Andrew Georgiou spun a 7-under-par 31-33=64 at Heron Point Golf Links in Alberton, Ont., good for co-medalist honors in today's open qualifier for the RBC Canadian Open.
The South African converted an eagle and seven birdies to help offset two bogeys. He missed the cut in his only other PGA TOUR start at the 2012 Open Championship. He's also the only survivor of today's four-spotter that isn't a Canuck. Peter Laws signed for a 7-under 33-31=64 after eight birdies and a bogey. He'll be making his PGA TOUR debut this week. Jesse Smith took third place with a 6-under 34-31=65 thanks to seven birdies against one bogey. In his only previous TOUR start, he missed the cut at the U.S. Open at Merion last month. The final berth went to amateur Eric Banks, who birdied the third playoff hole to secure his first start on the PGA TOUR. He circled six birdies to erase on bogey en route to a 5-under 34-32=66 before outlasting Americans Wes Homan (bogey-free 32-34=66; 5 birdies) and Jake Scott (32-34=66; 7 birdies, 1 double bogey). The field at Glen Abbey is now complete at 156. Mon, Jul 22, 2013 05:35:00 PM
