Gary Christian has not competed anywhere since missing the cut at the Sanderson Farms Championship in July.
The Englishman had tipped that he wanted to return to competition by late March, but it will be at least another two weeks before he could resume PGA TOUR-sanctioned action since the Tour is dark next week. Christian has been out since having surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. Whenever he returns, he'll have three starts on a Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $520,151 or 317 FedExCup points and a promotion to the Major Medical category. Mar 28 - 7:00 PM

Gary Christian was given three starts on a Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $520,151 or 317 FedExCup points and a promotion to the Major Medical category.

Consider this a little year-ending housecleaning. The Brit is out probably until late March due to the freak injury he suffered that led to surgery to repair a torn ACL.

In an update at published on Aug. 28, Gary Christian said that he's likely out of action until April due to the injury he suffered in Canada a month ago.

Christian stumbled while out for a walk the week of the RBC Canadian Open. He'd wind up having surgery on Aug. 14 to repair a torn ACL. Since he started 2013 on conditional status, he's expected to receive a Non-exempt Medical Extension for 2013-14. That level of status might otherwise help him sneak into one or two events on the West Coast Swing, but his leg won't be healed by then. So, he's eyeing the Valero Texas Open on March 27-30 since it's one of the first, if not the first, 156-man field of the 2014 portion of the schedule. "Recovery is going to be slow," he said. "It’s a little difficult to gather my thoughts and work out what it will take to have a chance to reach the top level again."

Gary Christian went to Twitter again today to alert his followers that the diagnosis on his injury isn't a good one.

Christian wrote: "Got the diagnosis I didn't want - torn ACL and MCL possible meniscus tear. Year off to heal after surgery. What a great story this could be." The humorous tag line may prove to be prescient, but the news is disappointing now. He didn't specify when he'd have surgery, but whenever he returns, he may be equipped with a start or two on a Non-exempt Medical Extension since he was playing 2013 on conditional status.

Gary Christian withdrew as an alternate from this week's RBC Canadian Open.

When this morning's pair of withdrawals were released, the Brit was mysteriously absent as first alternate. Sure enough, he alerted his followers on Twitter as to why, writing: "Freak accident during after dinner walk - dislocated knee. Knew I should have watched the Bachelorette." For a photo of the brace around his leg, click on the link below. Christian is 3-for-10 on conditional status this season and ranks 205th in FedExCup points. He's also 125th on the Tour in only three starts, so he's likely headed back to Q School in pursuit of a Tour card for 2014.

Gary Christian will tee it up at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

Playing with conditional status, Christian has struggled in his five starts with just one made cut. That came in the form of a T63 at the HP Byron Nelson Championship in his most recent PGA TOUR start. In his only trip to TPC Southwind, he tied for 63rd last season.

Gary Christian has been added to the published field of this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Christian was the eighth alternate at the start of the week. He gained entry when Fredrik Jacobson withdrew today. Christian has been limited to three starts on the PGA TOUR this season due to conditional status. He's yet to survive a cut, and he missed the cut in his debut at TPC Louisiana last year.

Gary Christian will make his second trip to the Valero Texas Open this week.

One of many guys playing with conditional status this week, Christian missed the cut in his 2012 trip to TPC San Antonio. He’s only earned two starts this season after making north of $600k last season, but he’s failed to cash a check. Dropping down to the Tour two weeks ago for the first time this season, he tied for 10th at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open. Perhaps that will serve as the boost he’s needed.

Gary Christian settled for a 3-over-par 37-38=75 at Pebble Beach in his opening round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Today marked his first relevant action since withdrawing during the fourth round of the final stage of Q School with a rib injury, but he has conditional status on the PGA TOUR for the 2013 season. That was just over two months ago. The Brit failed to shed the rust at this week's host course, failing to convert on any of his 12 birdie chances. He missed all three of his attempts inside nine feet. He'll try to improve in his second round at Monterey Peninsula Country Club's Shore Course on Friday.

Gary Christian is listed in the field of next week's AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Christian has conditional status on the PGA TOUR but his number hasn't risen high enough to crack any of the four fields dating back to the Sony Open. We last saw him at Q School where he withdrew during the fourth round of the final stage with a rib injury. Given the compressed 2013 season, golfers on conditional status have little fantasy value until mid- to late April.

Gary Christian withdrew during his fourth round of the final stage of Q School due to a rib injury.

The Brit was 1-under through 10 holes at PGA West's Nicklaus Tournament Course on Saturday and 3-under through 64 holes when he called it quits. He settles for conditional status on the PGA TOUR in 2013 for finishing 130th in earnings this year.

Gary Christian began 2012 as a 40-year-old rookie and enters the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic 127th on the money list.

It’s rare that it takes someone 40 years to sniff the PGA TOUR for the first time and for things to go as well as they have for the Englishman. He heads to Disney having cashed in 11 of his last 13 events, highlighted by a T10 at the RBC Canadian Open. At eighth in driving accuracy and 36th in GIR, the flat stick has been the main thing holding him back. He ranks 113th in strokes gained-putting.

Gary Christian followed his opening 66 at The Barclays with an even-par 35-36=71 in his second round to reach the midpoint in 5-under 137, three strokes off the pace of the overnight co-leaders.

The Englishman hit 13 greens in regulation today but required 31 putts. He offset four bogeys with four birdies, including conversions from 35'10" and 23'11" at the 17th and third holes, respectively. He was the fourth and final golfer to post 137, which is just inside the top 10 entering the weekend.

Gary Christian turned in a 5-under-par 31-35=66 for his opening round of The Barclays, finishing two strokes adrift of the clubhouse lead.

The PGA TOUR rookie has been playing with some gusto of late, posting top 25s in five of his last seven starts. He entered the FedExCup Playoffs ranked 111st in points. At Bethpage today, he split 12 (of 14) fairways, hit 15 greens and rattled home six birdies, the longest of which 16'4" at the sixth hole. He also poured in a par save from 11'11" at 10. Trying to save a bogey-free scorecard, Christian bogeyed the par-4 18th -- his last of the day -- when he failed to get up and down from 87 yards after finding the rough right of the fairway off the tee.

Gary Christian tacked on 12 points in his third round of the Reno-Tahoe Open to improve to 28 for the week.

Christian circled four birdies and an eagle to just one bogey in his tour of Montreux Golf & Country Club. He split 11 (of 14) fairways, landed 15 GIR, but needed 29 putts to a 1.80 average. The Englishman has been trending well, capturing top-20 finishes in each of his last three events.
