Gary Christian arrived at the halfway point of the Wyndham Championship in even-par 69-71=140, missing the cut by two strokes.
Christian burned the last start on his Non-exempt Medical Extension at Sedgefield, which meant that he was chasing only a spot in the FedExCup Playoffs or one of the secondary objectives. Instead, he'll have the weekend off. He buried four birdies in each round, but leveled out with three bogeys in each and a double-bogey 6 at the first hole today. For the record, he fell short of meeting the terms of his medical by $520,151 or 317 FedExCup points. As a two-time winner on the Web.com Tour, the Brit has some status on that circuit, but it's unclear as to where he'll play in 2015. He picked up a side gig as a radio host this year and played in only four tournaments across both tours, so perhaps the 43-year-old is ready to close this chapter of his life. Aug 15 - 7:58 PM

Date:

Gary Christian is scheduled to compete in this week's Wyndham Championship.

With one start remaining on his Non-exempt Medical Extension that won't carryover into 2014-15, it makes sense that the Englishman would burn it before losing status. He missed the cut in his two previous starts this season and also went 0-for-1 on the Web.com Tour. For the record, he's $520,151 or 317 FedExCup points short of fulfilling the terms of the medical, but since the Wyndham concludes the regular season, that angle is moot. Christian's only goals are to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs or Web.com Tour Finals. Even the latter is a long shot given the absence of form and a regular schedule.

At 4-over-par 70-74=144, Gary Christian will miss the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

He went 0-for-8 in birdie chances in his second round, which he completed this morning. This is his second MC in as many starts this season and it leaves him with just one start on his Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $521,151 or 317 FedExCup points and a promotion to the Major Medical category. To secure conditional status as a backup, he'd need to collect at least 226 FedExCup points. For a tournament awarding the usual allotment of FedExCup points, that would require no worse than a two-way T2.

Gary Christian has been added to the published field of this week's FedEx St. Jude Classic.

Christian started the week as the eighth alternate, but gained entry when Matt Kuchar withdrew today. The Englishman has two starts remaining on his Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $521,151 or 317 FedExCup points and a promotion to the Major Medical category. He's 1-for-2 at TPC Southwind with a T49 in his debut in 2013. He's missed the cut in one appearance on both the PGA TOUR and Web.com Tour this season.

Gary Christian carded a pair of 2-over-par 72s at the HP Byron Nelson Championship and missed the cut by three strokes.

The Brit went just 2-for-18 in birdie looks and squared six bogeys at TPC Four Seasons-Las Colinas. He simply cannot afford another week like this as today's shortfall leaves him with just two starts on his Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $521,151 or 317 FedExCup points and a promotion to the Major Medical category. Since he didn't qualify for next week's Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, he'll look for a spark at the Rex Hospital Open on the Web.com Tour.

Gary Christian settled for a 5-over-par 38-39=77 in his opening round of the South Georgia Classic on the Web.com Tour.

Christian's lid-lifter was suspended for darkness on Thursday due to a weather delay earlier in the day. He hit only six greens in regulation and did not record a par breaker while squaring five bogeys. Of course, the good news is that he's back inside the ropes. Whenever he returns to the PGA TOUR, he'll have three starts on a Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $521,151 or 317 FedExCup points and a promotion to the Major Medical category.
May 2 - 3:27 PM

Gary Christian is listed in the published field of this week's South Georgia Classic on the Web.com Tour.

Christian has not played anywhere since missing the cut at the Sanderson Farms Championship last July. He then tore the ACL in his right knee and had surgery to repair it. As a result, the Brit has three starts on a Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $520,151 or 317 FedExCup points and a promotion to the Major Medical category. He's allowed five rehab starts before he can return to the PGA TOUR.

Gary Christian has not competed anywhere since missing the cut at the Sanderson Farms Championship in July.

The Englishman had tipped that he wanted to return to competition by late March, but it will be at least another two weeks before he could resume PGA TOUR-sanctioned action since the Web.com Tour is dark next week. Christian has been out since having surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. Whenever he returns, he'll have three starts on a Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $520,151 or 317 FedExCup points and a promotion to the Major Medical category.

Gary Christian was given three starts on a Non-exempt Medical Extension to earn $520,151 or 317 FedExCup points and a promotion to the Major Medical category.

Consider this a little year-ending housecleaning. The Brit is out probably until late March due to the freak injury he suffered that led to surgery to repair a torn ACL.

In an update at Golfweek.com published on Aug. 28, Gary Christian said that he's likely out of action until April due to the injury he suffered in Canada a month ago.

Christian stumbled while out for a walk the week of the RBC Canadian Open. He'd wind up having surgery on Aug. 14 to repair a torn ACL. Since he started 2013 on conditional status, he's expected to receive a Non-exempt Medical Extension for 2013-14. That level of status might otherwise help him sneak into one or two events on the West Coast Swing, but his leg won't be healed by then. So, he's eyeing the Valero Texas Open on March 27-30 since it's one of the first, if not the first, 156-man field of the 2014 portion of the schedule. "Recovery is going to be slow," he said. "It’s a little difficult to gather my thoughts and work out what it will take to have a chance to reach the top level again."

Gary Christian went to Twitter again today to alert his followers that the diagnosis on his injury isn't a good one.

Christian wrote: "Got the diagnosis I didn't want - torn ACL and MCL possible meniscus tear. Year off to heal after surgery. What a great story this could be." The humorous tag line may prove to be prescient, but the news is disappointing now. He didn't specify when he'd have surgery, but whenever he returns, he may be equipped with a start or two on a Non-exempt Medical Extension since he was playing 2013 on conditional status.

Gary Christian withdrew as an alternate from this week's RBC Canadian Open.

When this morning's pair of withdrawals were released, the Brit was mysteriously absent as first alternate. Sure enough, he alerted his followers on Twitter as to why, writing: "Freak accident during after dinner walk - dislocated knee. Knew I should have watched the Bachelorette." For a photo of the brace around his leg, click on the link below. Christian is 3-for-10 on conditional status this season and ranks 205th in FedExCup points. He's also 125th on the Web.com Tour in only three starts, so he's likely headed back to Q School in pursuit of a Web.com Tour card for 2014.

Gary Christian will tee it up at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

Playing with conditional status, Christian has struggled in his five starts with just one made cut. That came in the form of a T63 at the HP Byron Nelson Championship in his most recent PGA TOUR start. In his only trip to TPC Southwind, he tied for 63rd last season.

Gary Christian has been added to the published field of this week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Christian was the eighth alternate at the start of the week. He gained entry when Fredrik Jacobson withdrew today. Christian has been limited to three starts on the PGA TOUR this season due to conditional status. He's yet to survive a cut, and he missed the cut in his debut at TPC Louisiana last year.

Gary Christian will make his second trip to the Valero Texas Open this week.

One of many guys playing with conditional status this week, Christian missed the cut in his 2012 trip to TPC San Antonio. He’s only earned two starts this season after making north of $600k last season, but he’s failed to cash a check. Dropping down to the Web.com Tour two weeks ago for the first time this season, he tied for 10th at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open. Perhaps that will serve as the boost he’s needed.
