Tommy Biershenk’s rookie season hasn’t gone as he would hope, but he has a chance to remedy that at this week’s Frys.com Open.
Biershenk has seen the weekend in just nine of 23 tournaments, with his T46 at last week’s Justin Timberlake his season-best finish. The irons have been his demise, ranking 180th in GIR. Should he find his swing with the scoring clubs, his 49th ranking in Strokes Gained-Putting may allow him to circle some birdies at CordeValle Golf Club. Either way, he ranks 204th on the money list and has a very tall mountain to climb if he hopes to end the season inside the top 125, or more realistically the top 150. Wed, Oct 10, 2012 09:50:00 PM

Tommy Biershenk posted a 3-over-par 36-37=73 in his opening round of the RBC Canadian Open.

If his back that forced him out of last week's True South with nine holes to play was feeling better today, his scorecard doesn't reflect it. He split 10 (of 14) fairways but hit only 10 greens in regulation and swallowed five bogeys and a double.

Tommy Biershenk withdrew at the turn during his final round of the True South Classic.

The rookie had just eagled the par-5 18th hole before calling it quits. He was 2-over-par in the finale and even par for the tournament at the time. If he's able, he'll give it a go at this week's RBC Canadian Open. UPDATE: Biershenk alerted his followers on Twitter that his back was the cause of his WD, writing in response to a query: "My back is giving me a fit!"

The second round of the True South Classic was suspended for darkness.

Sixty-three golfers were stranded tonight, including rookie Tommy Biershenk who is one of six to finish a field-low four holes in their second round. (He's 1-under-par through 22.) Three golfers in the early-late draw have completed at least 30. Play is scheduled to resume at 7:30 a.m. CT.

Tommy Biershenk answered his opening, 5-under-par 66 at the John Deere Classic with another in his second round, reaching the midpoint in 10-under 132, three strokes off the 36-hole clubhouse lead.

It was a bit of an odd round for the rookie, who went out in 4-under 32 despite just one par. He birdied six of his first eight holes, including a round-long 24'10" at the 11th. After the turn, he went birdie-birdie-bogey before parring all the way in. At the time he signed his card, he led the field in both putting (1.423) and birdies (16). Overall, he's hit 26 greens and taken just 51 swipes of the flat stick on them.

Tomy Biershenk carded a 5-under-par 33-33=66 in his opening round of the John Deere Classic.

The rookie arrived at TPC Deere Run having missed his last six cuts, but he may have found an elixir in the Quad Cities. Biershenk hit only 12 greens but he rattled home eight birdies to finish five strokes off the clubhouse lead. This included respective conversions from 11 feet and 14'5" at the sixth and 16th holes. He also swallowed three bogeys but required only 24 putts.

Tommy Biershenk completed the final U.S. Open sectional qualifier in Memphis, Tenn. in 9-under-par 67-66=133, good for medalist honors.

The PGA TOUR rookie has endured a rough go of it this year, but he had little trouble with Germantown Country Club, circling 11 birdies against just two bogeys to earn one of nine berths at stake into the major. A quintet of runners-up posted 8-under 134: Joe Ogilvie (68-66), Stephen Ames (65-69), Joe Durant (67-67), Aaron Watkins (68-66) and amateur Hunter Hamrick (67-67). Bill Lunde (7-under 68-67=135) and Hunter Haas (65-70=135) shared seventh place. The final exemption was secured by PGA TOUR rookie Roberto Castro (6-under 69-67=136), who parred the fourth playoff hole, outlasting Kyle Thompson (70-66) and amateur Bobby Wyatt (70-66). Tommy Biershenk posted the lowest score of the first group out in the final round of the Valero Texas Open when he signed for a 4-over-par 40-36=76.

Biershenk, Harrison Frazar and Garth Mulroy were a combined 15-over-par in the final round. Biershenk finished the week at 6-over-par 294 in what was his sixth cut made in 11 attempts. He had a nice week on the greens, with a 1.667 putting average, but had a hard time finding the greens, only landing 36 (of 72) GIR. He is in the published field for the upcoming Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

Tommy Biershenk has been added to the published field of this week's Shell Houston Open.

The PGA TOUR rookie was the first alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry due to three withdrawals this morning. He's cashed in half of his eight starts this year but hasn't bettered his season-opening T59 at Waialae.

PGA TOUR rookie Tommy Biershenk fired a third round score of even-par 37-35=72 at the Puerto Rico Open.

Biershenk birdied two of his last three holes in the second round to make the cut on the number and break a streak of four consecutive missed cuts. His 54-hole total of 1-over 77-68-72=217 likely will not give him a chance to contend on Sunday. His 71.4 percent driving accuracy leaves him in the middle of the pack in fairways hit, but his GIR of 63 percent and total putting of 1.853 puts him well down the pack in those critical categories.
