Dismissed Virginia Tech redshirt junior DL Trevon Hill wrote to Twitter that he hopes to play college football in the fall.
Hill (6'3/245) was dismissed from Virginia Tech near the end of September. In a lengthy Twitter post released on Monday night, the redshirt junior attempted to explain his boot from the team, describing a "heated exchange" with a staff member at halftime of the Hokies' contest against Old Dominion in the third week of the season (a game which the team ultimately lost) which was followed almost immediately by his ignominious exit from the program. Our main takeaway from his post -- it would appear that Hill, though draft-eligible, will not be trying for the NFL this spring, but will instead be looking to reestablish himself in the collegiate ranks. We'll keep our eye on this one moving forward. Jan 8 - 12:15 PM

Virginia Tech redshirt junior DL Trevon Hill has been dismissed by the football team.

Wow. The Hokies weekend gets even worse. The Athletic's Andy Bitter believes the dismissal was an accumulation of things and nothing criminal. But this is as bad as it gets for an NFL prospect -- he was given a third-round grade by Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline -- who was already off to a hot start on the field this season. In the first few weeks, Hill already had a team-leading 3.5 sacks (two of which game against Florida State) and 4.5 tackles for loss. It's hard to put into words how big of a dent this puts into Hill's draft stock, but it's massive.

Virginia Tech redshirt junior DL Trevon Hill was responsible for two sacks in Monday's 24-3 win over Florida State.

Given a third-round grade by draft analyst Tony Pauline last month, Hill certainly looked the part in what was a standout performance against the Seminoles. In addition to the sacks Hill tallied four tackles -- three for loss -- on a night that saw the Virginia Tech defensive line dominate its matchup with Florida State's offensive line.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline gave redshirt sophomore DE Trevon Hill a third-round grade.

Hill is currently the top-ranked draft prospect for the Hokies. Pauline said Hill "is very much like recent edge rushers from the Hokies program; undersized but quick, athletic and explosive. He plays with great pad level as well as balance and can bend off the edge and create havoc up the field." Hill has big shoes to fill with the departure of this year's No. 16 overall selection, DE Tremaine Edmunds. He will look to improve upon his 5.5 sacks from 2017.

ESPN's David Hale lists Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore Trevon Hill as a player who could help replace the loss of Tremaine Edmunds.

As Hale mentions, replacing a player who can do so much like Edmunds is going to be near impossible. Still, Hill flashed big talent during the 2017 season, and he believes that he could at least help alleviate some of that loss. "Edmunds is such a big loss because he could do so much, Hale writes. "Watch for end Trevon Hill, who played well down the stretch a year ago and ended up tied with Edmunds for the team lead with 5.5 sacks." Hale also mentions Houshun Gaines as a potential replacement; a player that really impressed down the stretch, particularly in the regular season finale against Virginia with two tackles for loss.

Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore DE Trevon Hill underwent surgery to repair an undisclosed injury concern.

Hill (6'3/245) made 12 starts for the Hokies during the 2017 season and did not miss a game, so whatever his injury it either happened late or he was able to play his way through it. He posted 46 tackles (9.5 for loss), 5.5 sacks and an interception during the most recent campaign. There is no timetable for Hill's return at this juncture, but one should clarify as we get closer to spring practice.
