Bill Lunde makes his way back to the Tour Championship for a third consecutive year.
Lunde finished the 2014 Tour season ranked 22nd in the money list to secure his card. He didn't make the most of his opportunities as he finished 197th in the FedExCup standings with an 8-for-18 overall record. After three legs of the Tour Finals, he sits in 29th place of the standings and is so close to the coveted 25th spot he can almost taste that PGA TOUR status. Sep 29 - 10:42 PM

Bill Lunde makes his 17th start of the season at this week's Barracuda Championship in Reno, Nevada.

Lunde graduated from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and remains a Las Vegas resident. He secured his 2014-15 PGA TOUR card by finishing 22nd on the Tour money list, recording four top 10s on 20 starts, setting up his return to the TOUR, where he played full time in 2009-12. On the season, he's made seven cuts on 16 starts with a season-best T33 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open back in October, good for 198th in the FedExCup standings. The 39-year-old is 2-for-5 at the Barracuda with both cashes going for top 25s (18th/2012, T10/2010). He missed the cut in 2013 by five points (Modified Stableford scoring system) in his latest attempt.
Aug 4 - 8:58 PM

Bill Lunde is set to make his sixth career Travelers Championship appearance and 13th start of his 2014-15 season.

Lunde sleepwalks into Cromwell, Connecticut, 190th in the FedExCup standings. The 39-year-old has missed more cuts (6) than he's made (5), adding a second-round WD during a weather delay in New Orleans (where he was going to miss the cut). The Tour grad, who ranks 33rd on the reshuffle list, has not finished inside the top 40 since the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in October, his first start on the season. Lunde is 2-for-5 at the Travelers posting: 2009/T21, 2008/T47, and missing his last three cuts in 2011-13.
Jun 24 - 1:36 PM

Bill Lunde posted a 3-under-par 35-34=69 in his opening round of the Wells Fargo Championship, finishing four strokes off the clubhouse lead.

The 39-year-old has PGA TOUR status via the Tour Finals, not that you'd be aware of it. He's 181st in the FedExCup standings with five paydays, none going for a top 30. So, the likelihood of him sustaining today's form for another 54 holes is against the odds. He buried five birdies, including on all four par 5s. Four of his par breakers disappeared from outside 12 feet, the most notable measuring 47'8" and 22'11" at the fifth and 10th holes, respectively. He went 3-for-5 in scrambling with two bogeys.
May 14 - 1:44 PM

Bill Lunde withdrew during his second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Lunde was laying 2 in the fairway at the par-5 18th hole when play was suspended on Friday. He was 3-over-par on the round and 8-over for the tournament, so he was already going to miss the cut. It's his sixth mid-tournament WD in 131 PGA TOUR starts and drops him to 5-for-9 on the season. The 39-year-old arrived sitting 178th in the FedExCup standings and without a top 30. Given his dearth of success, just getting to the Tour Finals seems like a reasonable goal right now.
Apr 25 - 10:48 AM

Bill Lunde turns his attention for TPC Louisiana for his ninth start of the 2014-15 season at this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Lunde is 5-for-8 this season with no finishes inside the top 30. The five paydays are good enough for 178th in the FedExCup standings and 30th on the Tour reshuffle. The PGA TOUR winner lacks the upside he once did, but could be worth a look if earning a paycheck is one of the main objectives.
Apr 21 - 12:12 PM

Bill Lunde arrives at this week's Puerto Rico Open ranked 163rd in the FedExCup standings.

Lunde has started the 2014-15 campaign missing the cut in just three of seven starts. He's completed the task while ranking outside the top 150 in both strokes gained:tee-to-green and strokes gained:putting. Lunde hasn't finished inside the top 25 since 2013, although he's only made it into just 10 PGA TOUR events during that stretch. The UNLV product is 3-for-4 at this event but missed the cut in his most recent visit last year.
Mar 2 - 9:31 PM

Bill Lunde makes the fifth start of his 2014-15 PGA TOUR season at this week's Humana Challenge.

Lunde has enjoyed his share of success in this event, cashing checks on three of his four trips including a pair of top-15 finishes. A top 15 this week would come at just the right time. He's missed his last two cuts, including last week's Sony Open in Hawaii, and ranks a distant 147th in the FedExCup standings.
Jan 20 - 8:18 AM

Bill Lunde collected two paydays during the Fall Series to arrive at 132nd in the FedExCup standings.

Starting the season at 41st in the reshuffle, Lunde climbed 11 spots during the first reshuffle, thanks to a pair of cuts made in three appearances, thus far. The 39-year-old missed the cut in his only PGA TOUR start last season. Lunde is five for his last 14 on the main circuit and can be ignored by gamers in most formats moving forward.

Bill Lunde navigated TPC Summerlin in bogey-free 5-under-par 33-33=66 during the third round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Four of Lunde's five birdies found the bottom of the cup from longer than 10 feet, as he gained well over two strokes with the flat stick. It wasn't just the putter propping him up. He landed 16 GIR as well. As a Tour graduate subject to the reshuffle, a solid finish on Sunday could do wonders for the number of tournaments he gains entry into the rest of the way. He enters the final round at 11-under 202.

Bill Lunde opened the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open with a pair of 3-under-par 68s.

Lunde is fully exempt again (via the Tour Finals), but he needed a sponsor exemption to compete at TPC Summerlin this week. He lives locally and played collegiately at UNLV. Thus far, he's buried five birdies against two bogeys in each round. Today's set include a pair from 10-13 feet. At 6-under 136, he's three strokes adrift of the 36-hole clubhouse lead. This will go in the books as his first payday on the PGA TOUR since the 2013 Sanderson Farms Championship.

Bill Lunde opens the 2014-15 PGA TOUR season at 41st position in the opening reshuffle.

The Tour grad will look to rejuvenate his PGA TOUR career this season, but at 41st in the reshuffle, he will need to make the most of early opportunities. Lunde has cuts made in 67 of his 122 career starts, but just 3-of-11 since 2013. At 38 years of age, his prime has past him by, but he could surface from time to time this season as a value play in weekly salary cap formats.

Bill Lunde crafted a 10-under-par 31=30=61 in the second round of the Albertsons Boise Open to join Zack Sucher in the 36-hole lead at 15-under 127.

The highlight of Lunde's round was easily his hole-in-one at the par-3 13th hole at Hillcrest CC. He spread 10 other birdies across his scorecard, suffering two bogeys in the process. While he will be excited about his performance, he will likely look back at the two bogeys and think about the 59 that could have been. At 37th on the Tour money list, he would move inside the top 10 and secure his 2014-15 PGA TOUR card with a victory this week.

Bill Lunde is the clubhouse leader in the second round of the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship following a second-round 3-under-par 35-33=68.

Just like the first round, a severe thunderstorm has washed out play for the remainder of the day. Lunde's 8-under 134 is good for the clubhouse lead, but the morning wave of players hasn't even completed play, and the afternoon threesomes aren't completely out on the course. While a 72-hole Sunday finish remains in the cards, it would seem a stretch for the third round to conclude on Saturday. First-round leader, Justin Thomas, is one behind Lunde with two holes to play in his second round. Play is set to resume at 7:00 a.m. ET on Saturday.
Fri, Feb 14, 2014 04:23:00 PM

Bill Lunde will kick off his 2013-14 PGA TOUR season at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

His Las Vegas residence and UNLV roots are likely the reason he picked up a sponsor exemption. He's playing this season with only Past Champion status, so starts are precious to say the least. He finished fifth at TPC Summerlin in 2012 and has posted eight consecutive rounds under par in this event.
