Bobby Gates makes his sixth start in the Valero Texas Open this week.
Gates made his first appearance here in 2009, tying for 47th, before the venue switched from La Cantera GC to TPC San Antonio in 2010. He's never missed a start at TPC San Antonio, but has missed two cuts. His highlight was a T15 in 2011. He's made just one cut in seven tries in 2013-14, so he could use a spark in the worst way. Bobby Gates failed to retain his PGA TOUR card during the 2013 season and had to drop down to the Web.com Tour Finals in order to pick up one of 25 remaining tickets to the TOUR.

Gates converted that into two starts before the lengthy break, but failed to secure a paycheck. That could spell trouble, as he lost ground in the reshuffle and could now find starts difficult to come by. He is a veteran of 83 PGA TOUR events, but has only made 32 cuts and five top 10s. By most measures, he is not a worthy investment for gamers.

Bobby Gates readies for his second start of the 2013-14 PGA TOUR season at this week's OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

Gates tied for fifth in the 2011 edition, breaking par in each of his four trips around El Camaleón. Given he is subject to the reshuffle, which takes place following this event, a big finish could do wonders for future opportunities on the TOUR. He missed the cut at the Frys.com Open.

Bobby Gates has been added to the published field of this week's Frys.com Open.

Gates was the second alternate when the field was released on Friday evening. He gained entry when Steve Marino withdrew. Gates went 4-for-20 on the PGA TOUR in 2013 but regained fully exempt status via the Web.com Tour Finals. He missed the cut in last year's Frys.com but tied for 24th in 2011.

The opening round of the Sanderson Farms Championship has been suspended until 7:00 a.m. CT on Friday.

Tournament organizers scheduled two restarts, but Mother Nature didn't cooperate. Bobby Gates was one of 64 golfers from the afternoon wave stranded. He's completed three holes in 2-over-par with two pars and a double bogey. If the sprained wrist that forced him to withdraw after one round in the Quad Cities last week (and the Rockford, Ill., Pro-Am on Monday) was feeling better, his scorecard hasn't illustrated it yet.

Bobby Gates is listed in the published field of next week's Sanderson Farms Championship.

He called it quits from the John Deere Classic after his opening round due to a sprained wrist, and was then replaced in the Rockford (Ill.) Pro-Am this coming Monday.

Bobby Gates withdrew from the John Deere Classic after his opening round due to a sprained wrist.

Adam Nicholas, a representative of the Rockford (Ill.) Pro-Am, tweeted the detail. Gates was scheduled to compete in the annual event a couple of hours from the Quad Cities this coming Monday. He posted a 5-over-par 36-40=76 at TPC Deere Run before calling it a week. He converted on only one of 11 birdie chances, that a conversion from 10'9" at the par-3 16th hole. He'd swallow three bogeys and a triple as well. This drops him to 2-for-16 on the season.

Bobby Gates has been added to the published field of this week's AT&T National.

Gates was the fifth alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He secured his tee time at Congressional on a sponsor exemption. He's just 2-for-13 on the year, but sits 166th in FedExCup points thanks to a T4 in New Orleans. He shared 42nd place at last year's AT&T National.

Bobby Gates enters the FedEx St. Jude Classic in the midst of a mild slump.

Since a T4 in New Orleans, Gates has missed two cuts and recorded a T76 at Colonial. Unfortunately for him, his record in Memphis isn't much better. He missed the cut at TPC Southwind last year after finishing 82nd in 2011.

Bobby Gates has been added to the published field of this week's Wells Fargo Championship.

Gates shared fourth place at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans to earn a top-10 exemption into the field at Quail Hollow where he's 1-for-2 with a T6 in 2011. His lone payday among eight starts this season vaulted him to 141st in FedExCup points.

Bobby Gates turned in a 6-under-par 33-33=66 in the final round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans to snare his first top 10 of the season at 15-under 273.

The Q School grad entered the week having failed to secure a cut all season, breaking through in grand fashion at TPC Louisiana. In the final round, he circled seven birdies and swallowed his lone bogey at the par-3 third hole early in the morning. His success in New Orleans bumps him up from being an alternate in the field at the Wells Fargo Championship to safely inside the ropes.

Bobby Gates chased his opening 67 at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans with a 2-under-par 34-36=70 to reach the midpoint in 7-under 137, five strokes adrift of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

After Thursday's short-game display, he likely welcomed an ordinary round of sorts today. He hit 13 greens in regulation and erased two bogeys and four birdies. His most notable par breaker was a 14-yard hole-out from in front of the green at the par-3 17th hole. Barring a withdrawal or disqualification, Gates will record his first payday in eight starts on the PGA TOUR this season.

Bobby Gates submitted a 5-under-par 32-35=67 for his opening round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Gates started the season 0-for-7 and resides in the bottom of the graduate reshuffle, so today's effort comes out of nowhere. He was aided by consecutive greenside pitch-ins at holes 3 and 4, but he made them count. He added four more birdies, including a conventional version from 13'3" at the ninth hole. He also poured in a par save from 12'1". Gates was the last of 10 golfers to sign for a 67 and the final of 15 to finish inside top the 10 on the first-round leaderboard.

Bobby Gates has been added to the published field of this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Gates was the fourth alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He earned his tee time at TPC Louisiana this week as the last sponsor exemption. While he's 2-for-2 on the Web.com Tour this season, he's failed to cash in seven starts on the PGA TOUR. The 27-year-old tied for 24th at last year's Zurich so don't immediately wager against him in head-to-head formats.

Bobby Gates is looking for his season’s first paycheck at the Valero Texas Open.

This will be his fourth start at this event, and third at TPC San Antonio, and he’s only missed one cut. His best week was a T15 in 2011 at the current venue. Something needs to click for the Texan, as he’s missed each of his six cuts this season.
