Mathew Goggin arrives at this week's Hotel Fitness Championship in search of a PGA TOUR card.
Goggin finished the 2015 Tour season ranked 34th on the money list, so he will need to deliver over the next four weeks in order to gain PGA TOUR status. His victory to kick off the season at the Panama Claro Championship was nice, but the Aussie went just 7-for-19 after the win. Ranking 121st in all-around ranking, Goggin should be considered a long shot to contend. Wed, Sep 9, 2015 07:52:00 PM

Mathew Goggin captured the Panama Claro Championship with his bogey-free 3-under-par 33-34=67, topping Harold Varner III by four strokes at 11-under 269.

Goggin is proving to be quite the course horse at Panama Golf Club. He was also the winner there back in 2011. While this was just the first Tour event of the year, it sets him up to make a serious run at a PGA TOUR card for 2015-16. With only 21 regular season events and 25 cards handed out before the Finals, the odds are certainly in his favor in terms of making it back to the big stage.

Mathew Goggin turned in a 6-under-par 36-30=66 at Yocha-De-He Golf Club at Cache Creek in Brooks, California, in today's open qualifier for the Open, good for share of medalist honors and a berth into the tournament proper.

The first four-spotter of the season will be hard-pressed to be outdone the rest of the way. Not only did the Tasmanian converted three eagles in a seven-hole stretch on his inward nine (including a 2 at the eighth hole), he had to survive an 8-for-4 playoff to secure his first PGA TOUR start since the 2013 U.S. Open. Goggin also circled three birdies to offset one bogey and a double. Fellow Aussie Jarrod Lyle spun a bogey-free, 6-under 31-35=66 that featured an eagle-3 and four birdies. This will mark his first appearance on TOUR since defeating leukemia a second time. Eric Axley carded a 6-under 32|34=66 with eight birdies against a double bogey. The lefty sits near the bottom of the reshuffle, but he's shown enough flashes all year to suggest that he's ready to contend. Non-member T.J. Vogel secured the final spot at Silverado with a 6-under 31-35=66 (7 birdies, 1 bogey). The 23-year-old turned pro just 15 months ago. The field at the Open is now complete at 144.

Mathew Goggin crafted a 2-under-par 34-35=69 in the third round of the Cleveland Open, holding on to a share of the lead at 11-under 202.

Goggin was bogey-free, with four birdies through 16 holes, until a double bogey jumped up and bit him at the par-4 17th. After landing 17 GIR in the second round, he found just nine in the third despite missing just three fairways. The putter has been the key to his week, ranking second in putting average for the week at 1.625. The Aussie will try and lock down the fifth Tour title of his career in the final round.

Mathew Goggin torched Lakewood Country Club for a bogey-free 9-under-par 31-31=62 in the second round of the Cleveland Open to join Jeff Curl in the 36-hole lead.

Goggin was on fire, circling birdies on half the holes. He birdied each of the three par 5s in the process. His irons were working, as he missed just one GIR. The putter wasn't bad either, rolling the rock to 1.471 average. He leads the tournament in GIR and ranks fourth in putting average. His 13 birdies also lead the field.

Mathew Goggin followed an opening 2-under-par 68 with a 4-over 74 in the second round of the U.S. Open and trails the lead by three strokes at 2-over 142.

Goggin was 4-over on his front nine at Merion, but then gathered himself to play the final nine in even par. His only birdie of the day came at the par-4 16th and was followed by his third bogey on the very next hole. The Tour regular has plenty to play for the next few days.

Mathew Goggin turned in a 2-under-par 68 for his opening round of the 113th U.S. Open.

The Tasmanian was in the antepenultimate threesome off the 11th tee on Thursday, so he wrapped his lid-lifter just a few minutes ago. He split seven (of 14) fairways, hit 12 greens in regulation and took 28 putts en route to four birdies and two bogeys. When all of the golfers post a score, Goggin will share second place with Luke Donald, one stroke off Phil Mickelson's lead.

Mathew Goggin earned a spot in the field at the U.S. Open by way of the Rockville, Maryland qualifier.

