Frank Lickliter II lit up the scoreboard with a 6-under-par 32-34=66 during the first round of the Puerto Rico Open at Coco Beach.
The two-time PGA TOUR winner arrived without much success at Coco Beach Golf and Country Club. In five previous tries, he's missed the cut in four and finished T28 in the other (2011). His fortunes were reversed today as he landed 11 greens in regulation and squared just one bogey. The highlight of the day came at the par-4 ninth hole where he chipped in for birdie from just off the green. Thu, Mar 24, 2016 03:07:00 PM

Frank Lickliter II has crashed the field at this week's Sanderson Farms Championship.

The veteran started the week as fifth alternate. He placed T47 at the open qualifier with a 2-over 74, and then finally gained entry when Troy Matteson withdrew and fourth alternate Dudley Hart wasn't on site. FL2 is making his debut at the Country Club of Jackson. He's scheduled to go off the first tee at 11:15 a.m. CT.

Frank Lickliter II turned in a 2-under-par 36-33=69 at Bermuda Run (N.C.) Country Club's Main Course in today's open qualifier for the Wyndham Championship, two strokes too many to join the playoff for the final berth into the tournament proper.

It's just as well. The veteran circled four birdies against two bogeys to settle for a share of 10th place. He went 0-for-4 this season and seemed to make more appearances in the four-spotters than most with a PGA TOUR title. He has two wins, in fact. While another close call today epitomizes the kind of year that he's endured with nothing more than a spot deep in the Beyond 150 Reshuffle, perhaps he best example of his status is that he wound up as first alternate at the Barracuda Championship where more than two dozen alternates were needed to fill the field of 132. Other notables that fell short for the Wyndham today include: 71--Brad Adamonis ... 72--Craig Kanada; Todd Demsey ... 75--Kent Jones.

Frank Lickliter II was added to the published field of this week's John Deere Classic.

Lickliter II began the week no higher than 25th alternate, but he snuck in when Benjamin Alvarado withdrew this morning. FL2 is 0-for-3 this season and continues to be a mainstay at the open qualifiers. He was two strokes outside the number to join the playoff at the four-spotter for the JDC.

Frank Lickliter II turned in a bogey-free, 7-under-par 30-33=63 at Carolina Golf Club in Charlotte, N.C., in today's open qualifier for the Wells Fargo Championship, good for co-runner-up honors and a berth into the tournament proper.

FL2 has been attempting to four-spot for years now. He converted an eagle-3 and five birdies in the slugfest today. The other three qualifiers will be making their first appearance in a PGA TOUR event. The trio is led by medalist Dustin Bray, who circled eight birdies en route to a bogey-free, 8-under 31-31=62. The 32-year-old journeyman played collegiately at the University of North Carolina and has 71 starts on the Tour to his credit, albeit without a victory. Hunter Green posted a bogey-free, 7-under 32-31=63 with seven birdies at the OQ. Despite his colorful name, the former charge at Middle Tennessee State has yet to see action in PGA TOUR-sanctioned competition. The final spot at Quail Hollow went to Fielding Brewbaker at 6-under 32-32=64 (7 birdies, 1 bogey). The James Madison product outlasted Jay McLuen and James Sacheck in a playoff. Brewbaker is 0-for-1 on the Tour, missing the cut in a 2013 event. The field at the WFC is now complete at 156.

Two-time PGA TOUR winner Frank Lickliter was one of the four golfers to survive the open qualifier for this week's Puerto Rico Open.

Results are supposed to be linked below, but the pages associated with the scoring and tee times are broken. The OQ was contested at Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club in Rio Grande. In his only previous start this season, FL2 missed the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii where he was also a four-spotter. The other three berths into the tournament proper went to Danny Balin, Timothy Puetz and Julian Etulian. Balin is a PGA professional from Connecticut. He's missed the cut in each of his four PGA TOUR starts, all of which in the last four editions of the PGA Championship. Puetz also is a PGA pro but in New York. He'll be making his PGA TOUR debut. Etulian of Argentina has conditional status on the Tour. He finished sixth in the Order of Merit on the 2013 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica. In his only previous start on the PGA TOUR, Etulian tied for 42nd at the 2011 Puerto Rico Open. The field at Trump International Golf Club-Puerto Rico is now complete at 132.

