Tom Pernice, Jr. has been added to the published field of this week's Reno-Tahoe Open.

Pernice, Jr. was one of three alternates that filled holes when four golfers pulled out midday. He cracked the field on merit in Mississippi two weeks ago, but withdrew early. He's also scheduled to tee it up in the Champions Tour's 3M Championship. Given he hasn't played in a PGA TOUR event all year, it would be an upset if he doesn't remain committed to the 50-and-over circuit again this week.

Tom Pernice, Jr. has been removed from the published field of this week's Sanderson Farms Championship.

It's just as well. After playing out his status in 2012, he hasn't competed on the PGA TOUR since. Pernice, Jr. will turn 54 on Sept. 5. NOTE: Ted Schulz and Jay Don Blake also withdrew as alternates.

Tom Pernice Jr. has split his time between the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour in 2012, and needs a big week at The McGladrey Classic this week if he hopes to have full status on the PGA TOUR in 2013.

It’s not out of the realm of possibilities, as Pernice Jr. tied for third in the Children’s Miracle Network Classic in 2011 to sneak inside the top 125 in the last event of the season. While he has six top 25s in nine starts on the Champions Tour, he has only made seven of 21 cuts on the PGA TOUR with a lone top 25 coming in the form of a T8 at the Reno-Tahoe Open. He did not tee it up on the Seaside Course in 2011, but tied for 15th in 2010.

Tom Pernice Jr. added 6 points to his total in the final round of the Reno-Tahoe Open to sneak out of town with 30 points and a top 10.

Pernice Jr. circled an eagle and three birdes to five bogeys, taking full advantage of the Modified Stableford scoring system. While he split 12 (of 14) fairways, he found just seven GIR. Fortunately for him, he putted to a 1.429 average on the strength of 25 putts.

The second round of the Travelers Championship has been suspended for the remainder of the day.

The second weather delay started at 3:19 p.m. ET, so tournament officials waited over three hours before making the decision to call it. The restart is scheduled for 7:00 a.m. on Saturday. Tom Pernice, Jr. opened with a 4-over-par 74 on Thursday but answered with a 4-under 66 to post even-par 140. He's currently on the positive side of the cut line and looking to end an 0-for-8 skid on the PGA TOUR, but by no means is he safe. The entire afternoon wave of 77 golfers has yet to complete 36 holes. In fact, only six have finished as many as 27. Twelve haven't logged one full hole in their second rounds. The weather forecast includes a chance for early-morning rain and thunderstorms as well as another risk later on Saturday.

Tom Pernice, Jr. has been removed from the published field of this week's FedEx St. Jude Classic.

Pernice, Jr. will tee it up at the Regions Tradition on the Champions Tour instead. He failed in his bid to qualify for the U.S. Open at the sectional outside Chicago on Monday. TPJ is fully exempt on the PGA TOUR, but he's cashed in just three of 13 starts, and has missed the cut in his last eight. NOTE: Alternates J.P. Hayes and Mark Hensby have also withdrawn from the St. Jude.

Tom Pernice, Jr. has been removed from the published field of this week's HP Byron Nelson Championship.

No loss here, except perhaps to duffer leaguers. TPJ has missed eight consecutive cuts and hasn't broken 70 in 13 rounds.

Tom Pernice Jr. has alternated starts between the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour, and this week he will give TPC Sawgrass his best shot at THE PLAYERS.

While his two Champions Tour starts have resulted in a T3 and a T13, he's only three (of 12) on the main stage with his best finish a T43 at the Farmers. He's missed his last seven cuts, including the Wells Fargo last week. His 174th total driving stat will have to improve drasitcally if he's to have a shot at hoisting the trophy this week.

Tom Pernice, Jr. has been added to the published field of this week's Transitions Championship.

TPJ was a late entry. He's been busy on the PGA TOUR this year but has cashed in just three of seven starts and hasn't cracked a top 40. This will be his first appearance at Innisbrook since 2009. He's survived five of six cuts and posted two top 10s at the event.

Tom Pernice, Jr. opened The Honda Classic with a 3-under-par 33-34=67 to claim very early possession of the clubhouse lead.

The 52-year-old is fully exempt via the top 125 on last year's money list, and he's going to compete as often as he can on the PGA TOUR. This is already his seventh appearance of the year; he's yet to crack a top 40, however. At PGA National today, he buried six birdies including at both par 3s on The Bear Trap, pouring in a 10'6" roll at the 15th and converting a 14-yarder from the fringe at 17. He closed out his round with his last birdie, that one from 10'6".

Tom Pernice, Jr. was added to the published field of this week's Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.

TPJ started the week as the fourth alternate, but gained entry when Tom Gillis withdrew. Pernice, Jr. is currently 143rd in earnings in just 11 starts. He's also 30th on the Champions Tour money list in 15 events. This will be his 16th start at Disney World and his 15th consecutive.

Tom Pernice Jr. was added on Monday morning into the field of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Pernice Jr. started the week as the first alternate into this week's field. He is also listed in the field of the Champions Tour's SAS Championship, so a withdrawl from the Las Vegas field would not be a surprise.

Tom Pernice Jr. signed for a final round of 5-under-par 67 and finished in a tie for second place at the Viking Classic.

Pernice birdied the par-4 third hole and then put consecutive birdies on the card starting at the sixth hole to take a stroke lead on the field. The lead turned out to be short-lived and at the turn he was a stroke off the pace. On the back nine, birdies at the 10th and 13th hole once again gave him the lead, however a three-putt bogey at the par-4 14th hole dropped him into a share of the lead. He remand in a share of the lead until Chris Kirk converted a four-foot birdie at the par-4 17th hole to break the tie. The tie for second place is the first top 10 finish for Pernice on the PGA TOUR this season and it is his best finish on the TOUR since his second place at the 2006 St. Jude Classic.
Sun, Jul 17, 2011 05:39:00 PM

Tom Pernice, Jr. is 11-under-par 66-67=133 at the midpoint of the Viking Classic, one back of the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

The 51-year-old has conditional status on the PGA TOUR for finishing 139th on the money list last year, but this is just his fifth start on the circuit this season as he's opted for a regular schedule on the Champions Tour (where he's made 12). He was bogey-free today with five birdies including conversions of 17'9", 30'10" and 22'2" at the seventh, ninth and 14th holes, respectively, but he also needed par saves of 11'9" and five yards from the fringe at the eighth and 16th holes, respectively, to keep his card clean.
