Marc Turnesa torched LaTour Golf Club to the tune of an 8-under-par 30-34=64 to lead the four-pack of qualifiers into this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Joining him will be Dalton Ward (-7), Matt Mabrey (-7), and Jordan Payne (-7).
Turnesa took it lowest today on LaTour's 7,142 yard layout, but Mabrey was the lone qualifier to author a bogey-free round today. Turnesa is also the most seasoned of the four as he makes his 110th PGA TOUR start, including a win at the 2008 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. He will be making his fifth start of the season, with a 1-for-4 record thus far, including a missed cut at last week's Valero Texas Open. Ward will be making his second career PGA TOUR start. The Memphis alum Jordan Payne will also be making his second PGA TOUR appearance (MC at 2010 Viking Classic). Sticking with the theme, Tulsa product Matt Mabrey has a lone PGA TOUR start which came in the form of a missed cut at the 2015 U.S. Open. Apr 25 - 8:10 PM

Past Champion Marc Turnesa makes a rare start on the PGA TOUR at this week's Sanderson Farms Championship at the Country Club of Jackson.

There are just over 5,600 players tied for No. 1703 this week in the Official World Golf Ranking, the lowest ranking the list follows, and Turnesa is one of them. Those at this ranking average 0.000 world-ranking points per event and obviously then have a total of 0.00 points. The last time Turnesa deposited points was for a T16 at the 2012 Mayakoba Golf Classic. Of course, that was only 17 PGA TOUR starts ago as the 37-year-old rarely make an appearance on the main stage. He did cash 14 times on 19 starts last season on the Web.com Tour -- none garnering any points -- posting a season-best T19 at the Rex Hospital Open in May. Turnesa's lone title on TOUR (105 career starts) came in his rookie season in 2008 at the Shriners. Three starts prior, he lost in a three-man playoff at the Viking Classic at Annandale GC, now known as the SFC.

Marc Turnesa settled for an even-par 36-36=72 at Lake Caroline Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi, in today's open qualifier for the Sanderson Farms Championship, seven strokes too many to join the playoff for the final berth into the tournament proper.

It was in the 2008 edition of the SFC at Annandale Golf Club that Turnesa lost in a playoff just one month before securing his only PGA TOUR victory (in Vegas). He counterbalanced six birdies with two bogeys and two doubles today. Other notables that failed to qualify for the first opposite event of the season include: 65--Len Mattiace; Steve Marino; Brad Elder; Shane Bertsch (all were eliminated in an 8-for-1 playoff) ... 67--Frank Lickliter II; Casey Wittenberg; Brad Adamonis; Gavin Coles; Wes Roach ... 68--Patrick Sheehan; Kyle Thompson ... 69--Todd Hamilton; Omar Uresti; Ben Kohles ... 70--Kent Jones; Arjun Atwal; Steve Allan ... 71--Danny Ellis ... 72--Justin Bolli ... 75--Edward Loar.

Marc Turnesa has been added to the published field of this week's Wyndham Championship.

Turnesa was the seventh alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He was the last alternate to gain entry following the first wave of withdrawals. The one-time PGA TOUR champ has cashed in his last two starts, but hasn't wrangled a top 45 since a T31 at the 2012 Barracuda. He has not played the Web.com Tour all season.

Marc Turnesa won the 2008 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open and returns to TPC Summerlin this week for his fifth edition.

Turnesa now only possesses Past Champion status on the PGA TOUR, so it is imperative that the make the most of this rare start. He's shown up three times between the Web.com Tour and the PGA TOUR in 2013, making the cut in both PGA TOUR events but not finishing any better than a T56 at the Reno-Tahoe Open.

Marc Turnesa gathered 12 points during his third round of the Reno-Tahoe Open.

Beginning the week as an alternate, he circled six birdies without a blemish on his tour of Montreux GC and enters the final round with 21 points. This is only his second PGA TOUR start of the year, sharing 65 at the Sanderson Farms Championship opposite The Open Championship. He likely needs at least a top five to even crack the top 200 of the FedExCup standings to earn an invite to the four-tournament playoff for a 2013-14 PGA TOUR card.

Marc Turnesa turned in a 5-under-par 37-30=67 at the Bayonet Course at Bayonet and Black Horse in Seaside, Calif. in today's open qualifier for the Frys.com Open to earn a spot in the tournament proper.

The one-time PGA TOUR winner opened with a birdie at the par-5 10th hole but finished his first nine in birdie-free 2-over. He then flipped on the jets for six birdies on his inward side. Turnesa shared medalist honors with Veteran Member Craig Barlow, who signed for a 5-under 35-32=67. Barlow circled eight birdies to offset one bogey and a double. Derek Ernst erased two bogeys with six birdies to finish alone in third place at 4-under 32-36=68. The final of four berths required a 6-way playoff from which Matt Marshall (33-36=69; five birdies, one bogey) survived. The field for the Frys.com Open is now complete at 132.

Marc Turnesa is listed in the published field of next week's Reno-Tahoe Open.

We still don't know why he called it quits during his second round of last week's True South Classic. He rose as high as fifth alternate for the RBC Canadian Open, but settles for a spot at Montreux next week where he'll be looking to end an 0-for-5 slide.

Marc Turnesa was the last man to sneak into the HP Byron Nelson field at the commitment deadline and will look to make the best of his opportunity this week.

Turnesa has found starts hard to come by playing out of the Past Champion category, but he's done a decent job of making the most of them. He's cashed in three of his four attempts, with a T16 at Mayakoba as the highlight. He'd rank first in Strokes Gained-Putting at 2.302 if he had enough rounds in the books to qualify.