Goggin is playing the Tour this season and has made eight of 10 cuts including a runner-up at the Panama Claro Championship to start the year. The veteran of 276 PGA TOUR events nearly had a major breakthrough in the 2009 Open Championship, eventually finishing in a tie for fifth. This is his third U.S. Open, with a T36 at Oakmont his best.

Mathew Goggin will carry a two-stroke lead over Bobby Gates, Roland Thatcher and Kevin Foley into the final round of the Panama Claro Championship after a third-round 4-under-par 34-32=66.

Goggin has fired all three of his rounds in the 60s this week, reaching the 54-hole mark at 7-under 203. His round started innocently enough, with one birdie and nine pars on his first 10 holes. He heated up and rattled off four consecutive birdies beginning with the 11th hole, but immediately gave two back with bogeys on 15 and 16. A final birdie on the 18th has him searching for his second win in three years at this event. He did not defend his title in 2012 because he had graduated from the Tour onto the PGA TOUR. In his 2011 win, he scored in the 60s in each of his four rounds.

Mathew Goggin signed for a bogey-free 2-under-par 34-34=68 in the third round of The McGladrey Classic and enters the finale at 9-under 201.

Goggin began the week a distant 178th on the PGA TOUR money list, but has responded with a solid 54 holes on Sea Island's Seaside Course. He circled his first birdie of the round on the par-4 eighth hole and followed with his second, and final, birdie on the par-5 15th. He will try and capture his first top 10 of the season in Sunday's final round.

Mathew Goggin sits at 7-under-par 67-66=133 at the midpoint of The McGladrey Classic, three strokes off the overnight lead.

The Tasmanian is gunning for a third straight top 25 in the Fall Series, but he'll need to do better than that to think about securing his PGA TOUR card for 2013. He arrived at Sea Island ranked 178th on the money list. However, he's in terrific position to do something about it on the weekend. Through 36 holes, he's hit 30 greens and taken just 58 putts. Today's bogey-free loop included four of his nine birdies, all of which ranging greater than 11 feet. Both of his highlights were of the zero-putt variety. First, he pitched in from the greenside rough 27 yards out at the par-4 first hole. Then, to add some symmetry to his round, he chipped in from 18 yards in front of the green at the par-4 18th.

Mathew Goggin enters the Open having signed for his best finish of the season at last week's stop in Las Vegas.

Goggin posted a T13 at the Justin Timberlake in what was his seventh payday in 20 starts. Goggin has two runner-up finishes in 273 TOUR starts and won twice on the Tour in 2011, making his struggles this season a little curious. He is 40th in GIR, but 155th in Strokes Gained-Putting.

Mathew Goggin spun a bogey-free, 6-under-par 35-31=66 in his opening round of the True South Classic, finishing two strokes off the clubhouse lead.

The opening round restarted at 8:30 a.m. CT today. Goggin finished with a flourish, scoring 5-under on his last seven holes. The run included a 41'4" eagle conversion at the par-5 fifth hole sandwiched by birdies of 14'8" and 11'11" at Nos. 3 and 6, respectively. The Tasmanian entered the week 5-for-15 with no top 30s on the PGA TOUR this season.

Mathew Goggin signed for a 1-over-par 35-36=71 following his opening round of The Greenbrier Classic.

Out since calling it quits during the first weather delay of the second round at the Travelers Championship two weeks ago due to reasons unknown -- he wasn't going to make the cut anyway had he returned to finish -- he hit 15 greens at The Old White TPC today but needed 33 putts. He managed only two birdies which were promptly erased by a bogey and one double. It's been an exceptionally disappointing year for the veteran after a superb comeback campaign on the Tour in 2011.

Mathew Goggin is listed in the published field of next week's Greenbrier Classic.

Goggin withdrew during the first weather delay in the second round of last week's Travelers, but an explanation was not released for his decision. It was merely the latest setback in a poor season. He's 5-for-13 with no top 30s. In his only previous start at Greenbrier, he tied for 45th place in the inaugural edition in 2010.
