Blake Adams withdrew from the Valspar Championship following his opening round due to a hip injury.
Uh-oh. It hasn't been specified which hip is troubling him, but he had major surgery performed on his left hip about 13-and-a-half months ago. He shot a 7-over-par 38-40=78 today. The short week means that he's down to 16 starts on his Major Medical Extension to earn $497,044 or 277.9 FedExCup points and retain status. Mar 13 - 1:46 PM

At 4-under-par 67-70-71-72=280, Blake Adams tied for 29th place at the Northern Trust Open.

He had our attention through the cut, but hit only eight greens in regulation in each of the final two rounds. Nevertheless, this is his best finish since The McGladrey Classic in October of 2012. With today's $42,600.83 and 39.5 FedExCup points applied, he now has 17 starts remaining on his Major Medical Extension to earn $497,044 or 277.9 FedExCup points and retain status. Despite this week's fade, he belongs on rosters in deeper full-season formats.
Feb 16 - 7:31 PM

Blake Adams turned in a 1-under-par 34-36=70 in his second round of the Northern Trust Open to post 5-under 137 at the midpoint, one stroke adrift of the early 36-hole clubhouse lead.

He opened with an eagle putt that dropped in from 15'8" at the par-5 first hole, and then just tried to keep water in the bucket the rest of the way. Adams found only half of his fairways and greens in regulation overall and traded two birdies with three bogeys on his final 17 holes. His other notable conversions included a birdie roll from 16'1" at the fifth hole and a par save from 12'11" at 12.
Feb 14 - 2:43 PM

Blake Adams opened the Northern Trust Open with a 4-under-par 34-33=67, finishing one stroke off the clubhouse lead.

Adams went out in the second threesome off the par-4 10th hole today and walked off the ninth leading the field with eight birdies and a strokes gained-putting split north of 3.900. His par breakers included conversions from 27'11", 18'2" and 34'11" at the 15th, second and fourth holes, respectively. He found 13 greens in regulation but got up and down just once for par, and that was as the result of a 23'2" par attempt that disappeared at the par-4 13th. He entered the week having cashed in four of six events, but he's scored under par in every second round. Don't rule out another red number tomorrow since he'll be going out with the morning wave.
Feb 13 - 7:24 PM

Blake Adams stumbled in the finale of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am after which he signed for a 6-over-par 41-37=78 to finish in a tie for 45th place at 1-over 288.

Adams was paired with Phil Mickelson in the antepenultimate group off the first tee today. An opening double bogey at the par-4 first hole set the unfortunate tone during which he'd add five bogeys and another double to negate three birdies. The aggregate impact resulted in a freefall of 40 spots on the leaderboard. He still logged $18,498.85 and 23.00 FedExCup points, but he could have made a significant dent into not only his Major Medical Extension but the FedExCup standings as well. Instead, he has 18 starts remaining to earn $539,645 or 317.4 FedExCup points and retain status. Look for him to attempt to rebound at this week's Northern Trust Open.
Feb 9 - 9:00 PM

Blake Adams battled the wind for an even-par 37-35=72 on Pebble Beach Golf Links in the third round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Adams picked up an early birdie on the par-5 second, but swallowed a double bogey on the par-3 seventh when the wind was at the worst. He didn't find another par until the par-4 15th, trading four birdies for three bogeys over that seven-hole span. He managed 12 GIR and picked up just over a stroke on the field with the flat stick. He reached the 54-hole mark at 5-under 210.
Feb 8 - 7:58 PM

Blake Adams completed the first two rounds of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in 3-under-par 69-69=136 and sits four strokes off the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

Adams opened with a bogey-free loop of Spyglass Hill during which he went 7-for-7 in scrambling. Today's walk around the Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club yielded 13 greens in regulation, four birdies and two bogeys. With 19 starts on his Major Medical Extension, he has what essentially amounts to a full season, but he'll enter the weekend with a tremendous opportunity to make a big dent into it as well as position himself for a run into the FedExCup Playoffs. Look for him on the host course in the third round.
Feb 7 - 7:50 PM

Blake Adams came to rest at 2-over-par 75-69-72-74=290 at the Farmers Insurance Open, good for a T55 in his fifth start of the season.

