Shaun Micheel vaulted inside the top 15 with a 5-under-par 32-34=66 during the second round of the John Deere Classic, reaching 7-under 135 on the week.
The 47-year-old is making his 13th appearance at TPC Deere Run, arriving with a pair of top 5s on his JDC resume, but everything else outside the top 30. Micheel found his putting stroke today, rolling in three putts from outside 10 feet, including a 23-foot birdie bomb at the par-3 16th. It hasn't been all putting, though, as the Indiana Hoosier ranks inside the top 10 in driving accuracy this week, as well as greens hit. This goes in the books as his first cut made since the 2015 Barbasol Championship, with four missed cuts in between. Sat, Aug 13, 2016 01:04:00 PM

Shaun Micheel puts on his Stableford shoes ahead of this week's Barracuda Championship.

The PGA TOUR veteran finished T6 at this event in 2007, going in the books as his only top 25 in nine tries. His last top 25 on TOUR came at the 2011 Memorial. Micheel is just 2-for-3 on the season and should not be relied upon this week at the Barracuda Championship.

Shaun Micheel has joined the field of 156 at this week's FedEx St. Jude Classic.

He was the seventh alternate at the start of the week, and then gained entry when D.A. Points withdrew. Micheel's first of 382 PGA TOUR starts was at TPC Southwind in 1989. That also happened to be the first year that the course hosted this tournament. Roughly 15 months ago, he underwent a procedure to remedy near-entire blockage of his right coronary artery, so that he's able to continue his life as a touring professional is a blessing. Unfortunately, the results haven't been there, but he'll be welcome in Memphis where he last pegged it in 2013.

Shaun Micheel has been added to the published field of this week's Puerto Rico Open.

Micheel was the fourth alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. Three others withdrew to open the door for him to make his first start of the season. He has Past Champion status and hasn't cashed in his last 10 starts on the PGA TOUR dating back to 2012. But that he's playing at all is a gift. He's a year removed from having surgery to remove blockage in his right coronary artery. All three of his paydays since were on the Tour.

Shaun Micheel is scheduled to compete in this week's WNB Golf Classic on the Tour.

Two months ago, Micheel learned that he had blockage of 99 percent of his right coronary artery. After having a procedure to alleviate the problem, he traveled to South American and finished T52 at the Chile Classic. Out since, he alerted followers on Twitter on April 17 that he was back in the hospital for more treatment: "Finally out of the OR. Doc fixed the RCA and Circumflex along w/2 more arteries. Hoping it holds...tired of hospitals!" On Wednesday, he learned that he gained entry into the Texas stop on the secondary circuit. At the time he tweeted the following, he was first alternate: "Heart surgery on Thursday and getting on an airplane right now for Dallas. Medical technology is amazing."

Shaun Micheel signed for a 2-over-par 38-36=74 following his opening round of the Chile Classic on the Tour.

It's not quite what he wanted on the card, but there's some value in the nothing-to-see-here element of posting a score just a couple of weeks after having a procedure to address a block coronary artery. He bracketed four bogeys with two birdies at Prince of Wales Country Club in Santiago and sits 10 strokes adrift of the overnight tri-leaders.

Shaun Micheel has been added to the published field of this week's Chile Classic on the Tour.

We noted his statement on the PGA TOUR's SiriusXM station last week that he was planning on making the trip despite his doctor's hesitation. However, he didn't appear in the field when it was released on Friday afternoon. One reason for the confusion is that he knew in advance that he'd be granted entry (via a conduit that we cannot confirm right now) and it wasn't until Monday that the official process caught up with it. Either way, this is a relatively aggressive choice given he had a procedure on his heart on Feb. 20. He's endured his fair share of physical setbacks over the years, but nothing quite like this.

Shaun Micheel is not listed in the published field of next week's Chile Classic on the PGA TOUR.

