Michael Allen turned in a 1-over-par 71 for his opening round of the U.S. Open.
At 53 years of age, Allen is the oldest golfer in the field of 156. He's a member at Olympic Club and received a home-course roll at the par-4, 419-yard 14th hole where he jarred his approach for eagle. He then cozied his tee ball at the par-3 15th for an easy birdie to go 1-under on his round at the time. Overall, he split six (of 14) fairways and hit 10 greens, finishing five strokes back of the clubhouse lead. Thu, Jun 14, 2012 07:02:00 PM

Olympic Club member Michael Allen should have a leg up on the field at the 2012 U.S. Open from a local knowledge standpoint, but battles long odds in search of his first PGA TOUR win.

Ironic for Allen, he's won three times in 46 starts on the Champions Tour, but is still looking for that elusive PGA TOUR victory in his 369th start. Of his two starts on this year's PGA TOUR, he managed a T9 at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. Should he pull off the unlikely, he would become the oldest person to win a major championship, surpassing Julius Boros who won at the age of 48.

Michael Allen will compete in this week's Honda Classic.

Allen tied for ninth place at the Mayakoba Golf Classic to earn a berth into the Honda via the top-10 exemption. He no longer has status on the PGA TOUR but the Champions Tour is dark until March 16-18.

Michael Allen has been added to the published field of this week's Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Allen started the week as the seventh alternate. He gained entry when Neal Lancaster withdrew. The 53-year-old Allen migrated full-time to the Champions Tour in 2011. He opened this year's schedule on the senior circuit with a pair of T3s. He finished T56 at last year's Mayakoba.

Michael Allen reached the midpoint of the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic in 9-under-par 69-66=135 and sits three strokes adrift of the clubhouse co-leaders.

The 52-year-old is making just his fifth start on the PGA TOUR this year. He's had conditional status but has opted for a full schedule on the Champions Tour. With two weeks off until the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, Allen remained committed to Disney, and it's been a terrific decision thus far. At Palm today, he hit 17 greens and converted seven birdies including at each of the four par 5s.

After getting bumped to first alternate at the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic when Scott McCarron gained entry for his top 10 last week, Michael Allen snuck back in the field when Josh Teater withdrew.

Allen has conditional status on the PGA TOUR this year, but opted for a full schedule on the Champions Tour where he's made 18 starts and sits 11th on the money list. The next event for the 50-and-older circuit isn't until the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship on Nov. 3-6.

Michael Allen was removed from the published field of this week's Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

And no, he's not opting for a start in the Champions Tour's SAS Championship. It's just a regular week off for the 52-year-old who ranks 12th on the money list on the senior circuit. He's a mere 2-for-4 on the PGA TOUR with no top 50s this year. Whatever residual fantasy value he had entering this week is likely gone for good.

Michael Allen was added to the published field of this week's Travelers Championship.

Allen was the second alternate when the field was released on Friday, and gained entry when Pat Perez withdrew. The 52-year-old has opted for a regular schedule on the Champions Tour where he's posted six top 10s in nine starts. He's withdrawn twice from PGA TOUR commitments this year in favor of the senior circuit, but withdrew from this week's Dick's Sporting Goods Open in favor of what will be his fourth start on the PGA TOUR this season. Allen has teed it up in 13 editions of the Travelers, including the last seven.

Michael Allen is listed in the published field of this week's Charles Schwab Cup Championship on the Champions Tour.

This is the circuit's season finale, and features just 30 golfers. Allen hasn't played since withdrawing after his opening round of the Timberlake on Oct. 21. Subsequently, he also withdrew from last week's AT&T Championship on the Champions Tour. We still don't know what's kept him from teeing it up.

Michael Allen withdrew from the Champions Tour's AT&T Championship on Tuesday.

Allen shot a 76 in his opening round of last week's Timberlake Open, and then called it quits. He slipped just one spot to 124th on the PGA TOUR money list as a result. No word yet as to what sidelined him last week, or if it's related to this week's WD.

Michael Allen is listed in the published field of next week's AT&T Championship on the Champions Tour.

We still don't know why Allen withdrew following his opening 76 in Las Vegas this week. He entered the week 123rd on the PGA TOUR money list, so he'll be fortunate to remain inside the top 125 at the conclusion of the Timberlake. We'll keep an eye on his progress next week.
