Fred Funk settled for a 1-under-par 34-36=70 in the final round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba to share ninth place at 11-under 273.
This marks Funk's first top 25 on the PGA TOUR since tying for 10th in the 2008 Sony Open. It could have been much better, as his four birdies at El Camaleón GC were offset by just one miscue. The problem was, that blemish was a triple bogey at the par-4 12th hole. At the ripe old age of 58, one has to wonder how many more top 10s the veteran can expect to make on the PGA TOUR. He plays primarily on the Champions Tour. Nov 16 - 4:50 PM

Fred Funk navigated El Camaleón Golf Club in the third round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba without a blemish on his card in a 2-under-par 34-35=69

Funk picked off a pair of birdies on the two par 5s on the front nine and tacked on 16 pars. He found the fairway on each of his 14 tee shots on the par 4s and par 5s, but his lack of length only allowed him to land 10 GIR. Despite that, he was a perfect eight-for-eight in scrambling. Should he hold on for a top 10 on Sunday it would prove to be a nice story and also ensure him a spot in the field at the Sony Open. His 10-under 203 is inside the top 10.

Fred Funk turned back the clock and spun a bogey-free, 6-under-par 32-33=65 in today's second round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

The 58-year-old, eight-time PGA TOUR winner won the inaugural edition of this tournament at the age of 50 in 2007, so he knows what it takes to get around El Camaleón Golf Club. Funk split 11 (of 14) fairways and hit 12 greens in regulation today. On top of saving par six times, he converted an eagle and four birdies. The eagle dropped in at the par-5 13th hole; he birdied both par 5s on the front. This is his lowest aggregate on the PGA TOUR since a third-round 65 at the 2008 Travelers Championship. At 8-under 134, Funk is positioned only four strokes off the 36-hole clubhouse lead in México.

Fred Funk won the inaugural OHL Classic at Mayakoba and returns to El Camaleón Golf Club this week.

Funk has made three of his previous five cuts in this event, with his T49 in 2012 serving as his second-best finish. Known for being both short off the tee and accurate, this course is one of the few that would still offer him a chance to contend. It measures a mere 6,987 yards and plays to a par of 71. He focuses the vast majority of his attention on the Champions Tour.

Fred Funk has been removed from the published field of this week's Greenbrier Classic.

The recently turned 58-year-old hasn't played the PGA TOUR since the Valero Texas Open where he placed T69. His probable, last concerted attempt at success on the circuit hasn't gone anywhere near as hoped. While he's fully exempt via a career earnings exemption, he's just 3-for-8 with no better than a T65 in Puerto Rico. However, he's currently 12th in earnings on the Champions Tour. NOTE: Fabian Gomez also withdrew as an alternate.

Fred Funk opened the Insperity Invitational with a 4-under-par 34-34=68 and sits two strokes off the overnight lead.

Funk withdrew from last week's Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the Wednesday night prior to the tournament. He cited a knee injury. Today at The Woodlands (Tex.) Country Club, he hit 14 greens and rolled in five birdies to erase a lone bogey. He's 3-for-8 on the PGA TOUR this season, but has finished no better than T65 in Puerto Rico. We'll continue to see him appear as he's exhausting a career earning exemption.

Fred Funk is listed in the published field of this week's Insperity Invitational on the Champions Tour.

The 54-hole event is slated to begin on Friday, May 2. Funk was a Wednesday scratch from the PGA TOUR stop in New Orleans last week. He's burning a career earnings exemption on the circuit, so he'll have our attention all season, but he has virtually zero fantasy value in any format.

Fred Funk withdrew from the Zurich Classic of New Orleans due to a knee injury.

The oft-banged-up senior is 3-for-8 on the PGA TOUR this season and hasn't finished better than T65 (Puerto Rico). Each of his five starts on the Champions Tour has yielded a top 15, however, so limit him to formats that include the 50-and-over circuit.

Fred Funk is set to tee it up in the Valero Texas Open this week.

Funk is playing on a career earnings exemption this season, and he's made just two cuts in seven starts. One of those came in his last appearance at the Puerto Rico Open, when he posted a season-best T65. Accurate drivers have done well at TPC San Antonio in the past, so that would be the silver lining. This is his first appearance in this event since 2006, and first-ever at this venue.

Fred Funk shot a 2-over-par 35-37=72 in his opening round of the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Just some housecleaning here as Funk has virtually zero fantasy value. We still don't know why he withdrew from the OHL Classic at Mayakoba before his second round. Today at Waialae, he split a vintage 12 (of 14) fairways but found only 11 greens in regulation. The miscues led to three bogeys and a double against only three birdies.

Fred Funk is listed in the published field of next week's Sony Open in Hawaii.

We last saw the Champions Tour member at Mayakoba in mid-November where he mysteriously withdrew before his second round. Now fully exempt once again on the PGA TOUR via a career earnings exemption, he'll be making his 21st appearance at Waialae. The most recent of his four top 10s at the Sony is a T10 in 2008.

Fred Funk withdrew from the OHL Classic at Mayakoba prior to his second round.

The 57-year-old first-ever champion of this tournament (in 2007) opened with a 4-over-par 40-35=75. Funk started his round bogey-bogey-double bogey before running the table with pars. He was 0-for-9 in par-breaker opportunities. He was scheduled to go off the 10th tee at 4:40 p.m. CT for the second round. If an explanation is released, we will relay it to you. We'll also add him to our Injury Report since he's fully exempt on the PGA TOUR via a career earnings exemption.

In a PGA TOUR Hangouts on Oct. 9, Fred Funk revealed that he's prepared to tackle a busy schedule beginning with this week's Frys.com Open.

"It depends how I’m doing, but right now I’m probably going to play 10 to 12 on the [PGA] TOUR and probably about 20 on the Champions Tour," he said. "So, it’s a big, big schedule. I’ll be playing a lot, so I’m hoping my body will hold out." He added that he'll play The McGladrey Classic and the OHL Classic at Mayakoba to conclude the fall portion of the 2013-14 schedule. He started the season with a missed cut at CordeValle. After opening with a 4-over-par 75 that featured only one birdie -- on the first hole he played -- he responded with a 70 despite racking up 14 greens in regulation. Although we'll see a fair amount of him competing alongside the younger boys, because he went 0-for-1 on the PGA TOUR in 2013, his only potential value remains deep in salary formats.

Fred Funk signed for a 4-over-par 36-39=75 following his opening round of the Frys.com Open.

No matter what happens for the remainder of the season, no one can take away the fact that he birdied his first hole of the 2013-14 season at 57 years of age. However, he played the remaining 17 holes in birdie-free 5-over with five bogeys. Funk made only one start on the 2013 PGA TOUR, but he's exhausting his career earnings exemption for sitting inside the top 50 all-time at 38th. It's unlikely that he'll play often, using the circuit more to stay fresh for the Champions Tour.

Fred Funk posted a 3-under-par 36-33=69 in his opening round of the 3M Championship on the Champions Tour.

Funk is four strokes back of the overnight quad-leaders in this 54-hole event. Since we last relayed news on the 56-year-old, Rotoworld has learned that he no longer has a Major Medical Extension in play on the PGA TOUR. This is due to his choice to stick with a regular schedule on the 50-and-over circuit.
