowa freshman TE T.J. Hockenson scored two touchdowns and accrued 71 yards on five catches in Saturday's 55-24 shellacking of Ohio State.

Hockenson (6'5/243) had six catches combined in the last three games coming into this one, so, it's a bit of a surprise to see him do this to what was the No.6 team in the nation. As good of time as any to have the surprise. The freshman found seams in the Buckeye secondary, and he scored twice in the red zone from ten and two yards, respectively. Don't be surprised if Hockenson becomes a bigger part of the offense for Iowa going forward, including next week against Wisconsin.
