Alan Dunbar, winner of the 2012 Amateur Championship, announced today that he has turned professional.
The native of Northern Ireland signed with International Sports Management, otherwise known as Chubby Chandler's firm. Dunbar is scheduled to compete in this week's Challenge Tour stop in Spain before he turns 23 years of age on April 30. After another minor league start in Italy, he'll make his pro debut on the European Tour at the Nordea Masters on May 30-June 2. Because he's joining the play-for-pay ranks, he's forfeiting the U.S. Open exemption he earned for winning the British Am. Alan Dunbar of Northern Ireland defeated Austria's Matthias Schwab 1 up in the final of the 117th Amateur Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club in Ayrshire, Scotland.

Dunbar earned a bye in the first round of match play for finishing the 36-hole stroke-play qualifier in 144. He opened the round of 64 in match play with a 1-up victory. Then proceeded to record wins of 7 and 6, 2 up, 3 and 2, and 3 and 2 to reach the 36-hole finale. Today's victory exempt Dunbar into next month's British Open as well as the 2013 Masters.