Adams survived the cut on the number and banked $13,847.00 and 14.5 FedExCup points. It's his third payday and matches his previous best (McGladrey). He now has 19 starts on his Major Medical Extension to earn $558,144 or 340.4 FedExCup points and retain status.
Jan 26 - 10:45 PM

Blake Adams spun a bogey-free, 2-under-par 34-36=70 in his final round of the Humana Challenge to finish with a share of 69th place at 12-under 276.

There's nothing like this tournament. Adams hit 16 greens in regulation but found only two birdie-4s today and still 15 spots on the leaderboard. That's what happens when the scoring average for the 84 in the field is 68.655. Adams banked $11,172.00 and 1.10 FedExCup points for the effort. He'll head to the Farmers Insurance Open with 20 starts remaining on his Major Medical Extension to earn $571,991 or 354.90 FedExCup points. Torrey Pines was the site of his last start before he stepped away for over eight months to have surgery on his left hip.
Jan 19 - 9:42 PM

Blake Adams reached the midpoint of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba in even-par 73-69=142 and will miss the cut.

It's likely that the late-early draw got the better of the weather this week. Unfortunately for Adams, he was in the other half. He hit 28 greens in regulation but still incurred eight bogeys to cancel out the same number of birdies. This leaves him with 21 starts on his Major Medical Extension to earn $583,163 or 356 FedExCup points and retain status.

After opening The McGladrey Classic with a 3-over-par 73, Blake Adams shared 55th place.

He made the cut on the number thanks to a 2-over 68 in the second round during which he birdied three of his last six holes. Adams went on to play even-par 73-67=140 on the weekend. He banked $12,320.00 and 13 FedExCup points. He'll now head to the OHL Classic at Mayakoba with 22 starts remaining on his Major Medical Extension to earn $583,163 or 356 FedExCup points and retain status. Today's payday was his first since last year's McGladrey. He went an aggregate 0-for-4 on both sides of hip surgery.

Blake Adams signed for a 3-over-par 34-39=73 following his opening round of The McGladrey Classic.

Grinding back into TOUR shape isn't easy and he's the latest example. Back in action since having to withdraw from the Shriners before the tournament with a problem related to his left hip, Adams hit 13 greens in regulation at Seaside but negotiated just two birdies, and one of them needed to fall from 17'3" at the second hole. He whiffed on four tries inside 10 feet and amassed five bogeys.

Blake Adams is listed in the published field of next week's McGladrey Classic.

Since withdrawing from the Shriners the day before the opening round, and actually since his last blog entry on Oct. 7 to alert readers that he was going to play the Frys.com Open, Adams hasn't provided an update on his health. We knew that he was "85 percent" for the Frys.com, so the missed cut (80-70) was not a surprise. Continue to allow him to use the fall events as opportunities to shed the rust and sharpen his competitive focus. No need to invest in any format just yet.

Blake Adams has been removed from the published field of this week's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

The PGA TOUR's Media page added that Adams' hip is the root of the WD. Of course, he had surgery on his left hip on Jan. 29. In his first start since, he missed the cut at last week's Frys.com Open. While he has 23 starts on his Major Medical Extension, the urgency isn't to return, it's to heal. And remember that he admitted to being "85 percent" ready prior to the 2013-14 lid-lifter.

Blake Adams rebounded from his opening 80 at the Frys.com Open with a 1-under-par 34-36=70 but he will not survive the 36-hole cut.

Baby steps. He split 11 (of 14) fairways and hit 12 greens in regulation en route to four birdies against three bogeys today. Adams will take whatever confidence he picked up to Las Vegas for next week's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. For the record, he now has 23 starts on his Major Medical Extension to earn $595,483 and retain status.
