Texas A&M junior LB Tyrel Dodson declared for the 2019 NFL Draft.
Dodson (6'2/242) enters the draft coming off something of a down statistical season. Back in 2017, he registered 104 tackles (10.0 for loss) with 5.5 sacks and three interceptions, numbers which dropped off in 2018 to the tune of 70 tackles (7.0 for loss), 0.5 sacks and one interception. Over the summer, Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline referred to him as a "terror on film," though that comes with the obvious caveat that Pauline was watching his 2017 rather than 2018 film at the time. Dodson should perform well at the NFL Scouting Combine next month, as he offers plenty of athleticism in his profile. Pauline views the Texas A&M standout as a Day 2 prospect at this juncture. It will be interesting to see over the coming months how evaluators view his tape from the recently completed campaign. Jan 2 - 1:16 PM

Texas A&M junior LB Tyrel Dodson left Saturday's game against Ole Miss in the first quarter due to an apparent ankle injury.

Dodson went down late in the first quarter. After being attended to on the field, the junior linebacker managed to walk off under his own power, albeit quite gingerly. Consider him questionable to return to action. Buddy Johnson replaced him in the game following the injury concern.

Texas A&M junior LB Tyrel Dodson returned to Saturday's game against Kentucky after having suffered an ankle injury early in the third quarter.

Texas A&M's defensive leader was back on the field after getting both of his ankles re-taped. Dodson injured his right ankle early in the third quarter and was unable to put any weight on it as he was helped off of the field. Given the junior linebacker's productivity and what he provides from an intangibles standpoint, this would have been a major hit for Texas A&M to absorb had Dodson not been able to return.

Texas A&M junior LB Tyrel Dodson left Saturday's game against Kentucky in the third quarter with an apparent right ankle injury.

Dodson was unable to put any weight on the leg while being helped off the field, but emerged from the injury tent with his ankle re-taped. The junior linebacker did attempt to test out the injury, but it hasn't been determined if he'll be able to return. Dodson is the unquestioned leader of the Texas A&M defense, and he entered Saturday's game with 22 total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.

Texas A&M junior LB Tyrel Dodson said after Saturday's win over Arkansas that he had no issue with a second half exchange in which HC Jimbo Fisher grabbed his face mask.

The incident occurred after Dodson became entangled with an Arkansas player late in the third quarter, with Fisher pushing the junior linebacker and grabbing his face mask. While some were critical of the way in which Fisher went about getting his point across, that Dodson shouldn't get involved in extracurriculars with opposing players, Dodson took to Twitter to say that he had no issue with how his coaching handled things.

Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline gives Texas A&M junior LB Tyrel Dodson a second-round grade coming into the 2018 season.

Dodson has received plenty of hype over the summer, and Pauline calls the linebacker a "terror" on film. "Dodson shows a great amount of athleticism in his game," he writes, "and he’s also an instinctive defender who quickly reads and correctly diagnoses." He also notes that the 6-foot-6, 242-pound defender has a chance to be a three-down player, which will assuredly help his stock if teams agree. Dodson is absolutely a player to monitor this fall.

ESPN's Alex Scarborough lists Texas A&M junior LB Tyrel Dodson as the most underrated player on the Aggies.

As Scarborough notes, the Aggies defense isn't exactly considered world class, and it shouldn't be. They do have a few productive players, however, and Dodson (6'6/242) qualifies. " Last season he not only ranked seventh in the SEC with 96 tackles, he also had six sacks, six passes defended and three interceptions," writes Scarborough. With new DC Mike Elko coming in, those numbers could get better, which would make Dodson an intriguing NFL prospect -- if he isn't already.

Athlon Sports referred to Texas A&M junior LB Tyrel Dodson as a "rising [star]."

Dodson (6'2/242) got his feet wet as a four-star freshman in 2016, then came out in 2017 to blow the doors off the competition. During that most recent campaign, the linebacker posted 104 tackles (10.0 for loss), 5.5 sacks, three interceptions and a healthy eight passes defended. Athlon believes that the Aggies have a real chance to coalesce defensively under DC Mike Elko -- swiped from Notre Dame -- after they struggled mightily for long stretches of the 2017 season.