Perhaps his doctor talked him out of making the transcontinental trip, or maybe it was a family member. Hopefully he didn't suffer a setback. Whatever the case, he exerted some hesitation and doubt when speaking on the PGA TOUR's SiriusXM station earlier this week about traveling a little more than a week following having a procedure to deal with nearly complete blockage in his right coronary artery.

Shaun Micheel is planning on competing in next week's Chile Classic on the Tour.

It was just six days ago that the 2003 PGA champion had a procedure on his heart due to 99-percent blockage of the right coronary artery. He has Past Champion status on the PGA TOUR and not among even the top 85 alternates at this week's Honda Classic. His trip to South America isn't without concern, and it has Micheel pining for when he sat out nine months after surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder in June 2008. "My doctors [are] not really wild about me going that far," he said on the TOUR's Sirius XM station today. "At this point, I’m taking some medication right now. I just don’t know. They’re a lot of unknowns. ... There are no free rides out there. I’m not exempt and there are a lot of things to consider for my future and how I progress with this medicine. ... Hopefully I’ll feel well enough to play, and hopefully I can play well because I’ve been working hard on my game. This news carries a little bit more anxiety than just a shoulder problem."

Shaun Micheel alerted his followers on Twitter in recent days that he underwent a procedure to treat a blockage in his heart.

In a series of tweets beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 21, Micheel wrote, in part, "(Tuesday): Got some scary news late today, but have a great team of doctors in place. Ready to get this procedure done and back out on the course soon! ... (Wednesday): Hospital at 6 am. Thx for all of the calls, texts and tweets! Sure wish it was a shoulder or knee issue. Will know more tomorrow afternoon! ... (Friday): Multi vessel heart blockage... [Right] coronary artery blocked 99%. Heart created another vessel that bypassed the other. Very lucky. Bypass may still be necessary but going to try another method of treatment first. Hope that works. Thanks for all of your support! Finally made it back home. It's been a tough day but I appreciate everyone's well wishes." He has Past Champion status on the PGA TOUR and hasn't cashed in his last nine starts. He went an aggregate 0-for-12 on three tours in 2013.

Shaun Micheel signed for a pair of 6-over-par 37-39=76s following his first two rounds of the 95th PGA Championship and will miss the cut.

Not a surprise among avid golf fans, but nonetheless depressing. It underscores just how long it's been since he emerged at Oak Hill 10 years ago. For the record, Micheel wiped away four birdies with 12 bogeys and two doubles. He's missed nine consecutive cuts on the PGA TOUR, five of which this season.

Shaun Micheel hoisted the Wanamaker Trophy at the 2003 PGA Championship and returns to Oak Hill Country Club this year.

This is the first time the PGA Championship has returned to Oak Hill since his triumph, and that it remains his only win in 379 career PGA TOUR starts speaks for itself. Micheel has made five starts on the Tour and four on the PGA TOUR in 2013, failing to secure a paycheck in any of them. This tournament seems to occasionally produce surprise winners at a greater rate than any other major, but he could take the cake as the biggest shocker when you consider his full body of work.

Shaun Micheel has been added to the published field of this week's John Deere Classic.

Micheel was the recipient of one of the two sponsor exemptions that became available due to early withdrawals that allowed Scott McCarron and Jordan Spieth to gain entry on merit. Micheel missed the cut in his only previous start this season (St. Jude). He's also 0-for-5 on the Tour where he withdrew from his last start in early June due to an unspecified injury.

Shaun Micheel will sleep in his own bed for this week's FedEx St. Jude Classic.

The Memphis resident also lists TPC Southwind among his bevy of home courses, so expect him to know the lay of the land as well as anyone. It's little surprise that he's played in every edition of this event since 2000. In 19 total starts, his best finish is a T4 in 2010.

Shaun Micheel has been added to the published field of this week's John Deere Classic.

Micheel was the second alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry when two golfers were removed this morning. He has a pair of top fives in seven appearances at TPC Deere Run (2000, 2010), but he hasn't posted a top 30 among six paydays in eight starts this season.
