Clutch addition for Sooners HC Lincoln Riley and staff. Hayes (6'4/289) initially joined the collegiate ranks with the Irish as a four-star recruit in the 2014 class. He started all 13 games during the past campaign, posting 27 tackles (3.5 for loss), a sack and two passes defended in that space. Notre Dame senior DL Jay Hayes will pursue a graduate transfer.

Because Hayes is looking to leave with his diploma, he'll be eligible to play wherever he ends up immediately. The 6-foot-4, 289-pound defensive lineman played in 11 games for the Irish in 2017 -- most of them as a starter -- and made 3.5 tackles for loss. It's a fairly significant loss for the Notre Dame defense, who will look for another lineman to plus in as a three-technique in the 2018 season.