Frank Lickliter II successfully navigated the four-spotter for this week's Sony Open in Hawaii.

Lickliter turned in a 66 at the Arnold Palmer Course at Turtle Bay in Kahuku, Hawaii, to share runner-up honors with Eric Dugas and Martin Trainer. A 65 gave Derek Tolan medalist honors. FL2 is a two-time PGA TOUR winner, but he went just 1-for-3 during the 2013 season and was a frequent attendee at the Monday sprints. If there's a positive spin, it's that one of his three personal-low 62s occurred at Waialae in 2004, the last time he survived the cut at the Sony (solo fourth). Tolan is a career 1-for-3 in TOUR events (T32, 2012 Puerto Rico Open). Dugas missed the cut in both of his previous PGA TOUR starts, including the 2012 Sony. And in his only previous TOUR appearance, Trainer tied for 71st at the 2011 Reno-Tahoe Open. The field at Waialae Country Club is now complete at 144.

He erased three birdies with three bogeys and settled for a share of 36th place. Lickliter II four-spotted for the Travelers Championship three weeks ago, but missed the cut in the tournament. Other notables to failed to qualify for the JDC include: 68--Mathias Grönberg ... 69--Mike Van Sickle ... 70--Robert Gamez; Brad Benjamin ... 71--Bubba Dickerson ... 72--Andre Stolz ... 73--Kyle Thompson; David McKenzie ... 77--Ted Purdy; Barry Cheesman.

Former TOUR members Fran Quinn (bogey-free 35-33=68; 2 birdies) and David Branshaw (36-32=68; 1 eagle [on the par-4 second hole], 2 birdies, 2 bogeys) secured the other two berths into the tournament proper. The field at TPC River Highlands is now complete at 156.

Killeen (7 birdies, 1 bogey) ... 67--Alex Cejka; Kent Jones; Glen Day ... 68--Mathias Grönberg ... 70--Cliff Kresge ... 71--Marc Turnesa; Mike Heinen; Michael Connell ... 74--Craig Kanada.

Frank Lickliter II signed for a 3-over-par 75 following his round at today's open qualifier for the Puerto Rico Open, nine strokes too high to force a playoff for a berth.

Ever since losing his fully exempt status following the 2009 season, FL2 has been a fixture on the four-spotter circuit. The two-time PGA TOUR winner is in no man's land at 43 years of age. Today he erased four birdies at Rio Mar Beach Resort's River Course in Rio Grande with five bogeys and a double. Other notables that failed to qualify include: 67--Corbin Mills ... 72--Bubba Dickerson ... 73--Marc Turnesa; Kent Jones ... 77--Justin Peters.

Frank Lickliter II ravaged CordeValle Golf Club in his second round of the Open, rattling home nine birdies en route to a 7-under-par 34-30=64.

First, consider that this is Lickliter II's first sub-70 in 18 stroke-play rounds all year. This will also be just his second payday in nine starts, and nothing was going to stand in his way. He hit 14 greens and took a tidy 24 putts. Seven of his birdies measured greater than 10 feet; the most notable dropped in from 33'1" at the third hole, six yards from off the green at 13 and 22'7" at the 18th. At 7-under 135, he's just two strokes adrift of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

Frank Lickliter II has gained entry into this week's Open.

Lickliter II started the week as the sixth alternate. He earned a tee time when Fredrik Jacobson withdrew and Michael Allen elected not to remain committed as an alternate. FL2's inclusion is reflected only in the live scoring page at where he's scheduled to begin on the 10th tee at 12:20 p.m. PT. The veteran has cashed in only one of eight starts this season.

Frank Lickliter II settled for an even-par 35-37=72 at the Bayonet Course at Bayonet and Black Horse in Seaside, Calif. in today's open qualifier for the Open, three strokes too high to join a playoff for the final of four berths into the tournament proper.

FL2 neutralized three birdies with three bogeys to finish in a share of 17th place. The two-time PGA TOUR champ has been a popular figure on the open qualifying circuit this year.
